    I know you got into the back and mentioned the ratcheting arm, but you didn't mention the actual sticks. You can tighten or loosen the springs attaching the sticks to make them harder or softer to control. At 29:25 you can see the spring and the screw directly above that. On the other side there are 2 that look directly like this. Just tighten/loosen per your comfort level.

    The most magnificent, informative video I have seen on the 8J. Excellent work, I was glued to it.

  • @JimRyanAircraft
    @JimRyanAircraft 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    As with most Futaba radios, the 8J's switches are mounted on small circuit boards. This means swapping switches is not a simple matter of unscrewing their bezels and moving them. Furthermore, the 8J's switch boards are left and right handed, so you also can't swap E/F with G/H. About the one thing you could do if you have the skills would be to unsolder E and replace it with a 3-position switch. If not, I'd probably just get used to using G where it is.

    This is the best radio out there.
    I use it too and I love it.

    Thanks, Good Info! I rarely use the range check mode, I just done trust any system to restore normal range electronically. When range checking, I normally walk to the end of the field in normal mode while someone watches the model.

    8J & 10J are outstanding radios ! Never a single issue with either ,EVER ! Hundreds of flights and not a single issue !
    Worry free flying, 48" electrics or big gas aerobatic and warbirds, I trust these two transmitters 110% . Pretty sure Rich is flying Spektrum now , pretty much doesn't have a say in the matter .Horizon owns FMS ,Spektrum, ...soooo.

    • @RCINFORMER
      @RCINFORMER  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do have a say... I fly what I like best... while Futaba is great, spektrum has a better switch layout & way more user friendly menus:)

  • @TheunsatisfiedCustomer
    @TheunsatisfiedCustomer 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice Review. FYI - When in the menus most settings can be reset back to Factory default by pressing + and - at the same time. This includes the Trims, D/R Expo, End Point, Sub Trim, Trim Adjust and Parameters.
    The LED on top of the radio is not just there to show who's radio is who's it also changes to purple when doing a range test "Power Down Mode" so if you use the LED for radio identification you may not want to use purple. :)

    I don't have an 8J, but there's a lot of info in here that will help me setting up the Tx that I do have.

  • @RCINFORMER
    @RCINFORMER  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    If i were to guess, it is probably not the transmitter but the receiver that may not handle the AMP DRAW! Check the specs on the amp draw of the 2008SB receiver and a higher end Futaba receiver and compare the AMP draw limits.... several 1/4 scale servos may be to much for the receiver.

  • @FilmIn5D

    great review! Is it at all possible to make the throttle stick self-centering, say with a spring or something?

  • @RCINFORMER
    @RCINFORMER  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    perhaps it will work fine on both.... what are you trying to achieve? There seems to be several applications for that charger.... It works great for me!

  • @KGFlyer55
    @KGFlyer55 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another nice job Rich, just a question. I use the 8J to fly multirotors , I've never tried it without the ratchet style throttle. Do you think it would be beneficial for me to switch it to the non ratchet setup?

  • @zero00tolerance
    @zero00tolerance 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello thanks for the well informed tutorial. I fly multirotor and the guy that sold me this radio sold me the airplane version instead of heli.. so the switch E only has 2 positions. Do you think that is possible to open up the controller and switch the switch E with switch G around ? I know there is a way to switch from Mode 1 to Mode 2 throttle gimbal but not sure if it's possible for the Switch E and G. Thanks

  • @RCINFORMER
    @RCINFORMER  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, you can more precisely modulate the throttle setting to control the altitude....

  • @RCINFORMER
    @RCINFORMER  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't see why not! It is set up for HIGH VOLTAGE and S-BUS as well, I am currently flying mine in a 79" LX Models B-25.... where does it say that?

      RCINFORMER True. Would you suggest me to upgrade from the 6J soon?

