We need more people like you. You had your tuna for dinner and that was enough theirs about 1% of people that would’ve let that big mutton go. Glad to see some people care about the fishery as much as I do.
Liked this video before I even watched it their is a difference between you tubers that fish to make money and fisherman that do TH-cam to teach.

Key West Waterman Oh i hear ya, but if/when you finally get one you'll be kicking yourself for not getting it sooner. Think of all the gas and time saved! Lol. Probably a different beast down there though, may not have as many situations to use it as we do up here around Tampa area.

🐠I’m thinking that one of the strange FWC rules does not allow you to keep that fish that got sharked. The fish was obviously of legal length but because it’s impossible to measure it I believe they say you cannot keep it. Correct? Thx
you are correct, if what's left of the fish is not of legal length you have to throw it back or it is a violation. however in this circumstance the remaining portion of that snapper was still 18". I took a photo of it to be safe!

I didnt cover it because it varies based on current. on average fishing about 3-4 oz this day

Shimano trevala TVC-66mh been fishing them for a while really life em. great for muttons and smaller grouper, even live bait for wahoo and kings with the same set up
Maybe the shark that got the Almaco that "went straight back down" followed you and whacked that snapper?
I ran about 4 miles between spots! so I doubt it!

A shark cut a giant Permit I hooked at the Marquesas in half like it was a dorito. Get on the Permit there on the flats this time of the year. What's up with that boat that was stuck at the Marquesas?
happens all the time! and honestly idk I don't fish for permit ever. not sure didn't hear anything about it!

golden tile fish and probably black belly rose fish. really hard to answer that question depends what im craving! haha

not sure exactly what you mean by dry chum. I thaw chum and mix it with sand majority of the time. that or frozen
@@KeyWestWaterman oh ok, thank you. I was talking about using the purina tropical fish food mixed with salt water. I’ve heard it referred to as dry chum.

I am starting my journey to book a charter with you and then a cooking experience with Will and a sunset paddle board trip with your fiance Madeleine I am a fan of all three of yall. Since I am have not swam in a while I am getting in the pool 2 times a week with my mask and snorkel from August to end of January 2024. I am also 59 years old and want to experience what yall do daily. I will get ready for this. To build up my swimming stamina and just get in better shape. i will video my training. Then before Christmas I will get your Dibs on bottom website and book my adventure for late February 2024 or early March 2024. I plan on being in Key West for 5 days. Likely just me and my dog Jay. In between now and then. I will prepare for this trip. I really enjoy watching and learning about fishing in the ocean and safety while doing it. I have much respect for you and your family there. I look forward to the next six months and then the trip. Respectfully Matt

May just be me, but i find having the clicker on the whole fight a bit much. Coming from a guy who watches too many fishing vids if there is such a thing. The subtle whine of the drag is where its at imo. Great vid as always! tally ho
I turned it on so people could hear when i'm gaining line and when i'm losing. as a charter captain one of the biggest mistakes I see customers make is reeling when the fish is taking drag. but I agree I probably left it on longer than I should have. was attempting to teach less avid fishermen and women how to properly fight a fish!

Why is such long leaders necessary?
I've caught them with less but have really good luck with long leaders, i'm assuming it makes the bait seem more natural
