I once saw someone jokingly describe TXT's aesthetic as depression in all it's forms and various masks and like they meant it as a joke, but they aren't totally wrong... so many of their songs sound happy or upbeat but have slightly darker undertones or lyrics

i apologize for my bad English in advance jajshsjskdoeosj
'I Know I Love You' is my all time favorite TXT song and it actually leaves a very bitter aftertaste. Yeonjun suffers because of his parents who constantly argue with each other, so he tries to run away from this kind of reality. you can see him wearing the green bracelet which is, in fact, the sign of a person with the mental disorders. in Yeonjun's case i guess it's the hallucinations. a lot of things points this out, especially the Betta Fish that appear in a huge number of scenes. as far as i know, Beta Fish can change its color in the stress situations (this also explains the cold shades in the MV), but the whole thing is just that not only Yeonjun can see them floating right in the sky, so it basically brings us to the fact that the friends are just Jun's hallucination. i often see the theories that he had made up these friends for himself, but in my opinion they existed for real as the whole TXT's universe is built on the story of their friendship. they just broke up with YJ for some reason (yk, in the 'Can't You See Me' MV they all had a big fight which, in my opinion, marked the very end of their friendship. so if we pay attention to this and the fact that there were some moments when he was sitting all alone, looking at his fish in the aquarium and smile through the pain, we would realise that he kinda intentionally hung out with them while knowing that all of these wasn't going on in the real life). tbh when you realise that all these funny moments took place in his imagination only, it kinda brings you down. and tbh×2, that after-bridge part when they were approaching the barrel all together gives me chills every time, because i can't stop thinking about how there is the sound of walking with only one pair of feet (+ recently i noticed that during the car scene you can clearly see how no one is reflected in the rearview mirror except YJ). it feels so melancholic that it almost hurts. the song itself is pretty dark too. i love and at the same time i hate the "I was fine to die" and "Please use me like a drug" lines because they literally *scream* about the loneliness and needing someone in their life incase to feel alive. in general, this comeback was pretty heavy for me emotionally, even tho i adore it. as the person who is not going through their best times lately, i was knocked down when it first came out

    • @uarmyyou
      @uarmyyou ปีที่แล้ว +5

omg i didn't notice before about the reflection and the sound of the shoes, thank youu and i hope you are feeling better rn💙 me too was stucked with those lyrics and also "When I'm sinking alone" and "i know it's real, I can feel it" parts not only in terms of lyrics but also the way they stress on some words and their articulation is so emotionally hard to take. i kept watching the mv cause it's so much impactful when visuals, the sound and the meaning is together. impactful so it brings you sarrow a little but i was okay for it cause ig i'm down for melancholia, not an healthy person quality i know😅

I really enjoyed watching your review and analysis 💗 TXT’s concept, as I feel like you figured out, could be summarised as ‘story-telling.’
Their entire discography is broken into chapters with each one telling its own story. The first series of chapters [The Dream Chapters] tells the story of the boys transitioning from boyhood to adolescence, with each album representing 3 stages of this transition.
    - The Dream Chapter: Star [debut mini album / title track: Crown / 5 tracks / March 4th 2019] - tells the story of the boys feeling anxious about changes in their minds and bodies but finding friends who feel a similar anxiety, eventually coming together under one dream to build a new tomorrow.
    - The Dream Chapter: Magic [first studio album / title track: Run Away / 8 tracks / 21st October 2019] - their first studio album continues this story of youth by narrating the magical moments the boys spend together as they experience new things and feel as if they are on top of the world.
    - The Dream Chapter: Eternity [mini album / title track: Can’t You See Me? / 6 tracks / 18 May 2020] - the final album in this series sees the boys wake up from their dreams and face the weight of the reality of the world; the boys feel lost and incomplete but continue to stick together.
The following chapter [the Chaos Chapters] continues the narrative from where the dream chapter left off.
    - The Chaos Chapter: Freeze [studio album / title track: 0x1=lovesong / 8 tracks / 31 May 2021] - The reality which the boys realized in their ‘eternity’ album has only become harsher, as the dreamlike life the boys once lived is gone, leaving them feeling empty and frozen. This is until the boys meet ‘you’ who is able to awaken the love inside them.
    - The Chaos Chapter: Fight or Escape [repackaged album / title track: LO$ER=LOVER / 11 tracks / 17 August 2021] - This album is a repackage of the ‘Freeze’ album, so it includes the 8 previously released songs from freeze, in addition to 3 new tracks.
Their next chapter, ‘The Name Chapter’ will start as they comeback with their mini album ‘The Name Chapter: Temptation’ at the end of this week. The press releases so far have said that this album is a concept album that will tell a cohesive story with each track depicting youth on the brink of adulthood. It “represents a generational narrative of journeying forward despite challenges of the world throughout.”
In between each ‘main’ series of chapters ‘minisodes’ are released which act as an interlude/transition between chapters.
    - Minisode 1: Blue Hour [mini album / title track: Blue Hour / 5 tracks / 26 October 2020] - this minisode followed the conclusion of the dream chapter and tells the story of how the boy’s face the unique and unprecedented challenges of the Covid pandemic.
    - Minisode 2: Thursday’s Child [mini album / title track: Good Boy Gone Bad / 5 tracks / 9 May 2022] - following the chaos chapter, minisode 2 narrates the experience of a first breakup by each song speaking to a respective stage of grief.
Hope this was interesting and helpful ☺️

