    Looking for recommendations here... Our family goes out once a year for scalloping. For the past three (3) years, we have ten (10) people and spend approx. five hours out on the water. Unfortunately each year, we simply can't hit the scallops. This year, we collected seven (7) total! ... other folks are bringing up bags full, maxing out (ten gallons) within an hour of hitting the water. We've tried scalloping out of Steinhatchee and Crystal River twice. I've taken/followed as much advice as possible, stick to shallow waters, we've been through 3ft - 6ft., sandy/grass mix, tall grass, short grass, looking for the sand/grass edge--go north from these locations, south from these locations, follow the boats. Of course, we enjoy being out and trying our best and we do have fun, however, I really want to show them the experience of bringup home buckets of scallops. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

      You're definitely in the right areas for scallops, so my guess is that you all just aren't seeing them. You might consider hiring a guide to take you out and they can help you on what to look for, how to see them, etc.

      Great question! Make sure to ask this over on the actual blog or in the Community (www.saltstrong.com/) where the coaches spend their time. The blog can be found here:

    If I were not so afraid of sharks 🦈 I would snorkel 🤿 and hunt for scallops. I really love the ocean 🌊 and desire to explore it in many different ways but my fear of sharks 🦈 keeps me from doing something I want to do so much. I know the chances of a shark attack is low, but I do not want to take a chance of being attacked by a shark 🦈. Sharks are probably my biggest fear in life. I’m intrigued by them yet terrified of them. I will only swim in clear ocean water which is why I always go to the Florida/Alabama panhandle. Even in that clear water I will not swim over neck deep around 4 1/2 feet. I still fear sharks that deep but not sure why my fear of sharks doesn’t keep me from swimming 4 1/2 feet deep but allow that fear to keep me from snorkeling 🤿 and kayaking deeper.

    Do you ever see a shark?

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's very possible. Last year around Keaton Beach, Florida, a girl was bitten by a shark while scalloping and lost her leg.
