What a lot of snarky people there are today. It just shows how small peoples attention spans are and how little they understand about the work that goes into making content. This is a different video filmed on a completely different day to the first monkfish video published 1 month ago. Be grateful, be nice or do not comment. It’s that simple. 👍🏻
Don’t let them bother you mate… The videos you make and share are hugely uplifting and a welcome distraction to everyday life. Sincerely appreciate what you do, keep up the great work. Matt
That was ALOT of hard work for the day. I couldn't imagine doing that everyday... But the variety is great!! Tangles.... not so much. I know Mikey was glad to have your help John.
I at first thought it was a repeat of the earlier Monkfish episode. The point is it’s a different video about ‘a day in the life’ of a commercial fisherman. Yes it’s Ground Hog day in that the graft needed to catch the ‘catch’ is never commensurate with the reward. Ignore the ill informed. I find it fascinating. 👏👏
A great day, I really enjoy these commercial fishing videos. It's amazing how selective those nets are, very few under weight or undesirable species. A huge thanks to Mikey for letting us tag along.
Patience is a virtue to take the catch out of the net it's hard graft for fishermen they deserve every penny they make God bless you all and all who sail nice 1 Johnny thanks for the video 😊😊
LOVED this posting! Diverse seafood species really made it interesting. How nice someone has made a machine to help keep nets in check. Now it would be nice for someone to invent how to release the catch easier and faster. Thanks for taking us along and thanks to the Captain for allowing it.
John, I know it's counterproductive but we folks like to have our 'cake' and eat it too occasionally. Saw today's posting (Sunday 11 June '23) and I enjoyed it too. Two nice pollacks to take home. Gave it a thumbs-up 👍 it was fine fishing as you stated. Did I miss the posting with Jim cooking up the Monkfish cheeks? I've had halibut cheeks and they are a 'treat'. My best to the familyand hello from the states!
i absoloutly love monkfish (both to eat and as an animal) and i have to admit, these videos on commercial fishing are really interesting stuff. thank you very much!
The editing makes it looks easy, and for someone who has only caught cod ,mackerel and pollock by rod from a boat in the firth of fourth I am envious of your day out .
Im in the US and never knew you had such a variety of sport fish to catch in the UK !!!! I love the shows you come up with !!! Its pure fishing , no loud unappreciated music , just fishing !!!! There are NOT many people I like to fish with but if I ever had the chance , it would be FANTASTIC to fish with you !!! I catch alott of fish here but there is also ALOT of compitition with other people !! Keep the shows coming !!!!! There great !!!!!
Just keep them coming John. These commercial fishing trips are really interesting no matter how many times you go out even on the same boat. Each trip is different and VERY INTERESTING. Just ignore the knockers. Yours is one of the best TH-cam channels and you deserve the success and any reward it brings.
Loved both of the monk commercial videos mate you explain everything well.. Always wondered how they were targetted im glad they arn't all pulled up by the dredges.
Thank you John and Mikey for another glimpse into the hard work that's put into putting fish on our tables. I absolutely love watching these. Sending you health and happiness to both your familes.
I am a video producer in North Carolina and I have fished since the early 1970's. This is one of the best, most realistic commercial fishing videos I have ever watched in your part of the world. I was guessing you were around the English Channel. Here off the NC coast, there is a small fleet of bottom fishing boats that fish on the NC continental drop, about 50 miles offshore, 300 - 400 feet of water for snapper, trigger fish, grouper and many others. Your video reminds me of that deep drop trip. If you guys made 10 hours of content, I would watch all of it!
This is my new favorite style of video you make, seeing how these different commercial fishermen do their work is so interesting and educational, I could watch them for hours!
Great video! That second net seemed very productive. I couldn't believe the size of those crabs! Removing everything from the net looks like hard work. Does Mikey usually do everything by himself?
