Would one of those large victor rat snap traps not work? I had a chipmunk in my walls and one of those traps made quick work of it. Are squirrels just too big for them?
@@brandonboogers yes unless it was a very young squirrel, plus their vertebrae are thicker than a rat's. The victor would stun a large squirrel and maybe give it a nose bleed and a headache, but I doubt it would kill it.
@geochsmi I would recommend a Forestry Suppliers Tube Trap Squirrel Trap (Rust-Resistant) sold on Amazon. I had the same problem with squirrels. I bought that tube trap and completely eliminated the squirrel problem. I had also tried the A18 trap but eastern gray squirrels are too cautious and will not stick their head in it, so that's when I bought the tube trap. Obviously, trap the squirrels outside as they will almost never enter a trap inside the attic.
I am so in awe with all the different mousetraps and techniques that exist. I wonder if Davinci or Ben Franklin ever came up with a brilliant rat / mouse contraption. Very cool hobby.
Have you ever considered doing something with the pelts of the animals? Squirrel fur for example is used in watercolor brushes where they are prized for their absorbency, moleskin is used in fine gloves, raccoons were used for hats/coats, etc. You could still feed the carcasses to wild animals, they'd probably even prefer it without the fur in the way.
Those without mouse and rat problems complain about those having them and dealing with them; food just don't pop into existence on supermarket shelves.
