    Please don't patronise your viewers, the feigned enthusiasm is unnecessary. It's an advert, a promotion. Disclose it and move on.
    I like the look of the scope and always like your videos. Many viewers are the same, we'll judge by your honest review not the bs.

    • @EEVblog

      If you think I'm not enthusiastic about showing people a new unreleased scope then you need to watch more of my videos.

    • @MacoveiVlad
      @MacoveiVlad 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      He was only having fun. It is hard to imagine Keysight suggested the "script". In fact i'm not sure they are happy with their new thing to be presented as coming from the garbage. Probably he didn't want to be that over excited guy presenting a great promotion on his channel and went the other way. :)

    • @teardowndan5364
      @teardowndan5364 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Dave was likely asked by Keysight if he'd like to participate in Keysight's giveaway promo and submit an original concept that fit with his channel. If we're seeing this video, then the concept, if not the whole final video, has likely been vetted by Keysight.

    • @MacoveiVlad
      @MacoveiVlad 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I somewhat doubt Dave lets companies approve/deny his videos. I say they dropped five oscilloscopes on him trusting they will get a fair review. He probably signed a NDA stopping him from doing a tear down before the product is released.

    • @teardowndan5364
      @teardowndan5364 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is part of a pre-launch promo. I would be really surprised if whatever agreement(s) Dave had to agree to in order to participate in pre-launch activities didn't include clauses allowing Keysight to veto things that go against the promo's spirit.
      For example, instead of wondering if the glitchy waveform display in the response plot were intended as he usually would, he simply glossed over it and moved on.
      His agreement likely required him to save any criticizing and nitpicking for his post-launch review.

  • @igsaturation
    @igsaturation 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice. Build quality looks far better than competitors and response is speedy. Only a teardown and full review will show.

    Dave, considering that the huge Keysight givaway is limited to a small number of (wealthy) countries, maybe limit your giveaway to the other countries? As it currently stands people less likely to win are also people less likely to be able to afford to buy any scope.

      You can make something similar for home workshop using fast adc, cheap processor, ram and a few microcontrollers. PC is way more powerful than those 3k USD oscilloscopes for the purpose of indication or function calculation. Also, I doubt there is some free delivery across the border in those countries. For the same amount of tax payed for a "free" something delivered over the border, you could get the components for something better for use with some PC. Also, you can potentially get the components from the used electronics, which is available even in some poor Africa countries. What is needed, is the knowledge and skills to put it all together.

    You could make a living just dumpster diving in that building. I once furnished a whole office with all stuff we picked up by driving around a wealthy part of baltimore over two weeks going through all the stuff behind the buildings. Credit card machine, phone, fax chairs, stationary, decorations, paintings. That would have cost us thousands of dollars if we went to staples and bought it all new. Another good place to look is building that are under renovation. We once offered a guy to pick up a full sized aluminum trailer to an 18 wheeler. We got $1500 for the trailer as scrap aluminum and a working three keg kegerator with all the taps and all stainless steel.

    This video is a really good poe haha, just to anyone who is confused or thinks he actually found 5 of these in the rubbish, he has the scopemonth giveaway sponsored by keysight in the description, keysight probably gave these to him for the giveaway. Either that or this is a master level poe and I'm the one being fooled :P

    • @MindFlareRetro
      @MindFlareRetro 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough. All I heard was "dumpster dive" and "Keysight 1000 X-Series" and I pulled the trigger on a comment. It seems a lot of people are having the same mental lapse based on the comments.

    A Bode Plot function/FRA (THIS ALONE COST $400 STANDALONE), DMM, Hardware Protocol Decoding(Not This Rigol ZYNQ Software Decoder), Training Signals, Signal Generator, Quality Software + Hardware Interface... Not shown is BenchVue which will probably also be part of the arsenal of quality.
    This is a High End scope for the "Low End" market, this is how a budget scope should be built. I hope they release a 4-channel version. I see this used as a replacement for those old Tek/Rigol scopes found in university/student labs, don't waste your time with an Analog Discovery this is the real deal.

