For those of you who watched my vlog, this was the piece I mentioned that I was slightly nervous about recording because I had 3 days to re-learn and memorize it from the day that I got permission from the museum. I ended up recording it in one take because I didn't want to "perfect" a unique experience.

This piano’s very old, in fact pianists use to say that the life of a piano is worth the life of its owner (approximately 100 years old). I find this beautiful, and you can hear in this piano that nobody will ever be able to tune it again for more than 1 week because how old the components are. But still you can play it, reviving for a few minutes the spirit of a legendary piano full of stories. And damn, it speaks from itself.

I am struck, as so often in her blogs, with the contrast between her wonderful childlike enthusiasm for what she does, and the incredible skill and artistry with which she does it. She says she’s nervous because she only swotted up on this for three days, and then delivers a performance like this. I can’t get my head around it.

Liebestod is performed marvelously. What a treat to listen to how this Liszt/Wagner piece would have sounded on Wagner’s piano, no less. Just incredible that you relearned this piece in 3 days AND memorized it! Enjoyed this, thank you!

I feel as though a portal opened to the past. The piano has a sound, of sadness and of joy, from long ago, bittersweet, complex, heady, beautiful. Wonderful playing and a wonderful piece of History there. Well done.

Very interesting interpretation. This piece is wonderful... it was composed, without a doubt, with the heart, it expresses exactly what you can feel for somebody you truly love with everything you have within you... Wagner words in a letter to Liszt: " Never in my life having enjoyed the true happiness of love I shall erect a memorial to this loveliest of all dreams in which, from the first to
the last, love shall, for once, find utter repletion" .... You did a very good job and the experience of playing on his piano must have been great (even though his piano doesn't sound as good as this piece deserves)... Bravo!!

Exquisite pianism...perfectly fluid legato and attention to the singing line, powerful like the voice of the great soprano Birgit Nilsson! @ 5:06 - 6:08 the perfect build up in the phrasing...so full is the orchestral color in her playing. what a sublime treat to hear. brava Tiffany!!!

That was beautiful. You, your performance and the piano. It’s hard to not recognize Wagner’s piano.
I like how you were granted permission to play it by merely sending an email requesting permission to play it.
It shows how much the museum recognizes you as a great talent. If the museum didn’t record you they missed
    a great opportunity.

Back then , when I was studying Music , I went , I suspect like most of us , through a Phase when I tried to listen to almost everything Wagner composed , be it in the opera house or , of Course , in Recordings ( Solti`s RING stays a favourite one to this Day). As time passed , I became more distant to Wagner , though still Aware of the Wonderful Moments in his Music . And I must say , when this Liszt Transcription is rendered like you just have done , I enjoy the Music immensely . Well done , Tiffany ! As for the piano , I think it has a Wonderful Sound , and at least under your Hands, never sounds heavy ,even in fullest " orchestral " passages . Once again , my compliments !

Fantastic. Thank you so much for all the work you did for this performance! Those vintage pianos ain't easy to play.
I wish you can perform some day on an Erard Concert Grand from the 1880s or so that is in mint condition or has been restored by a top of the line specialist. The sound is stunning (and no sour notes) ; it feels much more like a modern grand; you would love it. (Curious? Search TH-cam for Paolo Giacometti playing Ravel's Scarbo on one of those).

Hello Tiffany, I enjoy the playing Liszt/Wagner's Isolde's Liebestod on Wagner's Piano. It still an incredible performance. The sound of a Forte piano is typical for the time period. I assumed the piano is set to original piano tuning specification for Erard piano. The tuning specification vary to many piano companys typically from A-432 to A-442. By the 1900's in the American, the piano companys number nearly 2000. In 1918 an international piano tuning frequency set at A-440 to all piano companys. A little fun fact on piano. ENJOY and keep playing the piano. 🎹🎶🎵

    • @ethanl.1699

Whoa young lady, such tenderness in the coda! Words fail. What happened to Wagner while composing Die Meistersinger where he went from "good composer" to freakin' genius? The "tuning" makes it sound so "19th century" to me. I can almost smell the old wood (from trees that probably sprouted during Mozart's lifetime) , old varnish and ancient dust.
