@@MorbyLol Yup and for some reason it works fine just locking it but if there's not already animation in the session yet. If there is then you have to do this. Sfm can be so weird with it's stuff.
THANK YOU!!! I watched like five different tutorials on this and none of them mentioned the selecting all of the timeline bit, which is why mine wasn't working. Chubz is a true hero.
That step is correct, dragging bip_head to the Camera's transform. You have to click on the Camera, though, so that every one of its properties are selected, enter the Motion Editor, then drag the Playhead slider all the way to the right until the squiggly lines you see become straight (indicating the camera's own motion is gone).
Thank you so much for this! I tried looking at Valve's tutorial but I didn't understand, but you explained it much better for me Cheers from Australia :)
This video tutorial is AMAZING!! This helped me a lot cuz I always needed help to item lock for a long time. I now I know! Thank you so much for uploading this since like 6 years! X3
Thank you!!!! I couldn't figure out why my sandwich would lock and work with some animations with heavy and not work with others. This really saved me!!
Thank you sir your Tutorials are so much simpler and far easier to understand rather than many others ive seen thanks alot !! You earn your self a sub keep these going
Dude, you just saved me a lot of time, I'll give credit when I finish my video. Btw, I also had to delete the lines from the weapon bone (it was a mess) and my guitar is spot on now! Thank you!
Oh my god. Thank you so much for teaching a newb here!!! I do have one problem though. Sometimes when I'm trying to drag the bone to the other bone nothing happens. It doesn't highlight or anything. :/
I can't believe it still works after all these years. I barely remember anything about SFM, so if I picked it back up again I'd have to watch these tutorials myself!
Another cool bit that i think is generated by playhead, you gain this sorta "bounceback" thing. The animation goes past its set location, then heads back to it. its kinda cool.
thank you for the tutorial! SFM is messing up for me so it refuses to lock anything (dragging parent to child, I have the right hand selected since that's where Medic's bonesaw is) but oh well, at least I know how to do it when it starts working now! Very clear and cut to the point, thank you!
Still slide the Playhead bar. I was having the same issue (my prop had no motion but still would not lock), but once I slid over the Playhead, it worked.
wow! tks so much...just got back to my tutorials after 2 mos. I wanted to find clear and easy to follow tuts for actions like this..just tried it and it worked! just have to lean to tweak a little tighter but this was a great help! hope you post more tips like thisI'm working on a Mass Effect SFM project, but learning with just tutorials takes time and patience...and these help so much.tks again pdog
Click and select the Camera over in the Animation Set Editor, enter the Motion Editor, make sure all of time is selected, then drag the Playhead slider all the way to the right. This will remove all of the camera's own motions. That's the reason it isn't following your model -- the camera has motions of its own that are preventing it from being "driven" by the model.
Great tutorial, I was wondering if the same thing could be applied to lights? I'm making an animation with a car driving in a straight line and i can't seem to lock the lights to it
Hey man thanks for the tutorial i however am having a little trouble. I have a scout just sat down ive animated him manually so his arms reach down to pick up an item but im trying to lock the item but when i create animation for existing element i dont get the option to see model only the camera, if i select the camera and try it again it says "no dags found" any idea how to tackle this?
Dude, EIGHT years later you're still being super helpful! Thank you so much!
make that 10 years later

This is possibly the most seductive, southern sounding voice I've ever heard.

sus...
Ikr his voice is pretty sexy
It's that good ol' Southwest Virginia accent! Yeehaw!
That accent is lovely....
sounds like kenny's dad from south park

GamingLiveToday omg you're right
FlipYard He should have had the model be the Engineer instead of the Soldier.
Southerners are awesome.

When you choose the animation, uncheck "Generate Root Motion" so that it doesn't generate any motion/movement along with the animation.
Da-root - Transform
Nearly 10 years later and this is still very helpful, thank you!
to this day this guy is helping sfm animators who don't know what to do also thanks for the help
Pretty much the only American accent I like
LOL thanks man, I appreciate it.
it’s been 11 years and this still helps!

thank you very much. I was super confused as to what to do when I moved my model and the prop stayed in place. I appreciate it!
Thank you so much good sir, I had done everything you did but not the playhead. That's what I was missing and now it works your a life saver
Nice video. You're very good at explaining different concepts, and your end-of-video review is really helpful.
Thanks! The Playhead trick was what I was missing.
FINALLY SOME GOOD F...KING tutorials
Thaank you so much! I wish I found this sooner rather than spending the last 4 hours manually keyframing the movement
you dont know how much you helped me man...
Thanks for the help man, best one I found. searched every where for this. But the other were too vague

SFM Bob Ross right here. Amazing voice too.
i thank you very much for this help, it actually did help more than i think you think
Also, you can use "add team fortress item" so you don't have to lock items like weapons
Is there a difference? Maybe using the lock item for better detail to movement
This video helped me with my lock issues. Thanks.
You legit sound like Eugene from the Walking Dead XD
Great tutorial BTW :3
might be late but this shit still working, anyone whos looking this in 2024, fucking recomment this guys tutorial as it helps always

umm i got to where you have to get rid of the motion i'm using the machete from tf2 and it has no motion what do i do then