Brilliant once again - no two days are the same and you're right - sun-up is the best time of day. I was on holiday last week in Pontllyfni and watched a fisherman hauling his pots like you do. I saw him keep a few lobsters but was throwing nearly everything else back, mostly spider crab I think...some were huge! It was still fascinating just to see what came up. Thanks 😄
I can't believe you guys don't get seasick. You really did pick the right occupation. I was getting ill just watching the boat rock :D Another great video
An absolutely brilliant video,👏 showing how hardworking, and respectful this fisherman is.😲😀 He deserves respect and admiration, and every penny he earns.🫡🫡 Thank you for showing these videos.👍 You have a brilliant channel.👏❤️ Take care and stay safe.😷
Very fun and interesting to watch! I love seeing the process and that nothing goes to waste. Gives an appreciation for the work that goes into the seafood that we eat!
I spent some time on the commercial boats in Alaska catching sockeye salmon and i have to say its noce to see a true to life video about how commercial fishing actually goes! Another great video!
John I was thinking how a hauler would help you, but you read my mind and said you don’t need or want one.. that’s funny. Thanks for another great video
Great video John I am really enjoying these commercial fishing trips those crabs were unbelievable one of those would feed me for a week , keep them coming and thank Mikey.
@@TheFishLocker Hey John are you uploading today, as I have to go out, heat is extremely high here, and Cicadas going crazy, just don't want to miss it!
Another very educational video John, fascinating the way Mikey cuts the claw tendons.. never seen that before. This vid goes a long way to show how much hard work goes into putting fish on our tables... Thanks for the upload John.
These are really interesting videos John. It would be useful to understand the minimum landing sizes for the monk and bycatch (you're using gauges on the shellfish and you mentioned a limit re the small ling) and the difference in rules within the 6 mile limit and outside it.
Absolutely loved it, reminded me of the TV show How it's made. I love to find out how much work goes into the end product. Well done John for all the hard work 👍
i remember watching you a bunch during covid lockdown - really got me through it. i’m glad to see you’re still getting the recognition you deserve. cheers to you & keep it up!
Great video john as ever Thats where i work the Helford passage My boat is on the swing moorings Missed you again I like the idea of you showing the public that commercial fishing is not kill everything and damage the sea bed gill netting as you know is very selective with almost no dead by catch thrown back Well done john keep these coming 👏🏻 👍 😊
This trip and video saw 1 single dogfish thrown back dead - Crabs had had it. Show me any form off commercial fishing that is more sustainable than that?!
Thank you John for all your videos. It is really interesting to see how commercial fishermen work although I especially love seeing your videos hauling in your crab pots by hand; fishing; foraging and of course Spargo's Kitchen!!! Love you and your family!
Really makes me appreciate the food on my plate. Whether it's fish or meat or veggies. The effort people go to to give you your daily food is amazing. I totally understand why years ago it was common to say grace at the table to thank them, even though it was aimed at some entity. Thanks John.
Awesome video again John a nice mixed catch ,looking forward 2 the next 1 .,the weather here is cold very cold the wind would blow a dog of a chain. Happy catching from AUSTRALIA Nick

Found out something cool today. Glowsticks attract fish, or the light of it does. Fastened one to my line and the fish would not stop biting caught some giant pollocks👍😁
The size of those edible crabs were massive, thanks John for another great trip in your mates boat, Mikey is a real sport to let you come along, you can tell he is a real professional, we used to call Monk fish poor mans Scampi, now we just call it Scampi or rather the chip shops do and charge you a packet for it, would love to see Jim cook some of those monster edibles, if he has a pot big enough.

As I already said , definitely not a repeat. We got to see the hard work for the prep… I found it fascinating 🧐. Good luck and God . R
A great day, I really enjoy these commercial fishing videos. It's amazing how selective those nets are, very few under weight or undesirable species. A huge thanks to Mikey for letting us tag along.
The only things that this net caught that were undersized was crabs and they can be unpicked and returned to the sea alive. 👍🏻🦀
