The new Smith and Wesson revolvers do not have a transfer bar. They still have the hammer block system. Yes, I know the firing pin is now floating in the frame and not on the hammer nose, but that does not necessarily mean that a revolver has a transfer bar. Colts have a transfer bar. Rugers have a transfer bar. Taurus have a transfer bar. Smiths do not, they still use the hammer block. Here is the difference- Transfer bar has to be IN the way for the gun to fire. Hammer block has to be OUT of the way for the gun to fire. If you look into this, you will see what I mean. Thanks.

Scott Spencer yea, but as a gunsmith we can take care out it in one tenth the time it would take for them to do it. And there's no chance of them fucking it up a second time. Definitely not a job for a non gunsmith though unless you like fliers.

    • @handiediver

I don't understand the new K frames. It looks like the barrel is a separate piece from the shroud, yet still not under tension. I think I like the old ones better.

handiediver its a two piece barrel like all their revolvers now maybe because it's cheaper? not sure why they did that

    • @patmancrowley8509
      @patmancrowley8509 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

I too would have sent it back. Quality Control is something that the armorer is supposed to be practicing and if he's not catching something this critical then what else is getting by him? I sent my Ruger Redhawk back even before firing it for the first time because the trigger assembly pin would not release for takedown.

    A framelock ? No thanks.....
Not to mention, the jacked up barrel crown. I like S&W products generally, but with the premium they charge over some competitors- the gun needs to be squared away.
I liked the fact that Eric was honest/up front about the issue.

Round butts are more versatile for consumers because you can put either round or square grips on it. The other way around you're screwed if you have smaller hands and have to deal with a square butt.

I bought a SW model 60 357 and the barrel was canted to the left and the front sight was off and further inspection of the revolver where the barrel screw into the body there were burrs on the left and right of the barrel. Looks like Smith and Wesson would've count all the flaws during QC inspection. But I sent it back to SW and it's in the repair shop right now, which I hope they fix it and not send it back and say the canted barrel is ok, because I've communicated with well over 10 people and they said the older smith's were built and the QC on them were flawless and it has been the last 5 yrs the QC job is lacking.

my 686 plus 6" bbl. came with a canted barrel. i don't know how S&W can let these $750.00- $1,200.00 revolvers get past their Q.C. unless they don't care ? they did index the barrel correct. also put on a new cylinder cause 2 chamber's stuck the spent cases ? wtf ? these are not cheap wheel guns too ? last 10 yr.'s or so had to send back several firearms back to them. even some back to Ruger ?

I like the K frame personally. the J is just too small for a fella like me. The recoil didnt look too bad as you was firing. I might have to buy a new one since they came back with it. Btw i like the speed loaders. It makes it so much better when target shooting.

  • @jenovaloz3108

The pre lock pre 2001 revolvers had good quality control. The newer Smith & Wesson revolvers are suffering poor quality control and using cheaper quality materials. The spray painted finish is used for corrosion resistance. I prefer the old stainless look. You can polish it to a mirror finish.

That is actually optional for the user to use is Smith's way of saying " I support more gun control"? lol. on another note, I have heard all the hearsay of people having issues with the guns actually locking up or something because of it, but it must not be super common or there would be a class action lawsuit agaisnt s&w about it, hell or even a recall on them.

IDeO, I challenge you to find a 3" Model 66 or Model 19 that is in "nice" condition for less than $850 and post a link here. Obviously the vintage Smiths are leaps and bounds better than the new ones in every way (I own a 19-2 and a FBI Model 13), but you pay for it. Also the 3" Model 66/Model 19 is very desirable because it has a full length ejector rod and a short barrel. The 2.75 Model 66 also has a full length ejector, and is the main reason I am thinking about picking one up for concealed carry. The burr on the muzzle is unacceptable and makes me worry about the quality of these guns.

It is really nice of S&W to continue to ship product that does not pass their own quality control standards. Colt's decision to reenter the DA revolver business is going to be easier knowing S&W is not concerned with their quality. The consumer is pretty much expected to return their new S&W to the factory for things like getting the barrel turned so the sight is not canted and now to get the machining burs in the barrel removed. The problem is, that is why you save 50% and by a Taurus instead of a S&W.
Thanks for doing the video and sharing.

Fit and finish is important. You can program a machine to make the frame. It still takes a human hand to finish something that I would trust my life with.

I learned to shoot with a S&W 686 in it the late 80,s and now I'm teaching my kids and wife of 30 plus years to shoot with this model 66. Great video as usual. Thanks much.

even after all this time I still hear "this is Eric and Berry" at the beginning of every video even though it has not been said in a long time.

Logan Waltz if they brought them back it wouldn't be as much. Probably $1000 to $1200

they are bringing them back. they already brought back the cobra and said that they plan to bring back others including the python. it probably won't be hand finished like it used to be so it'll be a lot cheaper than the classics.

I never stated it wasnt worth it. Just that it was an exspensive gun to suggest purchasing.

Logan Waltz they won't make them by hand I'm assuming and will leave that to a machine.

All these Gun Channels try to mimic Hickok45. That's ok though because this was a fun Video. This Man does know his shit! I do miss Barry.

Literally just loaded the cylinder "cowboy mess" style. Thanks for the info, I will make sure to adjust and build the proper loading technique into a habit.

An awesome video for a great revolver! Sure she may not shoot as well for some as others. Yet practice does help. I love a revolver for the simplicity for concealed carry. Great review guys. Thank you so much!
