    Nice video and great fire tips. I completely agree that backpacking gives you life lessons. You’re presented with this huge task, but through perseverance and hard work eventually you knock out those miles or climb that mountain. And yeah, it’s hard and it’s be work, but the growth and satisfaction at the end are well worth it.

    Love the nature in this video ! It’d be cool to see one where you show everything you take in your pack for a hike too

    Really enjoying your videos Jonny. I can't figure out how you're filming yourself when you're all alone out there, Camera on a tripod I guess?

      Thanks Al! Yep, I use a tripod and a drone when I hike. And there is a lot of hiking in between to get those shots of me walking away from the camera lol

    okay i really loved this video! the snot and bark lessons *mind blown* i dont know how i never thought about either of those things! 8:17 really made me laugh out loud, 6:36 scared me 😂 the scene at 5:26 had me leaning in staring and nodding my head with the drum track XD do you know what the name of that song is? I've been wanting to go backpacking for a really long time but i never have because i'm scared to go alone and no one else i know actually wants to go but these videos are really tempting me to try going alone

    • @TheBackpackingBiologist
      @TheBackpackingBiologist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      haha I don't know the name of the song anymore, I'm sure I have it somewhere, but it was royalty free music that I just nabbed. You should give backpacking a try, start small and comfortable, maybe just car camping solo, then move up to backpacking. That's what I did

    Another great video! I am just still a bit unclear on what a dead standing tree is? 🤔 if you could clarify 😂

    • @TheBackpackingBiologist
      @TheBackpackingBiologist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you comrade. So we want to use dead wood to make fires, but the problem is most of the wood on the forest floor is soaking wet (especially when there's snow). We need to find dead standing trees, which are trees that have died but haven't fallen over, they're still standing in place. Those trees will be dry all the way through, and it doesn't matter if the bark has snow because the inner core will still be dry. Hope that explains it!