    • @arcade_signal
      @arcade_signal 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You seem pretty gung ho about this scope so I'll ask you, why would I get this over a siglent SDS1202X-E (not the regular 1202X)? It's 200MHz out of the box, has all the decoding that's extra on the Keysight out of the box, has an intensity graded display, has 14mpts memory depth while this only has... 1mpt?!? The siglent is also under $400 loaded up while the keysight loaded like you describe would be over a grand easily. Is it just a brand thing, I mean I get wanting a good quality brand but do you really think you're getting the same quality in this scope as you would a "real" keysight? This thing probably comes from the same chinese factories that crank out the rigols, insteks, and siglents so what's the point in paying so much for so little?
      I seriously want to know what I'm missing here because to me it seems like keysight is giving this thing out left and right but I haven't seen a single honest review come out comparing it to other scopes on the market from any of the people keysight has given it to and it's starting to seem like something really shady is going on. Where is Dave's usual take no prisoners approach for example? Nobody seems to have anything to say besides "hey look at this 'cheap' keysight scope!" with no comments whatsoever about how it's features compare to other things on the market. Somebody at keysight's marketing firm must be laughing their ass off at how easily this community is manipulated with free stuff, it's pretty goddamn sad.

    I really don't care how, when, or where Dave acquired them. Personally I would love to get one in my cold, medium size hands. My old, old, old HP analog, 20 MHz scope has seen much better days. Dave, are you listening?

    • @berniwa
      @berniwa 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Actually yes! IIRC the scope runs Windows CE in the Background xP

    • @teardowndan5364
      @teardowndan5364 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HP had its first Windows-based instruments something like 15 years ago, if not even earlier than that and this has carried through Agilent and Keysight brand changes. Having a 20-30s boot time is rarely an issue for bench equipment since those usually get turned on in the morning and stay on all day. Also, if you are going to do precision measurements, there's that 5-10 minutes warm-up time for the clock and voltage references to settle.

    • @JasperJanssen
      @JasperJanssen 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Teardown Dan my scope is vacuum-state rather than solid state. It has to warm up for a minute or two before *anything* is on the screen, and more like 10-15 minutes before it works well.

    Would be interesting how these compare to the R&S HMO1002 and HMO1202 series.
    HMO1002:
    - 1GS/s
    - 50/70/100 MHz bandwidth (license key)
    - Wavegen (sine/rect < 50kHz,
    - 4 bit pattern gen (counter, rect, arbitrary, UART, SPI), 2048 Samples, 50MS/s
    - 2 analog or 1 analog + 8 digital channels
    - 1 MOhm impedance
    HMO1202:
    - 2GS/s
    - 100/200/300 MHz bw
    - Wavegen/pattern gen (s.a.)
    - 2 analog + 1 digital
    - 1 MOhm and 50 Ohm, switchable
    Connectivity (both models):
    USB host (USB stick, printer), USB device (SCPI, serial and USBTMC), Ethernet (SCPI, VXI and raw TCP)
    Keysight 1000 X-Series:
    - 2 GS/s
    - 100 MHz bw (fixed or sw upgradable?)
    - 2 analog channels
    - 1MOhm? 50 Ohm?
    - Wavegen - Sine, pulse, +20? more, 20 MHz?
    - Frequency response analysis
    Connectivity:
    USB host
    Remote control? Ethernet, USB device?

    Maybe those dumpsters are located above an ancient kangaroo cementery build by the native australians(?), that would explain the fact that very rare (mostly impossible to find) things respawn inside those containers, or... the entire "hey look at the model of ICBM I found in the dumpster" was sarcasm. :/

    I really would love a scope. Ive been looking at an older rigol for simple stuff like data lines, buck converter measuring, or ossilation checking for clk on iPhones.
    Keep up the great videos

    The bode plot and generator features really sold it for me, but then I looked at the price. It's £600.
