Yes it's available at Train Video Depot. Do a search and you'll find it easily. We sell train related videos from about 30 different producers. I don't know how they got access on this one. But it is one of our best selling cab ride DVD's.
Wow,, I loved that. thanks. I would love to have that job. I hope you are paid well, that is a lot of responsibility, but something very few people get to do. Love to see more
The display is Amtrak's latest attempt at a "Head's Up Display"; which is how I saw it. As for the video, it is shown in real time, and was produced in the cab of an Amtrak Diesel, on the route from Los Angeles to San Diego.
The Automatic Bell that sounds off when he blows the horn. He has the option of turning it off if he wants but he's not doing it because of the highly populated area he's in. Basically so people hear the train coming.
Fun, At San Juan Capistrano it heads west and goes along the beach for a number of miles. But then goes inland to San Diego. Fun ride. "clacking sound" is poor audio of the bell being rung through the beach area.
Im guessing, but my own railroad experience tells me its not the track condition that warrants that speed. Ever been over the San Diego sub? That segment you just watched goes right down the beach, lots of pedestrian traffic of beach goers, joggers, etc that are unbelievably oblivious to the railroad.
It *is* the locomotive. There is a complete tour of the locomotive in the extras section (including the toilet in the nose!) , and also some other scenes while running where the camera is further back in the cab. It is clearly the cab of the F59PHI. I believe the guy that shot this worked for Amtrak.
+Chris' model train reviews This was a professional dvd done by a company called train video depot that made arrangements with Amtrak to shoot the film. I believe most or all of the route is on the actual dvd.
+Tim Alcoser This DVD was Produced by Facing Point Media who also Produced The Pacific Surfliner Add-on for Microsoft Train Simulator back in 2005 which is 10 years ago.
Ok, nice to know. :-) We started putting down concrete ties in the 80's/90's, and by now they have all been changed, exept some sections in stations, which are pretty rotten. I guess it comes down to the climate. We have warm summers (usually 20-25 C) and could winters (usually -5 to -15C), with varying amounts of show. In the fall it also rains a lot. :-)
The norwegian climate, landscape and scenery is very different from the countries you often think about as Europe ( GB, Germany, France etc). The best comparison for mid, eastern and southern Norway is canadian BC, and western and northern is what you get if you google Norway. The northernmost county, Finnmark, is a bit like northern Alaska. So a great diversity within the country there. Its mainly because of the Mexico-gulf and that it is as long north-south as the US west coast. :-D
Well, Norway isn't the best known country in Europe. George W. Bush once called it the capital of Sweden (most europeans don't like him very much). And these facts are very country-specific. What part of the US do you live in?
I watched this same video when I was 4 and I’m so happy it’s still on here nine years later
Los Angeles-San Diego is my favorite train route. Thank you for posting this video, and giving us the experience of riding in the cab.
@tmotorman the surfline route to LA to San Diego is the old Santa Fe line, heading NORTH is the old SP line
I got this DVD back in 2013 and this was the view as it was in mid-2005. Quite a lot has changed on the Surfline since then.
Yes, Surfliner now all SC-44s
Boy, I wish this Awesome Cabride Video could be Streaming on Netflix or Amazon's Prime Instant Video sometime in The Future.

Rode this line back in 1998 when it was still the San Diegans, still awesome :)
Great video! Great view! Awesome route along the Pacific Ocean too! That's gotta be one of the best Amtrak routes in the country! :)

man the engineers on this line must be on the edge of their seat with all the people crossing wereever they feel like!
Very nice video.
Great video
Oh. Not sure, but there is a tour of the entire locomotive, and that is of #462.
Nice video!
I know this is 457 in 2005-2006
Excellent showing of the Pacific Surfline! (former Southern Pacific territory)
Wouldn't mind working that job every day. Surf's Up!
PJH- Tunnelmotor
Yes this was shot from the cab of an F59PHI
I have got to get a ride on train! WOW!!!!!!!
At 2:05, that;s where I got my video of the RBBB circus train going north to LA
Man, if there's ever a major tsunami in that area that train is SCREWED!!!
LOL!
Im guessing, but my own railroad experience tells me its not the track condition that warrants that speed. Ever been over the San Diego sub? @Trainhobby98 Well spotted it does sound like the 66
wow thats cool
LOL this route gonna be released for rail simulator 2014 !!
I now have a good idea of the view my boyfriend sees when he runs his train he runs the sunset limited out of El Paso TX
Cool!
what's with all the bell and horn, i only saw one grade crossing
How did you get this footage? I want to do something like this but for SLO all the way to San Diego.
+Mountain Mike That's really cool! Good luck with that, I would watch that.
Which one of the 15 engines was this filmed in?
I think It was 455.
463.
463
rip 59s
One Question: How These Guys Place The Video Camera in The Front Middle Part in The Cab of The F59PHI Locomotive?
I don't think it is an F59PHI I think it is the so called "cabbage" (cab/baggage/coach) ca
It *is* the locomotive. There is a complete tour of the locomotive in the extras section (including the toilet in the nose!) , and also some other scenes while running where the camera is further back in the cab. It is clearly the cab of the F59PHI. I believe the guy that shot this worked for Amtrak.
oh ok cause I thought it was the cab/coach car cause of the bell
This was back before all F59's except 462 had their bells replaced with E-bells. So each bell sounded different some like cabbage bells
What?! Is this a game or is this real life (because of the numbers in the display)...
does the water ever reach the tracks during big storms?
jimmygt4 nah
jimmygt4 mainly because we don’t get big storms
Do you know what engine this was recorded in?
I think it was Amtrak EMD F59PHI # 463.
463, 462, 459, and current 2116 were and is my favorite
i wish it was
40 mph/kmh?
Actually, I meant the number, sorry.
dash cam?
The Bell.
how did you get a cab ride?

I couldn't agree more!!
California is in Stone age, sadly... when it comes to railroads.
However, it's good we at least have something :)
Why do they still use wooden sleepers in the US?
some places they use concrete, bit also some of these are composite mixtures of wood and hard plastic type material
In Norway, all rail lines have concrete sleepers
Ok, nice to know. :-)

how much is the dvd?
that sounds like either 452 or 455.
This was 463.
2:07 EMD throttle up song....
2018?
2021
@@chowman550 2022
Fake voices?
The camera should have been better shock mounted ot mounted on gyro stabilizer.
5 stars but what is that annoying metallic clacking sound?
Arpeggio2007that would be an EMD steel bell being heard throughout the entire vid
Hmm, I wonder if this is the video I paid for but never received because the company went bankrupt...
That constant CLANKING really ruins the peacefulness of such a ride.
I would have put music to the vid instead. That would help.
That's the bell, it is annoying but it's needed especially along the beach where people are playing and running.
I understand it's occasional necessity, but if I were the engineer it would be like the Chinese water torcher. :-)
It's the locomotive bell to warn pedestrians
+John Larson To each his own. Music to my ears.
wow awsweef