Your theories actually amaze me. I've been a moa since debut and all your theories actually make so much sense, like through the video whenever you said something I was like "yes yes". Even tho txt does have a storyline which can be understood more in the webtoon, they themselves said that the purpose of their music is to relate to people and show the process of growth in teenagers and all the pains they go through.

  • @asreemse8143
    @asreemse8143 ปีที่แล้ว +86

I really love them because of their lyrics and messages. It’s so relatable even if it’s dark, it really makes me feel not alone. Run away used Harry Potter references as well as Alice in wonderland as they all went to magical land for a kind of “escape”. They use fairytales to express their story a lot especially in the new comeback. The Album that has Run away is called THE DREAM CHAPTER:MAGIC. Your theory was spot, especially the part of the running way is also them causing chaos. Because they have a complex when they run away on if they are actually good people or bad. And if they should choose the bad side at that expense. The next album after Dream Chapter:Magic is Dream Chapter:Eternity which had Can’t you see me. You didn’t take it too far at all because are really dark. In the same album as Run away there was a song Angel or Devil that was literally about that

For reference, txt's storyline, in a very shortened version is that they are boys who made a promise underneath a star when they were younger and they gained magic because of it. They forgot about thier promise and thier magic until years later when wierd things start happening to them, like Yeonjun growing horns or the others gaining wings. Now they are trying to remember their promise to the star and return to the magic island where they made the promise.

In Lovesong, Yeonjun plays a character who has mental issues he's indeed imagining all those things (there are those scenes in which he's imagining a big fish two times in the mv) and yes he found "happiness" only when he's with his group of friends here

I love TXT, especially because the upbeat music and dark lyrics. Can't You See Me it's my favorite song up until now, but all the others are not that far behind. I See the first songs, Crown, Run Away and Can't You See Me as a start, middle and end of a story, and I Know I Love You, Loser Lover and Good Boys Gone Bad as another one. For the first three the message I got was (maybe it's a little too dark) Sometimes you're in a dark place, and you need help, and your not really alone, people can help you, but it became a dangerous game when you trust all your happiness in those people because you can grow apart and you left alone in the same place where you started, so that person that you need it's actually yourself. It's a like depression to êxtase to depression again. With the latter three, like you said iylt could a love song as like friendship song, because that person that light up your word and you love can be anyone right? In that storyline I see like when you're at a dark place (again) and that on person appears and everything changes and you don't care about anything else anyone but in the middle you realize that it's like one sided? You put that person in that special place and maybe they wasn't that angel, but you don't actually care because it kind of took of that dark place anyway and in the end you accept yourself and "goes bad" and stop acting like people expect you to be and be yourself. Probably really bised, but that's the magic of music I guess there isn't wrong answers really.

