Great topic. I absolutely love topo maps. Years ago, my father bought me a Book: Topographical Map of WV. I have referenced this book over 1,000 times over the last 40 years. It is so interesting!👍🏽 I’m old school, I love holding the paper in my hands while reading maps. Thanks. 👍🏽
Prior to my military experience..had no idea...topo is a huge area where people fail in school...its a fantastic tool...thanks for doing a video about great content😊
thanks for the topo link. Not too long ago google maps could show the topographical lines but they are not there now and the terrain is especially blurry compared to before. On our property in SE KY We have some 100' tall cliffs where I would think four lines would converge on the maps but the topo maps just shows them as a slope. not sure why that is unless these are mapped based upon before the coal was taken. Your iPhone really does take great video. The DJI mic has an adapter for both USB C and lightning so you can connect to both phones with no add-ons needed.
Really good video. I love your content. It's neat the things you think up to make videos about. We recently purchased 43 acres in WV a little over a year ago and we're trying to find the survey lines. Looking at the topo map does help.
I need this channel to go wild amongst all my US friends who have online jobs and can't afford a house in the city they live in. People with portable jobs can afford to move to places where homes are cheaper.
Other half of Peace in the Valley here … great info! Thanks. We would be interested in hearing your thoughts on our property in SE Kentucky. Been working on plans for how we want to develop it. Let us know if you’d want to do that 👍🏼
Thanks, Troy! I have always loved maps, and now I understand a lot better how to get the most information from a topographical map. Very good information! There is a realtor up here in Maine who includes a topo map with his listings online, but I don't pay too much attention to it because he also gives a video tour of walking the property. Someday I hope to buy some land again.
The last thing you said about the Doogi phone was most interesting. You didn't pay a monthly fee for service, but got messages, google etc ?..using your wifi ?
Both panhandles are going to be more expensive per acre due to the location to major populations. Look down in north central around route 50 between clarksburg and Parkersburg.
@@RedToolHouse thanks for the reply. I enjoy your content. We used topo maps from the 40s to determine where to hunt for grouse in the 70s and 80s in Wisconsin based on the cleared areas that weren’t swamp in the 40s. Usually nice aspen. But now nobody cuts 200 acres at a time and puts in roads. It’s only 40 here 40 there and no access.
Now Troy I love the videos and info, and I understand you're here trying to make a dollar, but dang a four minute ad in the middle of the video? If I ever saw a video had a four minute preroll advertisement, Id click off the video without thinking twice about it.
In high school i took a forestry class. learned surveying and reading topo maps. great skill to have.

Flooding. Landslides.

When I was in high school ROTC we had to learn to read TOPO maps . It was a challenge I must say but I understand why it's important to the military
I knew enough about topo maps to get by but I definitely learned a few new things from this video. 👍
✌️😜 Great info to know, personally had no idea🤔 Thanks Brother 💒⚔️ God Bless us All 🇺🇸🙏✝️
Invaluable knowledge shared right here! Thanks Troy!

Never buy land with out looking at it and talk to people that already live there. Good video.
I love that salt river crossing in AZ. stoked you rode through it.

I enjoy a good topi map! My grandpa taught me to read them as a teenager. Great video
Used to hike the Chattanooga river area in the southern Appalachians. Topo is the only way to go

Learned a lot.

Thank you!
Thank you pop
Great topic and well done !
Very useful content, thank you😊
Lots of cheap land is that way due to shear cliffs that prevent access to most of the acreage. Good topic for a video.
Looking at the topo map for your property wouldn’t the estimated elevation at your house be closer to 760 than 860?
the WV gis website has topography maps, flood plain, water (creeks and rivers) shown on maps
Phone also shown on YT survival russia. Great video and informative
The last thing you said about the Doogi phone was most interesting. You didn't pay a monthly fee for service, but got messages, google etc ?..using your wifi ?
Yes. WiFi only
What app do you suggest for a apple phone to find property lines that is cost efficient
Thank you
Are there any counties in WV that you would recommend purchasing land and nay counties you wouldn't recommend purchasing land?
Some counties have higher property taxes but I wouldn’t eliminate them for that reason only.
What about the counties in the north of the state closer to Pa and Maryland. @@RedToolHouse

It’d be interesting to investigate where that old black square building is at the black side of your property up there on the hill.
That was the old tool house for the gas company
