  • This video is show where the clicking noise is coming from inside the dash. Also used to verify that its working. This Fords Ranger a 2000 4.0 ohv 4x4 ext cab. I've been having issues with the 4x4 not engaging. It seems to be looking like the G.E.M. as everything else seems to very working. I check power to the motor and I have power at the transfer case motor. Please leave your comments below.

Gracias

Something happened. Have you checked your 4x4 relay? If so, then it your body control module. Ford refers to as a GEM. Mine was located behind the radio. Yours maybe different. I also had Corrosion on the plug harness underneath the cab. The power wire looked good at the plug. But behind the plug, was a small Crack. That let moisture in. Then the wire Corrosion would not allow the motor to work. I ran a jumper wire from inside the can, around the door jam and under the truck. Used a trim nail that was plain steel. Poked into the power wire harness and plug. Using jumper cables, as a ground. The motor was on the shop floor, I clamped to chasis and to the 4x4 electric motor. Then the unit started working

It was the electric motor under the truck. Went to pick and pull and done. Works fine.

When you refer to the "electric motor under the truck", are you referring to the transfer case shift motor?

Can someone tell me what that relay that’s making the clicking sound is called exactly?

Good question... anyone? I have an 2002 Ranger XLT 4.0L 4x4, does my truck have the same relay at the same location?

hi a have the same problem. how did you solve?

Check the 4x4 electric motor under the truck that it works withs a separate power source. If it does, then check fuses. Rangerforum.com is a good help. I also added a better ground to my dash wiring harness. Good luck

In the dash. You have to pull the radio. It's in the left hand side small little box

@@pjmccoy4216 I took out the radio and can't find the little black box just wiring the goes back into the dash, any suggestions? kennethhope68@yahoo.com No clicking from the dash.

@@kennethhope2591 did you see the body control module. Big black box? If so You have to remove it. Behind that box and lower down the dash towards the steering column, is a small black box. If you don't see you body control module, then yours will be on the passenger side kick panel. The plastic that touches the floor and has the door seal.
