I appreciate this video. Im cleaning out my workshop and found one yesterday. It must of belonged to my husbands father. I love it! It seems things made today are meant to break. Mine sounds like it has debris in the fuel tank. I haven't cleaned it up yet but it doesnt seem to open up to clean that part. It also has a small funnel with it!
I really like my Coleman stove and lanterns. I only run Coleman white gas since the ethanol in fuel today and other additives isn't good for the internals. Really nice stove.
I love those stoves. I carried one with everything I deployed and let me tell you. it burns great on jet fuel and I always had hot water to shave with. mine got lost while in three Gulf War. It was like losing a friend. Thanks for the history.
It's a great multi fuel stove. The military went to Coleman and in two months they had the 520 ready. The 530 followed as the civilian version. It was a hit and a great little stove. Thanks and take care
Coleman Has been around for a long time... I have a lot of Coleman stuff but, I don't have this stove... Man, it is good to see it in operation and to have some history behind it... Outstanding, Rusty!!
Thanks Bill, I was amazed to read the history of all the company has done over the years. Very successful and diverse company. Proves why they are still in business today.
Found one last summer at a garage sale. The seller said it belonged to his father and he never knew what it was used for. He just wanted it gone. I'll probably use it to make coffee when I'm out in my pole barn running my vintage electric trains.

Hey Rusty, Thanks for the information. I just picked up one of these at a yard sale and now I know how to use it. Neat little stove with an interesting history.

Cool little pocket rocket they call them pocket rockets because they could fit in your pocket and they would sound like a little rocket how loud they were
Neat little stoves.i have one made by smp.needs pump assembly. I believe there were several manufacturers. There should be extra parts attached somewhere I may be wrong tho.i have quite the Coleman collection...to the wife's distain.
I got a question my valve doesn’t do anything. I can turn it up or down the flame doesn’t go down at all. It works like yours does to heat stuff up but I can’t seem to adjust the flame What does that mean?
Well you were right! I disassembled it and found out it was very dirty as well as the cleaning tip and rod was just laying in the tube. I reconnected it and it works as it should! Thanks again!
very neat little stove you have done well explaining the history of it and the operation of it great demo on how it works and hope you enjoyed the fresh coffee I know I would of seemed to polish up nicely a a bit of elbow grease and it will be good like new
I'm sure I could have controlled that flame up a little better but I thought everyone would get a kick out of the flame...haha Thanks Ron and Take care
I hope the military version didn't shoot up such a big flame. Imagine that on the front line. Another interesting find there Lloyd and of course a coffee--ahh
That is awesome I have never seen one of them that is so cool it is going to look great all cleaned and polished up. enjoy make some coffee and lunch on the thing .
Coleman lanterns and stoves, what a great company, is there any other that builds a product that has the longevity of there's, can't imagine that there is.
Hello yesterday i buy a 530 A47 what means A? , i restored, a lot of work... 50 years unused.. but i manage to get this beast working like charm.. the ex owner lost the tool... i try to recreate it... when you say gasoline is the car common fuel? sorry for my english.. on alcohol can run too?
Far enough behind to make a difference Lloyd. Because I had to stop so early I didn't think being 65 would many any difference, how wrong was I. Found out why you retire at that age. 4 years ago I was '21' (well much of the time). Now I'm 101 lol.
HI Lloyd, Don't the Lil' Hand Pump turn? I seen when you was pumping it you didn't turn it at all to Open it up, and afterwards you didn't turn it to close it up.
Hey Rusty, That is like my old primus stove though mine was like 10inches across, I never see these for sale at the flea market or second hand stores.... Thanks for posting Bud!!!!
Rusty glove box. I just saw your video right now. I have one of these mine doesn't seem to burn as hot and it takes a very long time for water to boil. What is the maintenance on these?
It got it's start as a military stove for the foot soldier. It could not be any larger than a thermos. Coleman had the military a working prototype in less than 2 months. They made the civilian model until 1950. Thanks and have a great week
Hello rusty, very nice little stove. Do you know what's a good price for them now? I heard that they could burn any type of combustible fuel, do you know if they can burn kerosene ? Thank you
Well, price is related to how bad you want it, the condition and completeness. If you could find a complete one for less than $45 might get it. They can go for much higher. On what I have read about them, they did not list kerosene but it might work, I may try and see. Thanks and good luck
You're turning into a regular pyromaniac Rusty. Ha, nice video on the history of the Coleman stove. Been around a long time especially in the camping world.

