I used to milk a family cow as a child, there were 9 children in my family, and we all pitched in and helped with everything, we had chickens , horses, goat's, pigs and a family cow or 2 for milk and butter and cheese, we raised a big garden. The reason for having 2 cows so we can milk one while the other one is dry. Such happy days. I milk for a jersey dairy that milks 300 cows with machines now. I long for the simpler days again, and your videos are an inspiration to me!! Someday again......... thanks for posting

I am surprised that fresh milk has helped your health so much and another farm woman, Patara Marlow of Appalachia Homestead! My middle son was in the Gulf War and is allergic to cow's milk and some other things now, so I am going to raise dairy sheep; he loves their milk. I can almost smell the grass and feel the sun as I watch your videos!

To avoid mastitis dont use a towel to clean the udder, use plain warm water. do not apply the jelly before milking do it after milking. milk collects smells from the surrounding avoid perfumes. otherwise love it love it love it

Lovely!! I enjoy your videos very much. I've kept Jersey 4 years now and love the breed. I started with a mature cow. She had 2 bad quarters, and later found out she had a mummy calf. She was very gentle and sweet. 2 years ago we bought 2 heifers and my first one calved last weekend and blessed us with a girl! We bought a calf today to help keep up with her milk output, wow! 700lb heifer 4 gallons of milk a day. Our new bull Angus/Jersey cross (calf) we bought today imprinted on her quite well. My 2nd girl is due to calve any day from the same farm. I have learned to go through my vet, he is strictly a dairy cow Veterinarian for new heifers.
Hand milking cows will give anyone a good grip. Years ago I milked by hand for my uncle. He had some cows that he didn't break to mechanical milkers. I don't know why. That's just the way he was. I didn't understand a word of the song you sang but it was very catchy and pleasing to the ear.
I used to milk my cows in my younger days. The most annoying part of the milking is to resist the tendency of the cow to kick while milking. Meanwhile the most satisfying part is to watch the jar gets filled up while milking.

tell me one thing is it necessary to put that ghee on that udder? and why don't you put that hydrogen peroxide which farms usually put on the udder to remove bectaria? is that important too or we can just wash our cow with tap water? and secondly in winters or summers should we wash our cows with any cold or hot water or it does impact on cow's health? thanks
Dear friend - thanks for your question. Actually I do not use ghee anymore - and I do not even wash the udder - unless it is actually really dirty. I just rub all over it to make sure nothing goes into the bucket and then I press out the first milk. I think this is the most healthy for the cow. In case the teets are dry I rub them - maybe with urine - which is very good for the skin - and or - rub a mix of tallow and olive oil with some essential oils. I just have a jar ready for that. Imagine I have just seen your beautiful video yesterday. I really admire, specifically when I belong to a maternal family from a beautiful village side. Though you have a beautiful “Landwirtschaft”, very sensible cow and a pair of sheeps but I wish you should have more and more beautiful buffaloes, cows and lamb animals and their breed. We really pay due attentions to a beautiful people, their languages and accent, their voice for nature and its importance for all. Particularly in such an attractive and lovable and humble way.