  • @RCINFORMER
    @RCINFORMER  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, the (4) stands for 4 Cells (4.8 Volts). A given Battery must be charged at a higher voltage than the rated voltage of the battery. This is the charger I use to charge my 8J thru the radios charge port. If you charged a 4.8 battery at 4.8 volts the battery will not take the charge....voltage kinda flows down hill:)

    Does the center pot at the top works as a one-axis servo pot, like on of the joystick, or it's used only for special functions? I wish you could have move that pot while on the servo screen menu.

    • @RCINFORMER
      @RCINFORMER  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can be assigned to anything. Yes, you can assign it to a single servo. On airplanes, assign it to the nose wheel and then slave the nose wheel to the master rudder channel, this allows me to trim the nosewheel on the ground without affecting the rudder:)

    Hi. Thanks for the nice video. Can I link two R2008SB receivers with this radio? I'm making a two parts camera robot that can be used either together or separately. That's why I want to link two receivers: I'm using a HPI baja for doing the front/back movement and some other linear servos to do the lifting arm. • @RCINFORMER
    @RCINFORMER  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The instruction manuals for both radio and charger contradict each other! I speculate that the radio manual may be incorrect. I use the HBC-3B(4) charger constantly to charge the 4 cell Nimh pack without removing it from the radio. Would you use a 6v charger to charge a 12volt battery? Most chargers put out more voltage that the battery they are charging or the battery will not take a charge.... its just physics man...

I'll be flying a couple of multirotors with this radio, so I figured a good quality radio is a good start :) Can one use a LiPo or LiFe pack in place of the nimh? I assume a diode or 2 would be needed to drop the voltage. Cheers.

      Probably ok to use a lipo, but not sure.... I have flown about 35 models on the 8J now, my only complaint about it is that I need more model memories for all my reviews, but that is not a problem for most:)

      Hehe yeah wont be a problem for me - I'll just be flying a few multies, a plane perhaps, and I might even throw an RX into a car/truck and drive it old skool like, with sticks instead of the usual trigger and wheel ;)

    Yeah I know the difference between rechargeable and alkaline. I'm asking who is correct? You or Tower/Hobbico? This is why I asked about the "Voltage going down hill"???

      Thanks for answering. I have difficulty with the servos, they respond late. When entering power mode and then servo test work perfectly, but returning to the main menu reappears the problem. Can somebody help me?. Thank you very much

    .i do have futaba i just trashe,t sucks radio spektrum is better than futaba quality more better easy to setup

    • @rcnut812
      @rcnut812 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spektrum is easier to program than Futaba,this probably being they are geared toward the novice in general. Ease of programming is useless if it doesn't retain a reliable link to your aircraft. You won't find many large scale airplane or jet pilots that will touch Spektrum unless they are in someway being compensated by them. Pilots in the know will usually favor Futaba and JR mostly. These radios are much more capable of setting up complex aircraft with a high number of servos. Spektrum's programming just isn't up to the task and just doesn't have a robust enough link between transmitter and receiver to be trusted in multi thousand dollar aircraft.

      man my story i buy 3 trex 40 and 550 almost i have them 1 year i play with futaba control now i am not able to program control no help even on park they told me trash futaba i am stock my futaba t8fg 8 chanell swash work but motor dont spin lol

    • @rcnut812
      @rcnut812 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hate to hear that. Futaba's programming can be difficult to navigate until you become familiar with it. I would love to help you get your transmitter programmed properly but unfortunately I use the Futaba 14sg and I'm only familiar with airplane programming. Good luck and fly safe. The effort to learn Futaba's way of doing things will pay off because it really does have one of the most trusted and reliable transmitter to receiver links in the industry. I wish you the best.

      Your funny,Spektrum is for people that like to buy bind and fly toy junk. I speak from experience when I tell you that I made the huge and costly mistake of trusting a DX-8 with the ar8000 receiver in a 25% Super Decathlon. It resulted in a brown out destroying a $1000 airframe. I switched to a Futaba 14sg and have never looked back and haven't lost an aircraft since. I wouldn't trust a Spektrum transmitter in a toy truck from Wal-Mart.
