75 ships worth 3500 USD each were lost during the battle. I don't care if it's a computer game. Whoever the players of that game are, they're fucking badass for putting that much cash at risk for a battle.
People say that those players wasted their time participating in what amounts to a complete destruction of time consuming digital items when no real goal was accomplished. People say... these people have no lives. I, for one, disagree completely. These pilots took part in the biggest space battle that will probably ever take place in our lifetime. So, just take that into account before you insult those who have a different idea of "important" or "fun" than you do.
The Titan pilots have their ingame names immortalized with an ingame memorial. Otherwise a great example that games do mean something would be story of Sean "Vile Rat" Smith.
There's actually a series of blogs, dev blogs, dev spotlights and Lectures about the topic "EVE is real". The lectures are a part of the yearly EVE Fanfest and can be watched here on the youtubez, the blogs are featured both on the Eve Online website and various fan sites, giyf... ;) but thanks for making this video nontheless, I always find it awesome when channels pick up EVE as a Subject :)
There's also a hell of a lot of research going into lunar mining. One of the ideas is to build a "base" on the moon where we can use its resources to make the asteroid mining ships - less gravitational pull and no atmosphere. We're closer than you'd think.
People should play eve, it's pretty cool and much more advance than most MMOs. I've never been ganked (apparently that's a problem) and from what I've seen, the community is nice and respectful, always helping out newbies. Maybe it's not a good community, but I came from a back water server of wow, so...
to be more precise, this battle is the most costliest battle in EVE. there was a battle a year ago that was the largest in EVE history involving 4,000 players in a system.
great science as always, and i have a suggestion for an episode about the third law of clarke witch is "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic", so i was was thinking: the technology will be able to let us use magic power like in skyrim?
Considering that I'm still quite young (only 16), and the rate at which technology is advancing these days, I for one am actually quite hopeful that space mining, and other things of that nature, will be a reality in my lifetime. Like if you feel the same way! And if you don't like me asking you to like the comment then don't bother because I don't give a shit!
Wasn't very interesting to watch. You couldn't really see anything just a big lasershow for hours. What is really interesting are the reasons and the aftermath.
Hey Cam, here is an idea for an episode. I've been always fascinated with the science featured in the game Singularity. Is it possible to manipulate the time/age of certain objects? Age it or make it younger in seconds? Can/Do molecules store their physical attributes as a forth dimension?
Well only the capsuleers are cloned. The "crew" on your ship dies, according to the lore. And that can mean thousands and thousands of people - just on one ship.
Capsuleers are players(and devs as Jove/elite soldiers on the ground). This means there are only around 500,000 clones in the EVE universe. I'm not sure how many normal people there are, but I imagine there are many planets more populous than earth, as well as countless less populated colonies.
Not all 12 billion would have died, as some people would have gotten to escape pods. But also crew on surviving ships would have been killed, so it balances out, and is pretty accurate
About starting a new age of Space Colonies, is what exactly what I was thinking. If we are to build things, ships, colonies, we will need stuff from Space, not from Earth. I feel like in the future, when there are already Space Nations, the Earth will be a neutral free-extracting-resource Planet, where all the Space Nation's leaders and richest people will live in, and the farther the Star System from the Solar System, the more underdeveloped and poorer it will be (Something like Star Wars in the situation of the Core Wars and Outerim).
as of this comment there has been probs and I'm pretty sure even samples taken either by nasa or Russia or both or something like that which is very exciting
No it isn't. Larger and far more bloody battles happened due to lore. Also, if those were fully mortal crews, that number would have been in the billions.....
Wow that is amazing. An online video game battle that lasted 21 hours and caused a loss of $300,000 real world dollars? I would love to play this game because I love space, but I feel like I would need a university degree before playing it, it's so damn complex, lol. I might jump on board with Star Citizen when it comes out, that way I will be learning with everyone else who just started playing.
The resources to build our future are just sitting out there, but we have to come up with good ways to harvest them. Hope we can do that before we do something permanently stupid on Earth. :: logs into EVE and goes to hunt space rats (NPC pirates) while avoiding Pirates (Players who like shooting other players). ::
Do you mean it was slow because you lagged? Because they use time dilation and slow everything down to cope with stress on the server anyway, unless you mean system performance.
Idk how this battle translates to 12 million people considering in the eve universe its 1 person to a ship. And these battles are bound to happen. Before long there will be a multi-million dollar battle. These giant alliances have nothing better to do than make titans and isk all day long. The only thing u can do with that is put them into battle. Bc the game has an unlimited source of isk and the alliances are not buying it with real world money makes having a dollar amount attached battles really stupid. If it did it would be like saying ccp made 300,000$ from this battle alone. This game is pointless to start now unless u wanna play with small ships or truly believe this game will still be around in a few years. What I would like to see is ccp open a new server with skill training taking a third of the time. That would make me wanna play this game again.
the battle translates to 12 million because if EVE was real 1 person alone would not be able monitor and maintain the equipment of a Titan Class vessel, Starter ships and Shuttles maybe but not even a small Frigate let alone a Titan and as for "These giant alliances have nothing better to do than make titans and isk all day long. The only thing u can do with that is put them into battle." that's one of the best things of EVE, you build strong and powerful ships for combat when you own a star system because others will want it so you must defend it ship to ship battles are what make EVE great, it doesn't matter if its Fleet VS Fleet or just Frigate VS Frigate it's that any battle can have any number of combatants
I'm sure there are plenty of other asteroids with more, and others with that have other much more valuable elements. Please do make note that part of what creates a minerals or elements value is also its scarcity. Assuming we did mine a couple of asteroids such as the one you mentioned the price of platinum would plummet.
12 million virtual lives lost and tens of trillions of ISK... Well I hope gaining "control" of the ass end of nowhere in virtual space was worth the cost.
it sounds exiting but what i saw looked kind of boring go here do this, the only exeption to that was combat. only fun part : ( mining is just extensive. other than combat and mining it's ust go here go there. disapointing in my eyes, feel free to try it out yourself i won't stop you,ut i'm simply expressing my openion.
ThirstyMonkeyNicca LOL. Apparently not. Apparently, the game is about bitchin and cryin over other people's opinions..... and your response wasn't even a valid one. Most MMOS are about economics, Exploration, partnerships and so forth. That's like saying "PCs are about motherboards" lol, everyone has one or how Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. .... Well, actually Eve Online actually DOES play on a system not unlike a spreadsheet so I guess I didn't have so much of an opinion as a fact and a choice...
most mmos don't have a actual economy, aka one that means that dying means you lose the stuff. exploration? Sure, but not as interesting as EVE's. Partnerships? PVPing for no reason is pointless. You only have a opinion. You clearly haven't played it. ANd if you have, you really didn't.

