    Very enjoyable! Brings back memories. Loved all the detail, the sounds, and the use of a ][+ (my personal favorite machine). Thank you.

    I thought I was the only one that like modems. Great video.

    Now THAT'S a good-lookin' setup! I've been researching Apple II+ compatible modem software so I'll have to give ASCII Express a try, especially if it'll work with my Lantronix UDS-10 "AT" command set. I've got a Hayes SM 2400 just sitting and waiting for a dial tone. But alas, in my current abode, I have no hardline options. As always, excellent and informative video with great production quality! Thanks!

      Thanks, Chris. Yeah, AE is just one of many - look in Asimov under "comms" - there's quite a few in there. AE was just the most prolific of the ones that I could remember worked on a II+.

      On a somewhat-related note, is MoIP still a thing? I know the protocols/ codecs for VoIP and even FoIP are not good for truly successful analog modem-to-modem through the Internet setup. I’m still in my research phase, but are there devices and/or services that provide a decent MoIP experience? This might be an interesting MM topic for those looking to access traditional dialup BBS or online BBSs, such as Dj’s Place when they don’t have a PSTN into their home.

      Sadly, no... that never really gained any traction. But I do have an idea in the back of my head for a product that will make it possible, hopefully cheaply - I just never get any free time to develop it.

    Came here from 8Bit guy. Good quality production but was hoping for more old computer teardowns and repairs. Modems are somewhat interesting but honestly, it's a bit boring and I check out. Maybe using the modems to dial into a BBS if they exist or some history on old BBS's content those old modems were used for would be cool. I think most of us are looking for a nostalgia fix.

    Would have loved to have gotten a walk through on the different lights on the front and what connections were on the back. Still enjoyed the video, thanks!

      Considering they are standardized and prolific, I guess I just overlooked that. Perhaps it seemed like pointing out the obvious to me, but not so obvious to others. Thanks for the comment.

    Slick! I still have not been able to figure out what's wrong with my Apple Modem 1200 on my IIe, but last night I DID get USRobotics Courier v.Everything working on my newly-acquired Macintosh SE! I still want to get the IIe's modem working though. Still not sure if it's just my inexperience with the vintage Apple stuff or if it's a defective Super Serial / modem.

      Sorry I didn't get back to you about that yet, I've been traveling since we first talked about it. It's a very interesting problem, and would appear to be related to that modem - but I'm not sure I've absorbed all the data points you shared.

      TX Dj No worries, man! Sorry I've been blowing up your channel lately, but your videos are great! Well if you have a chance and feel like it I sent you a link to the video where I detailed out as much as I could. I just sure would like to get that thing up and running with that genuine Apple modem. But if it doesn't come up, it's not the end of the world. I can always slap another external modem on it haha ;)

    Want to know what else stacked on the Hayes Stack - a 500 or 2500 Western Electric phone.

    • @TheTXDj
      @TheTXDj  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh sure. it was specifically made for a 500/2500 style phone to stack on top. :)

      Yup I know. I had a red 2500 that sat on top of my Hayes modem. That was replaced by a Supra 2400 then a US Robotics. modem.

    in which year came the "hayes smartmodem 300" on to the marked? i know the first had no 300 in the name - but i saw some hayes modems with smartmodem 300 on the front and on the sticker under the product. and how about hayes modems for the european marked - are they sold in europe or only in the us/ca?

    • @TheTXDj
      @TheTXDj  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      BBSindex I really can’t say about the European modems- I don’t have any. The smartmodem got its 300 markings when the 1200 was released. What was that, 1982?

    • @BBSindex
      @BBSindex 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      did some research and yep in 1982 at the spring comdex hayes introduced the 1200 baud modem (for 699 bucks) that was the time where the 300 baud modem got it's redesign to smartmodem 300. hayes had approx 50% of the whole modemmarket with the 300/1200 models - but couldn't make it fast enough to the 2400 baud version. that was the moment where us robotics had a shot to the market and became also a big player in the modem-game b/c they finished a 2400 baud modem first for the consumer market.

    Correction: The Apple //e was made in '83.

    • @TheTXDj
      @TheTXDj  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kinda. :) It was designed in 81, the final product was completed in 82, and the production models began production in the final weeks of 1982. It officially started shipping to dealers and customers in 83. But you're right - I could have said that better. :)
