I might be wrong, but I think they were friends while she was 17 but didn't start dating until the following year. Idk, from where I see it, they seem to have a pretty healthy relationship and did break up for a while and probably did some growing up then. Gary at least knew to set boundaries while Donna was still a teen.

I like Donna's take on the James situation. Age wise 17 and 22 isn't a huge age difference. It's the fact that James continually does this and takes no steps to change his behavior. He's so wealthy, has build this huge career that he's willing to throw away, and fails to understand the weight that him simply being James Charles holds over the teenagers he's talking to.