Thanks for chipping in-with-the-info (yea no I don't usually rap).. Its just that I've decided today's the day I stop trying to subconsciously sugar-coat how shitty my stream on TH-cam has become (3-4yrs later than I likely actually first thought this to myself probably lol!) and just go out there and ASK for help. Rather than TH-cam constantly fucking me with its lookalike partner channels. It seems we've the same taste in channels, glad to know that.. Also slightly disappointed, seeing as how I regularly follow pretty much all of those except for Jenna Marbles (used to, now I follow Emily Hart more frequently). **sigh**.. Well then, certainly gonna check out Hank & Jed, BroScienceLife and SwearNet (hoo-ray 4 me). I don't get it though, back of my mind I knew I was expecting a little much anyways from an altogether tailor-made content universe that we're doused with more n more lately. Although thankfully enough there's plenty of quirky shorts and intriguing if not interesting music videos out there to "put out the flames" every once in a while.. Once again, appreciate it m8!
Overall I am happy with the content on my "front page". I typically have 20+ videos in my watch later section at all times. Most of them are from the Battlefield channels that I follow though. The biggest thing I have found helpful in finding new content is to look at what your content providers are watching and liking/sharing. I dont quite understand what you mean when you say "yea not i dont usually rap" Glad I could help though.
this is why i didnt play eve online beecus this happends too many times that gives u bullshit death..i wouldt never use mounth too train how to fly a marchine ina game lol wtf
This made me want to try out eve and I got into mining and made a bunch of money, until I looked up end game content and saw that it was a lot more of what I was already doing clicking and waiting. I uninstalled
"these titans take months to learn to fly" - hahaha that's a good one, you meant years
75 ships worth 3500 USD each were lost during the battle.

I would like to see more Eve content on this show please.
I was in the battle it was awesome!
*****
It was ok but i have a REALLY good computer
theexterminatorguy yeah Specs plox?
The picture at 2:32 is not a titan, it's a dreadnought which is not even close in size to the Titans, just thought it had to be said ^^
Still big though xD
This is fascinating. I love anything regarding real life attempts at venturing further into the universe than our own backyards.
This was the best Reality Check yet. Keep up the good work.
That venture will get ganked soon lol

wow this episode was really interesting, im not a fan of eve online but wow i loved this episode
Every Gamespot show should be hosted by Cam and Seb.
That is a crazy sounding battle it must have been epic to watch
It was the BEST!!!!!
Go watch it then
theexterminatorguy yeah Top Gun and skeletons.
Most entertaining 16 hours of my life.