You don't miss much. Your read of Can't You See Me - you had it immediately. That feeling of being alone when you're with someone you love. I really, really love that song, and your reaction to it was amazing.
I feel like TXT is perfect for you. Their magic themes, their use of both whimsical and dark symbolism and often both together - that just suits you perfectly, I think. I know I don't really know you, but still - it seems like it fits.
Something from the choreography that isn't visible in the MV - if you watch the dance practice you can see it - is that on "who's the liar" they all have their hands behind their backs as they face away from the audience - and two of them have their fingers crossed.
If you watch the MV knowing which two, you see that there are two of them who are clearly unhappy while the others are happy. And yeah, it's the same two. I love the intricate details.
I don't know if you've done it yet (and it's not music) but their most recent comeback trailer is just... honestly a work of art. Brilliant. I hardly remembered to breathe.

Since this is a long video (I love long videos!) I wanted to post before watching to say I’m so happy you are getting into TXT 🥰
Edit after Crown: TXT has always said they want to be the voice of their generation but even with that as someone who is a little older than them, I still feel like their message they are trying to share is one that I can also relate too. It’s one of the reasons why I love their music so much.
Edit after runaway/CYSM: there’s a reason why we call runaway and can’t you see me- King and Queen 🔥 You pointed out the symbolism in their choreography and I agree. Their team is so creative at telling the story/lyrics through dancing.
Last edit: This was a blast to watch. I really recommend you watch their Eternally music video. It’s very cinematic and feels like a short movie (it’s 20 mins long)

To answer your question, Txt were all between 16 and 19 yo during Crown but it's a song even oldest ppl can relate to as you said. I know I love you is really heartbreaking it's all abt mental illness and loniless. I remember Soobin said during an interview "we sing how our generation can sometimes feel" i think thats so accurate cause Txt songs really have that special vibe to their songs. I really recommend you to check out their bside "We lost the summer" it has an MV and it's a song made during the pandemic and very relatable for a lot of people. Crown has such a special place in my heart because of the message. TXT are really healing artists. “Are your wings the same pain as mine?” Might be my favorite lyric
As you were taking about Run Away, I think you really hit the nail on the head. TXT’s music to me, is all about finding yourself and your own happiness despite loneliness and a cruel world but there has always been pretty dark undertones along with it and I think that’s very representative of life. I think there’s a thin line between learning to be yourself/ doing whatever you want and hurting others or becoming indifferent to other people’s suffering. TXT have such real life duality and it’s really comforting and makes you think about yourself.

Loved your reaction, thank you, don't apologize for the length, you covered a lot! Crown still manages to make me cry [even though you blurred the MV]; Can't You See Me? is meant to be more understanding, we're all in pain, can we stop and see that the person next to you is likely suffering as well [even though their pain isn't the same as yours, the pain is real to them as it is real to you]; 0X1=LOVESONG was my song of the year for 2021, I love it truly madly deeply!; Frost special performance was HYBE's first foray into producing its own Studio Choom-like MV [TXT was the first artist featured on Studio Choom] - there is a lot of business decisions behind that production but I love it regardless. The only thing I think you missed in your interpretations of their music was, indeed, the fish in "LOVESONG," which are betta fish. Betta fish, while gorgeous, are also extremely territorial and aggressive. If you put them together in an environment, they will typically fight to the death for dominance, leaving only one survivor.
From a mental health perspective, I think that could have to do with how mental health issues are sometimes romanticized when the truth is that they are difficult, destructive things, often both to the person who is sick and sometimes to the people around us if we refuse to take responsibility for our actions.
From a story perspective, "LOVESONG" is connected to "L=L" and the Japanese version of "GBGB," which shows the friendship of the boys falling apart after they lose the person who was their "angel" in "LOVESONG," so it could represent how the dynamic between the characters is unstable.

just wanted to say after you read the quote at the beginning of lovesong and said it fits their concept... thank you !!! you have an understanding that their concept is about growing up and the challenges they face as they do so. sometimes people get confused as txt have jumped between bright songs like blue hour and then their pop punk grungey songs like lovesong deeming they have had a "concept change" when that's not the case at all. the genres change to reflect how they are feeling as they grow up showing different parts of that journey. lyrically this stays consistent and the message of the songs, music videos, ect is always leaning into this fear of growing up and escapism no matter the manner of it being displayed.

i loved your thoughts for run away. it's always been my favorite song by them since it brings me comfort, and i've always loved the magic aspect of it. but i never thought of it the way you did. yes, i thought they were living in their own world away from the real world, but i didn't think that could be paralleled with them just causing havoc in the real world at the same time. those scenes suddenly make so much sense to me ???