Very cool stove there Lloyd. I have never seen one of those before. I seem to remember never seeing that Coleman oven you have before either so it makes me wonder that maybe Coleman didn't sell those items in Canada.
Nice little compact stove and does a good job. Only made them for about 5 years. Maybe the flame at start up was to scary...haha Thanks and have a great week.
Handy little stove. Good shape for it's age. Didn't know you could use regular gas. We've got the later Coleman 2 burner that burns the white gas. Cool little stove. Works real good too. It's going to clean up nice. Another great find.

It’s a great little stove and perfect for carrying along in a pack. Thanks Dan

Speedway Motors has a large selection of vintage t-shirts
Nice cook stove! I have a coffee pot exactly like yours for use at camp.
They still make a good cup of coffee. A few coffee grounds are no problem. Adds fiber to your diet...haha Thanks John
I got a question my valve doesn’t do anything. I can turn it up or down the flame doesn’t go down at all. It works like yours does to heat stuff up but I can’t seem to adjust the flame What does that mean?
The valve might be blocked. May just need a good cleaning on the valve and tube.
Ok. Is it like a needle valve like the regular Colman stoves? I’m thinking maybe it broke? Or like you said it my need an internal cleaning.
By the way I really like your videos!
Thanks and good luck
Well you were right! I disassembled it and found out it was very dirty as well as the cleaning tip and rod was just laying in the tube. I reconnected it and it works as it should! Thanks again!
The one I got today at a yard sale it has a 47 on it number 530 Coleman what does that mean
"A" refers to the first 6 months of the year , 47 is the year. Good luck getting it going.

Coleman lanterns and stoves, what a great company, is there any other that builds a product that has the longevity of there's, can't imagine that there is.

Neat little stove. Well done on finding the info. That stove is about the same age as I am, as I was born November 1947.
I'm not that far behind you Malc, makes you wonder where the time went...haha. Thanks and take care

HI Lloyd, Don't the Lil' Hand Pump turn? I seen when you was pumping it you didn't turn it at all to Open it up, and afterwards you didn't turn it to close it up.
It will lock it in place by screwing it in. With me having to pump it while playing with it I didn't do it. Thanks Dan and have a great week.
0h 0k, Don't it lose it pressure like that? By not closing it.

What is the maintenance on these?
outdoorsey fun make sure it has the triangle disk in the burner and you may need to clean the needle. Good luck
Can Alcohol be used in the 530 stove ?
No, I don’t recommend putting alcohol in it. Thanks
What kind of mind did it take to even come up with that?
It got it's start as a military stove for the foot soldier. It could not be any larger than a thermos. Coleman had the military a working prototype in less than 2 months. They made the civilian model until 1950. Thanks and have a great week

I can imagine all rocket like noise when platoon of soldiers cooking at same time. Germans used Esbit fuel silently. Definitely US made first rockets.
Thanks for the info
that would be a handy gadget if the power went off so you can fry an egg or make some coffee.
I was thinking the same thing. Not too big but can do anything a real cooktop can. Thanks and take care
You're turning into a regular pyromaniac Rusty. Ha, nice video on the history of the Coleman stove. Been around a long time especially in the camping world.
I started to put a different video up. But couldn't hold back, that jumping flame was just to tempting . Great little stove. Thanks and take care
