I think you could add a boss fish ( like big fin ) on each fishing spot that would appear after catching all the tipes of fish of that area and would have a harder mini game. They would give a lot of money and a unique hat.

I think the arrow system is the way to go but I like @Bruno F's idea of both too. I was also thinking if it was possible to connect the storyline with fishing somehow or/and have a collection of the fish we catch and maybe keep some of them (like the rare ones) for some character who wants to collect rare fish and buys from you or something.
A concept that might work is, the bait is on the water instead and you wait until a fish is holding on the bait, the rarer the fish the more inputs you need to do
The fishing minigame progress looks good. If you're looking for more inspiration you should check out the fishing minigame in Link's Awakening. The mechanics and presentation you're going for seem similar to that one with the difference being your choice of keeping the fish identity hidden until you reel it in.
You should make location specific fish and for example lava areas have the skull fish and maybe even the fire dragon or catch big fin around the big fin area or maybe catching the catches that there are only one of like big fin the village is that town could give a quest to catch big fin idk
The tension line control might block the visual indication when you are touching the screen. While the arrow controls add more challenge to the catch that's just my assessment of the different catching methods.

This looks super cool O.O Even though it’s probably gonna be added you should place a score board on one of the top corners of the screen to show how many points you get. (Ex: A common fish gives you 1 point, an uncommon fish gives you 3 points, a rare fish gives you 5 points, and so on.) Also maybe try to make very similar types of fish (shape wise) as if each fish were to look different you would automatically know which fish it is and would make it less suspenseful.
There should be more variable terrain for each fishing spot, like, a shallow lake for one, but a deep trench for another. And maybe a more murky water where a lot of fish are obstructed by seaweed. This idea is already a really great concept though.
Good morning. I downloaded the game today and I really like the fishing mini-game. To improve it, there should be fish in exclusive areas; also add various baits (like using a smaller fish to catch a shark); there should be an encyclopedia (like a pokedex) that gives information about the fish; and something that would make it even more interesting is to have the possibility of having from a small fish tank to an aquarium (a shop where they sell those items would be very good) to deposit the rare fish that we don't want to sell and that we could keep so they can be seen in our house (or McMeow's barracks, since the Neko House is Alex's).
I love this idea!! I'll be a little sad that it seems like the secret levels will be replaced with minigames, but thinking about it, I think it's a beautiful evolution and nice call back to the original minigames from the first SCT. I personally really favor the having to tap left or right to catch the fish since it provides a little bit of difficulty, but it's not so easy that it's boring. Suggestion: I wonder if you can catch a few bells at the bottom of these ponds to act sort of like a tutorial to the minigame but also encourage players to try out this new mechanic!! And it still keeps the consistency of the other levels It's such a great design overall and I'm confident I'll love this minigame regardless of how it ends up!!

this minigame sure looks interesting. you know what would be cool? an encyclopedia containing fish youve caught, and fish you still havent caught. maybe world-variant fish for different worlds? they would look like the biome they are in. also, fish that you have to catch at a specific time of the day, like some midnight fish that are very rare to find, ore fish that enjoy the morning sun so you have to wake up at like 7am-8am. or maybe the speed of reeling could depend of the cat youre using. for example, that floofy boi we saw ion the trailer driving the van, he could maybe reel slower but the hook would go faster up and down, so that it would be easier to catch a specific fish. or maybe rigs would reel it in faster but the hook would stay in one place a lot, so its easier to aim at the fish. each cat would have a special ability that would help. also, maybe you could spill some food that attracts fish so you could have a better chance of getting it. i know that when youre fishing that helps with getting fish to come over, cuz i like fishing with my family when were at our summer cabin. hope that this gave you some ideas, and that i didnt waste your time giving you an essay to read.
Oh I just had a cool idea what if there was like a museum when you go to the rock zone, if there even is one, but you can put bugs possibly fish and all the collectibles you can get in the game, they would all pop up In the museum and there'd be a description on when and where you got, I just thought that would be a cool idea. I think maybe send a fish icon, a minigame icon so that in other worlds you can just reuse the icon and have different minigames per world and also the players don't know what the minigame is about, so they have more hype about the minigame, but this is just my idea.

I think if you add more mini games it would be a timed egg you are carrying a timed egg if you make it in the end you’ll get 20 coins if didn’t make it you get 5 coins and there will obstacles if you get hit the egg explodes and you’ll start again the timer time is 4 minutes