FINALLYYYY YESSS, Please do more and also check out their new album concept trailer THE NAME CHAPTER. The album is coming out Friday and I would loveeee your thoughts. I think you’ll love them, they touch A LOT on relatable topics about feeling alone, fear of growing up. Part of their story is that 5 of them rely on each other and want to be together cause that’s what makes them happy and they don’t feel alone. But there is a magic aspect where they get a chance to run away to a magic island, by an evil cat,who represents the character Peter Pan and neverland. The cat promises them they can be together forever and never have to grow up there and be away from the reality and powers as well. So the boys decide to go but t the cat says there is a price to pay once they are arrive and uses them. So the boys then have more conflict on whether they are bad or good people because they chose the bad side and etc. it incorporates many things but follows the exact same story as the part without magic.

They are real artist...I don't know why, but when I watch their music videos and read their lyrics I feel like they are my friends, they can understand me, they understand what is in my mind... And that's something anyone couldn't do in all these years , excep them(((:

I tend to get the general gist of TXTs storyline and then fill in the gaps however I want, because I lack the patience to deep dive into their webtoon and everything else to get the correct story.
The following is from the dregs of my brain and also prolly has bits I made up: 🤷‍♀
They started with The Star Seekers (their universe, formerly called the +U TU) as like a fairytale at their debut showcase where they're shown as 5 boys together under the light of a magic star that protects them, and they promise that if they're ever separated they'll come back here under the star to find eachother. At this point they have magic I think. They separate, and forget eachother, and the stars light fades. Then at debut Yeonjun woke up one day with horns growing out of his head, thought he was turning into a monster, ran into the woods to hide. But the others found him starting with Kai, and they reassured him he wasn't a monster, the horns were a crown. Each of them had a thing that made them different, YJ with the horns, Kai with the wings, Soobin had weird ears, Taehyun had a weird eye, Beomgyu had like spikes coming out of his shoulder (they show or hint at these "flaws" over multiple MVs and contents). They come together again under the star, which starts to glow again. And this place under the stars light is shown as the magic island, which I always saw as a kind of Narnia since they find it in different ways, it's magical, and they don't lose time there. Their MVs have dashes of Narnia, Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, a bunch of stuff. There's also an overarching enemy that's like a catlike presence with two different coloured eyes (who also features in BTSs universe) and it's like their main antagonist. That is as much as I am confident about.
I remember in The Dream Chapter it's all magical and finding the star and eachother and then in The Chaos Chapter as the name suggests, everything goes to shit. It went from whimsical danger to aesthetically depressing. 😅But that's around when they dropped the webtoon and I've been finding my own meaning in the content since then. To me it felt like they had a shift from a more purely fantastical / magical story in their MVs to slightly more reality based MVs, like they slowed down struggling against magical enemies and instead were struggling against their own reality, like when you hit that age when you have to put away some of your innocence because the realities of the world just slap you in the face. But even in L=L they yeet themselves off a cliff like they're still trying to get away from the real world and return to their magic island. It makes sense with their overall goal to be relatable to their age bracket. When they were debuting they had thatinnocence and then as they got older the concept or portrayal of the magic matured too. But they really leaned into Peter Pan with the trailers and concept teasers for this comeback so it may be a return to the whimsical danger we all love.
This quickly became a short essay. 😅

Great to watch this special spotlight on TXT. They were the second group I discovered after BTS and I remember having a really exciting ride with them. I love early TXt especially. The storyline is so good and the lyrics of the songs are so meaningful. As soon as i saw you were checking it out, I knew you were going to love Can't you see me. It's still in my top three songs of theirs, if not my overall favorite. It's a masterpiece, I agree. I genuinely like the friendship theme.
Unfortunately, the Crown MV tends to get blocked for most reactors, so I wasn't surprised you had to blur it.
If you're into storylines and really unusual and surprising songs, I recommend Eternally. It's a very long MV, chock full of storyline and great acting and aesthetics. But you can hear the song in its entirety in an audio only/lyric video, so I think you should do both. It is one of their most interesting songs, IMHO.
I'm so glad you checked out the Frost special performance along with the MV because it is freaking fire! BTW Yeonjun is my bias, so I feel you, but they were all amazing, particularly (to me) Kai in this one.
Can't wait to see their next comeback and your reaction to it!

