Dude! You're killin' me! Today's a fasting day...and I was ALREADY starving! And now Johnny does a video on SLIDERS (my favorite! St. Louis boy here!) OMG.
Grew up in NY where White Castle was nearby. 2 dbl cheese burgers, large fry and a diet coke after a night of bar hopping hit the spot. So far, no one on YT has been able to copycat the recipe. They used raw patties. Meat was steamed. Appreciate the cook.
I make White Castle / Krystal burgers and they taste identical to the original ones IMHO. I make them like Johnny does, but I redistribute some of the raw beef along the outside perimeter as necessary and pull the wax paper up over the top to straighten the outside edges creating 12 perfectly square patties . Hopefully, that makes sense. In other words, I don’t have the raggedy edges on the outside. My frozen patties look almost identical to what the restaurants use. I cook them on an electric griddle and I cover the buns and the meat with a big aluminum pan like people for turkeys on Thanksgiving, but I don’t throw it away afterwards. Seven minutes on the grill covered works perfectly. I don’t flip the meat. I do it just like in the restaurant. Finally, I use Wonder bread dinner rolls. I’d be surprised if the restaurants weren’t getting their buns from the same place.
I had White Castle once. Many years ago. Not sure if it's a good thing. But at 50yrs ago I was probably 30ish. 😅 MS has unfortunately taken the memory of what they tasted like. So I'll have to try these for sure. Never rehydrated onions. But I'll definitely give it a try. Good Vid Brother. Like I Expect Anything Less. Hope you and yours are getting ready for the season. Be Blessed. 🍻 Shawn
Thanks for the breakdown on how to DYI these. Anyone else notice Whitey's always tastes better after 1:00AM? ALWAYS! (until the next morning) Thanks Johnny.
Definitely on my to-do list. I had my Blackstone 36" griddle professionally assembled today so now I'm ready to season her up and start grilling! Thanks again, Johnny! I think the Philly cheesesteaks will be my first attempt at the griddle this weekend. Wish me luck!
You were smart to pay someone to assemble your griddle. I helped a friend to assemble his Blackstone recently and the quality of the pre-tapped bolt holes was awful. Getting bolts into some of the holes was extremely difficult and one of them ended up stripped out and completely unusable.
Johnny, my 7 year old grandson loves those frozen White Castle burgers we buy. Now I can be his king of the castle and serve up fresh for him. Thanks!!!🤭
A man after my own heart. SLIDERS-YUM. Being born and having spent 60 years in Indiana. White Castle was iconic. Now for the past 6 years, living in northern Wisconsin, NO WHITE CASTLE here. I TRULY MISS THEM. We can get frozen ones at the store. But just not the same. My wife is like your family. She doesn’t appreciate them. I don’t understand? But I will give your recipe a try for sure. Indiana/Ohio, White Castle, Midwest is best. Thanks buddy.
Since I live 2 hours away from the nearest White Castle these are definitely on my to do list. On a side note a couple of years ago I was at a fishing lodge in Alaska for a week. One night at dinner we were set at a table with an older gentleman, his son and granddaughter. One of the guides asked them what business they were in. Turns out it was the family that owns White Castle. I felt like I was in the presence of royalty.
That sounds like a great day for me. Well if it was in the 90s when the reds were good lol. Hopefully Tito turns it around this year and all the arms stay healthy.
In Florida, we have Krystal Burgers. But grocery stores sell the frozen boxed White Castle ones! I like the idea of dehydrated onions on them. I add those when heating up canned green beans (like my mom did!). ❤
Nice idea. Thanks for showing the wrong and right way to do these guys!!! I wonder how the dehydrated onions would taste when rehydrated in a cooking beer???! Stay hydrated my friend 🍺

sorry brother lol, hopefully you can get some when you're done fasting!
I'm still on the disabled list but once off this is high on my list! Great video Johnny. Thank you!

You will NOT be disappointed!

Lol so true, it's definitely not as good during the day.

That sounds like a great first cook! I'm sure it will be delicious.

Those sliders are a favorite of mine. I like your use of dehydrated onion. So smart👍😊

Awesome! I hope he likes them just as much. Thanks for always watching Greg.

Oh ya it's definitely a Midwest delicacy!😁😁

No crap that is awesome!
I loved White Castle , but I love toasted buns more. Combo between the two is awesome.
Great observation!
He got the best of both words.
Ya a combo is always good idea.
We used to get White Castle's after Red's games by the bag full when I was a kid! I need to try this. Good job Bud!👍

I never thought about adding them to can canned green beans that's a fantastic idea, thanks for sharing.
Good job Johnny! Definitely an awesome burger to make, you definitely nailed it both ways. Cheers 🍻
I enjoy watching your videos, and I agree " you have to keep hydrated 🍺"
Nice idea. Thanks for showing the wrong and right way to do these guys!!!

Good call... rehydrate onions with beer = WIN!
That sounds like an experiment I need to run!
@@JohnnyBrunet you'd be just the guy to do that experiment!! 🍺
@@bionicdan1959 Know what you're good at and never do it for free right!
Never had White Castle! Will have to try it anyway!
I see a new video I hit like
Thank you!
Howdy Johnny, MMMM Sliders....right up until the pickle was added. Have A Day! ;~)
Excellent!
Ive tried a few to make WC sliders. Ok but something missing... gonna try the dehydrated onions! Thanks Johnny
You're welcome, hopefully the dehyrdrated onions were what's missing!
I'd expect these to be your TOP 101, but what version?
Just joking, even if you screw up, you get to eat the "happy accidents".
White Castle is great ! Sadly, none in East TN...... "slide in, slide out...." 😅