What is the song at the end of the video?
Best series on gamespot
i was in the battle it was amazing as all hell. its great leading your group into battle

Wait its EVE and since all the people in EVE are clones technically no one died
Ships are full of mortal crew folk, they only die once. Players take control of the elite few immortals in the game.
The Captains are clones, the guys you play as.
Well only the capsuleers are cloned. The "crew" on your ship dies, according to the lore.
And that can mean thousands and thousands of people - just on one ship.

Not everyone is a clone
Excellent entertaining article thanks Cam and team for your time and efforts :)
Hows the song that start at 3:00 called ?
Make this a series. There is a lot of aspects to cover in EVE, and you only explained one.
Best show on gamespot!
Imagine being the captain of an whole fleet.. lol
I would say "Started from the bottom, now we here"
Not all 12 billion would have died, as some people would have gotten to escape pods. But also crew on surviving ships would have been killed, so it balances out, and is pretty accurate
WE NEED MORE MINERALS
fav episode so far just cuz eve was in there... the battle was glorrious lost about 10 ships but it was worth it haha
I lost 0. ninja salvaging was fun ^______^
Haha I see a sneaky one ;)
I'd rather be addressed as a thief :D
I think we have a very very long way til we reach that stage.
About starting a new age of Space Colonies, is what exactly what I was thinking. If we are to build things, ships, colonies, we will need stuff from Space, not from Earth. I was waiting to hear him talk about the weapons in eve :(
4:28 don't forget the UAC
Nice Idea, hoped to hear a bit more though, after the high expectations have been risen at the beginning with the attempt..
A really interesting episode. Me gusta
EVE IS REAL \o/
I salute you all, newbros and bittervets o7
True
Does anyone think it's too late to get into eve online? Also does it require a monthly fee?
1: Nope.
2: Yes and no. If you make ~600 mil a month, you can buy a plex. Otherwise, you have to pay $15 a month.
+Godin The Killer 1 billion isk now, lol
edit : im that old vet who felt a 350m for a plex. it was heavenly times.
The sun praiser D'Arc That does sound nice, 350m ISK for a plex
This kinda makes me wish that I had gotten into Eve Online a few years ago haha.
as of this comment there has been probs and I'm pretty sure even samples taken either by nasa or Russia or both or something like that which is very exciting
Wondering about the possible future reality of a real space battle like the one that happened in EVE Online seems a bit of a stretch imo :D
No it isn't. Larger and far more bloody battles happened due to lore. Also, if those were fully mortal crews, that number would have been in the billions.....
Hi.
Spacecraft dont even need humans to fly as of today, so what they hell are they talking about when they say "casualties"?
That is awesome! :O
It's not that hard. a kid can play it. If you know how to multiply and stuff, it becomes easy.
Godin The Killer Yeah, I was exaggerating a little haha. I just don't want to take the time to learn it at this point.
Well, I learned how to play in a week (actual game time was about 5-10 hours.). Seriously not that hard.
How come you didn't do Mass Effect?
Goddamn Eve Online looks fucking badass!
What about using water for propulsion (Lox, liquid hydrogen)?
Well, water is used as fuel for POS's. Well, not drinkable water, but water.
Anyone filmed the whole battle ?
yeah there was a few Stream on the battle trought twicht so you can probably find video on youtube of it in a accelerated version of it
alright, thank you
i admit it's a very cool game, but the time and learning curve is too great for me. No time.
Man I wished i lived in the future.
why does planetary resource's logo look like the death star
Wasn’t it 7500 players? Or is that with multiple accounts for the same person
WOT has many more players.
Poor little venture little does it know a BRAVE talwar fleet is 1 jump out 7o

Man that lagged the shit out of my game I wanted to cry when I got disconnected it was epic but real slow
Do you mean it was slow because you lagged? Because they use time dilation and slow everything down to cope with stress on the server anyway, unless you mean system performance.
B-r5 isnt a region it is one system
you know you are early when theres no comments yet

Did they not find a random asteroid in space that has like 11 billion or 11 trillion U.S dollars worth in platinum....correct me if I'm wrong?

Do a video about ODIN from COD: Ghosts
No

All about star citizen
Ummm I was trying to really get into what Cam was saying but I was slightly distracted....he's hot!!!
Why can't we take water from Neptune it's completely made of water
5 times $5000 is $25000, not $20000
You talk alot about science, but what about Kerbal Space Program, a game grounded in rocket science?
sixth!
That's a lot of unpaid spreadsheet work
or it's just unpopular

Ryan Stephens Haha nevermind then, my understanding of humor gets the better of me more often than not here on Text-Tube :P!
lol
Seeing as how all the ships in the battle were piloted by capsuleers, the death toll should be considerably lower, as capsuleers can't 'die'
this is why i didnt play eve online beecus this happends too many times that gives u bullshit death..i wouldt never use mounth too train how to fly a marchine ina game lol wtf