for run away, I saw so many theories, the guys died in the fire, Taehyun is the only survivor but can't process the death of his friends, it a whole lore actually, there's somethig about a promise, magic .... I can't remmeber it well but you definitely should watch theories about their concept/ universe cause it's mindblowing. I love your reactions cause you dive deep into the lyrics and meaning behind everything ^^ Thank you so much

Yup they are actually playing with time in Runaway...and there will be an unknown penalty. You CYSM analysis was amazing. You should read the Korean title. As far as Love Song...Magic Island is a place of adolescence...but Yeonjun is the oldest. Also Magic Hour = Blue Hour as that moment of transition in the world from day to night. Frost is a storyline music video which is way everything was overtly magical. It also introduced the new name of their universe going from +U to The Star Seekers. So I won't explain what Frost is about because you'll make your own theories as you watch all the storyline music videos.
THIS IS A NO SPOILERS MV GUIDE: Just to clarify their title tracks are their general growing up story BUT they make reference to their magical storyline via plot hints and lyrics. The actual magical story is shown in the music videos Nap Of the Star, Magic Island, Eternally, and Frost. For example Crown talks about their antlers and wings and it gets explained in Nap of the Star. Runway talks about Magic Island and catching the train there and it's shown in Magic Island. The burn on Yeonjun's hand happened on Magic Island. Station/Platform 9 3/4 is because their Magic Island is an alternate of Tteoksam Station which is station #10 which you see in Blue Hour and Frost and so on. Their JP MVs also expand on the title and storyline MVs. Like GBGB JP version continues from Loser=Lover and Love Song JP version explains the aftermath of leaving Magic Island during Blue Hour and barely holding on to their connection via music until it disappears. There is also an animated short called The Doom's Night, a webtoon, and a web novel. Plus from their debut the magical storyline had teasers and photo cards.
The albums chapters are The Dream Chapter, Minisode 1, The Chaos Chapter, Minisode 2, and now The Name Chapter with Temptation being the first album on the 27th.

What’s so interesting about txt is they have a whole storyline going on since their debut. They build a universe which you can check out in wattpad and webtoon and throughout all their music videos called The Starseekers (it was called TXT Universe +u) The sequence of the +u’s are: (CROWN) Nap of the Star, (Run Away) Magic Island, (CAN’T YOU SEE ME?) Eternally, (IKILY) Frost. And a animation film (The Doom’s Night).
Since they’ve released Sugar Rush Ride, they’re probably in the works of releasing a 2nd mv which is ‘Devil by the Window’ which could be the “+u” of this era.
You dont have to know the whole storyline but those music videos tells a different alternate universe they have and it’s just all so beautifully made films that I know you’ll appreciate even if u don’t follow the storyline.

I have a theory for 'loser = lover' and 'I know I love you', it was obvious that two mvs are connected and all, and perhaps even the song. But anyway, my theory is that even though 'i know I love you' was released first, 'loser = lover' is the prologue of the storyline. As in the mv in 'loser = love' showed, the guys wanted to just run away from their problems and they did but in the last scene of the mv they (the car they were in) were mysteriously floating in the air; this could also portray that they probably got into a car crash or something. in 'i know I love you' they're also seen running away from their problems (mostly just yeonjun) and just having fun; yet at the ending scene for this mv as you saw, yeonjun is all alone and the car that is supposed be all burnt because of beomgyu was still intact. this is the last piece of my theory, and after the guys got into an accident, yeonjun was the only one who survived but he wasn't mentally stable at all cause he'll be imagining seeing his friends again and having fun like they had. But all of that theory could be wrong and everything cause 'loser = lover' mv also seemed to be connected with 'good boy gone bad' Japanese mv. in 'loser = lover' yeonjun is seen to be running away with his lover or just partner idk, yet 'good boy gone bad' jpn mv it seemed to be the person ditched yeonjun and ran away with money, giving yeonjun a whole ass villain backstory
