Congratulations to UMSC on celebrating the Silver Jubilee, a testament to 25 years of excellence. However, amidst the celebrations, it's crucial to address the welfare of our medical lecturers. Despite their unwavering commitment, these dedicated professionals face an uphill battle, especially those working tirelessly at both UMMC and UMSC. Their clinical work, which contributes minimally to the KPI, is just the tip of the iceberg. They also shoulder the responsibility of teaching and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research mode students, including nurturing clinical master future specialists, all while securing external grants due to dwindling university and ministry funding. Once a significant measure, the pursuit of University Rankings by the University Malaysia's Board of Directors has become less relevant, a shift echoed by Harvard Law School, Harvard Medical School, and other Ivy League Universities like Yale University, Princeton University, Columbia University, and the University of Pennsylvania. Therefore, reassessing these standards is essential to prevent exacerbating the brain drain situation. As we celebrate this milestone, let's not forget these "soldiers" who have sacrificed their family time and balanced lifestyle for the UM Health Megaproject. Their welfare must be adequately prioritized. Thank you, UMSC, and here's to a fairer future. #UMSC #UMSCSilverJubilee #UMHealthMegaproject #UMMedicalLecturerWellfare #WorkLifeBalance #BranDrain
