- Thanks to our friends at Sony Music Australia, Spotlight Report had the chance to have chat to the insanely talented Matt Healy and George Daniel of The 1975.
Last time we spoke, it was their first visit to Australia as a band and we introduced their music to Aussie audiences. This time we caught up with them about their rapid success in Australia ahead of their sold out Sydney show at The Enmore Theatre.
The boys talked about their high school lives and how it impacted their music, being compared to the Jonas Brothers, and their biggest pet peeves. One thing lead to another and lead singer Matt Healy has given himself a new nickname (C)at (D)ealy - see why here! - บันเทิง

I personally love it how Matty always takes control of the interview and takes no shits from anyone. With that said these interviewers need to start asking questions that legit keep Matty's attention and focus. Feel like they need to stay away from asking too many repeated questions and questions regarding fanbase under 18. I'm 25 and honestly get tired of hearing the band explained the whole teenage fangirling obsession in almost every interview. Fans should let the band grow and take its course as it should.
I think youre being too over critical. As someone who has seen all their interviews, I can say most of these were not repeated questions. Also you must realize that an interviewer can only ask so many questions without crossing the line...I thought this interview was great. Matty is just Matty...I think he comes across as impatient to be funny. See how he snapped at George for mumbling. ..I think that is his way of being funny and in control.
Okay for your information, I really don't appreciate that you practically said they should disregard the fans that are under 18. I'm 16 and I'm not a complete fucking idiot like everyone seems to make us out to be. I know some of them are but people really need to stop basing the entire below 18 fan base on a few idiots. There's a lot of things that I'd kill to ask, things that aren't repetitive, and things that have personal meaning behind them. So please just stop acting like we're all stupid fangirls. Thank you.

I agree. I am 20 and I accept the fact that their 18 and under fan base practically made them. I saw them last fall and most of the girls there were in high shcool. It is just something the boys and "older" fans will have to accept.
I didnt write my comment to get a negative reaction from anybody and I never said I didn't like the interview, because I actually enjoyed it very much. I personally wasn't even literally bashing the lovely young girl in this interview. I was making a broad statement to which I personally think that they have been asked the same question in the last 2yrs. I've seen them numerous times since they started touring in the US and just did a meet and greet with them for the first time yesterday here in Chicago and I simply belief that the crowd in their shows are changing and people are getting more interested in a more philosophic way in which Matty thinks in regards to certain situations. Also, I'm not bashing on the below 18 fan base. Both my sisters are 13 and 16 and they have invested on this band as much as I have.What I meant by in my comment regarding the fangirling obsession is that every time they answer questions about it, Matty gives the rationale he gave in this interview. Also obviously the band owes a lot of its success to the younger fans, I mean that's the kind of way the music business has always worked. I've always been a band type of person and understand this logic. So sorry if my comment came across in a different way, because all I was getting across is that The 1975 has evolved and made a lot of progression in the last 2yrs and for that very same reason fans and interviewers need to move past the typical question or at least just get a bit creative. That is all my comment was about. It wasn't about younger fans vs. older fans, because as I already mentioned my two younger sisters and I have invested the same amount of passion for the guys and the band and we have a huge age gap. My comment was simply on the growth of the band. :D

I just love how they aren't bothered by the media or the press or really rumours in general. I love how Matt gets frustrated in the process of trying to explain.

ikr! I wonder how you maintain any relationships outside the band ya kno?u cant rly have a pet, a gf..not rly. The band is num 1 thing in ur life at that point. Its almost like you miss out on life. if youre constantly traveling,never at home. all the parties, weddings, get-togethers, events etc they have to miss it. i would imagine you can grow estranged from ppl- ppl u were once supa close wit. sorta sad. i would hate it.
