Now I want to see a documentary about how polluted the Mississippi River is and the chemicals found in American catfish. I wish pollution can be reduced in any river.

Catfish are almost entirely farm raised in the USA, the Mississippi River is much less polluted.

all i see in Canadian grocery stores is basa tolupia and the other 5 names they give this fish to throw us off. farmed in Vietnam and some loop hole allows them to bring it here and sell it to people from grocery stores.

Just gotta eat only salt water fish, we have good salmon , cod , red snapper here, or anything that is of North American or European origin. 9 years later and I still found basa in the super market yesterday here in Ontario.

I am not allergic to fish but I ordered fish in a 5 star hotel in India and they served me basa. 5 hours later i threw up like i never did in life. I was close to death and it was just coz of my strong immune system that I was saved. Six months later exactly the same sequence reoccured to me in a different hotel that served me this cheap fish for an expensive price. I bet you have one fillet of basa and you would feel like puking after a couple of hours

Trust me people.....this was a very real event and cost me now over $3,500 and two days in the hospital and I have never been allergic to fish. It is real that the contaiminated water of Vietnam and the fish that come from it caused this to happen to me.

this is an old story told by people that want to protect their own business, In November 2000, a delegation of about 20 visitors, including professors from the Auburn University (Alabama) and catfish raising and processing companies went on a fact-finding tour in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam.
They made detailed surveys of the actual conditions of feeding and farming, for fish both in floating cages and inland ponds. They also visited various processing plants. At the conclusion of the tour, they praised the farming technology and equipment applied for fish breeding, feeding and farming; and found no grounds to lodge complaint about food safety and hygiene conditions throughout the processing cycle. At that time, if the Pangasius processing industry in Vietnam had problems, the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) would have banned the import of our Pangasius products, but this was obviously not the case

According to the video 85 million pounds of these fish are imported and eaten by Americans every year. I don't remember reading any stories of anybody being poisoned of dying from eating these fish. I do remember however reading stories of illnesses and recalls due to salmonella in US farms and produce. And Americans dying from ecoli picked up at US fast food places with American beef. So what's the agenda behind this video?

If you look at USA section of supermarket in the European Union, what products are even allowed there have EU compliant labels which show as USA doesn't label genetically modified ingredients they're more likely to contain them. Reese's Pieces contain GM and colourings which cause hyperactivity in children

      please, your information is wrong!!
Sushi only eat fish from DEEP SEA (like Tuna) it all natural, not fish farm
Btw, i'm Vietnamese. This is fails news!! I'm mad cause of stupid news leading people's mistake information
This is MEKONG DELTA (please check out about Mekong Delta, it was start from Nepal, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, then Vietnam) then the river will flowing to the sea!! It's like open-river
Cause of the landcape (i don't know how to write it in English) so the river look red. But it like open-river, very big river, it will lead all the dirty to the sea. And we do clean the river as well.
Vietnamese food products import to Japan, US, Europe country we're have many TEST until it approved safe!! You think we just take it in the bags then fly to others country to sales?
products have been test, test, test to avoid toxic!! Japanese is one of hardest country when it come to import foods after test certified
If you think this is dirty and toxic, pork is more worse!!
But i argee, always eat great-shishi from certified grades restaurant no matter what. But for the cooking shrimp & fish, it not problems.

Most of the farms are situated near inlet streams that feed into the Mekong. That water is runoff from the Himalayas. Irregardless of that, the Mekong is not even in the top 20 most polluted rivers, whereas the Mississippi is frequently ranked in the top 5.

I sufferred a severe anaphylactic shock and had to be transported by ambulance and spent two days in the hospital. Not sure how many others have suffered this reaction but I have never been allergic to fish. The hospital attributed my near death experience to the fish tacos. There is a lawsuit pending now but I guarantee that this was contaminated fish and CAUSED A NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE.

They showed you the worst images of homes on the river and never even showed you a farm right next to the homes of businesses. They are jealous because they have lost more than 20% of their business to more tasty competition. Swai is absolutely delicious... Ever wonder why it's called swai? Because they lobbied for it not to be called catfish and now since it didn't work they want it's name to be changed back to catfish.

Vietnamese water are polluted but look this way most these Vietnamese live pretty long lives compare to Americans .. they been eating these fish all their lives.. however.. we as American eat garbage meat , fish , poultry loaded with low dose of antibiotic and hormone ,, hence most European countries and Taiwan ban our export meat..there is big reason for this ,, its cause our body to build tolerance for drugs..soon less and less drug is effective ,, and our body to developed untreatable super bugs that are very extremely hard to get rid off...American suffer most inflammatory disease then any other nation,, and you wonder why this is happening ,,.not to mention our drinking water is deliberately polluted with left over fertilizer chemical call fluoride ,, i would much rather drinking water from mekong river then drink water loaded with fluoride .. atleast human waste water won't killed you ..

You lost me when you said fluoride was bad. Fluoride is needed for teeth hence the reason dentists give people fluoride rinses for teeth.

    • @mtnmotoadv
      @mtnmotoadv 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

+JixelJwn This is flatout wrong. Too much fluoride will cause dental fluorosis and will rot them straight out of your mouth. Fluoride is a toxin and we're cooking with it, drinking it, bathing in it..
Teeth require good hygiene and a proper diet, not fluoride.

"they been eating these fish all their lives.. however.. we as American eat garbage meat , fish , poultry loaded with low dose of antibiotic and hormone" with diction like this I highly doubt you're american. Also asian foods contain far more antibiotics than american ones, antibiotics which are recklessly administered to the extent that they're creating antibiotic-resistant diseases which could ruin modern medicine. A post like this feels far more like you have an agenda than anyone else

The fish became super cheap due to the fish having fast growth rate, the tech to farm them is inexpensive and feed is heavily subsidies. However, because it so cheap it could hinder open market and over compete(America) foreign local caught fisheries. There's always a trade off, Don't be fooled.

Come on folks ain't that bad. Just few pieces of poops ok....The toilet is built right on to the catfish cages where people drop their loads FYI.
The river is pretty big, it dilute all that nasty shit. Problem is over population and antibiotics use in the feed.
The Vietnamese in Vietnam don't eat Basa they mostly eat locally caught fish

this is an old story told by people that want to protect their own business, In November 2000, a delegation of about 20 visitors, including professors from the Auburn University (Alabama) and catfish raising and processing companies went on a fact-finding tour in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam.
