Big reminders of my own first bit of solo backpacking as a grand old lady of 50.
I was also on a budget, picnicking during the day so I could have a proper meal (with a beer or 4) at night.
I tried too hard to see everything, walked too far, stayed in some good and some not so good hostels but I had a brilliant time and though I too am a bit of an introvert, I surprised myself by chatting to complete strangers.
Hope you had The Best time and next time, try to get yourself to Brighton by the sea x

The flat cap and neat beard make you look like a native, mate. This is one of the best British travel podcast I've come across - honest and down to earth. Imagine, from the age of eight to 13, I woke uo each morning at school with Westminster Abbey part of the day. As a chorister, I took far too much for granted back then.
Really loving the vlogs, and how you've tried to go off the beaten track and embrace the experience. Keep them coming!

6:10 Buckingham Palace.
1. The king is in residence if the Royal Standard is at the mast head.
2. If the Union flag is flying, the king isn't in residence.
The King only uses Buckingham palace for state occasions, as it being done up, The King and Queen live at Clarence House

@@EmbraceTheSuck21 I'm surprised nobody explained the £5 bus pass that you could have used all around London on any bus and as many times as you needed the places that you needed to go guarantee a bus would have taken you there even if it's for just a few stops

Omg, I walked through that area just off Leicester Square every day. I worked on Old Compton St. (place called Rustiko that changed to Laxas around the time I returned to America). But my favorite place in London is the Bill Murray Comedy Club in Angel. Also loved shopping in Camden (I’m not a shopping girl, I’m a girl who grew up near Portland, and Camden is the Portland of London)
Should try whitby and bourton on the water at the cotswolds mate, proper English places to go

It's not the union jack because Buckingham Palace isn't a ship
If the Sovereign is present at Buckingham Palace the Royal Standard is flown from that flagpole on the top...If the Union Jack is flying above Buckingham Palace (as it appears to be) instead of the Standard, the King is not in residence.

lol dude, people say all kinds of shit about the tube, but the reality is that people are often very social in the tube, outside of rush hour. It's quite common for people to just strike a conversation with a random stranger in the tube, it doesn't mean they were trying to rob you or anything like that.
Dude sounded high af, randomly commenting to some total stranger about his hairstyle. Spence handled it well.
As a Londoner, if you tried to chat to me on the tube I’d give you as many one word answers until you got the hint and went away. Yeah. Don’t talk to people on the tube.

For the benefit of other visitors, the other large supermarkets also do meal deals and many other stores. I even got one in Limerick.

Love the vlogs and the content, one thing I would say as an Englishman is that we do call it a ponytail I don't know if it's the same in the USA? Apart from that love it keep doing these vlogs maybe going to other places in the future, a great addition to the channel ❤
I think this trip has been awesome, it is and isnt easy travelling solo. I think though you would be well served next time by flying into heathrow, and then staying in a budget hotel just outside the city, can be anything like 50-80 quid a night. Then just hire a car - you can reach a HUGE area in just an hour or two driving, and it will serve you far better than the extortionate trains and once a day buses.
Spencer you know exactly where to go and what to do,I hope you are taking pics to show Daniel when you get back home.

Regarding the cancelled train from Cardiff, for anyone planning a trip to the UK and using the train while there. If your train is cancelled, by law they are obliged to get you to your destination. Normally this involves allowing you to get the next train or provide a replacement bus service, even if your train is the last train of the day. You may also be able to claim compensation for a delayed or cancelled train. This is outlined in the National Rail Conditions of Travel, available on the National Rail website.
This is true. Back in 2001 there was a landslide at Fenny Compton that smothered the rail line and British Rail (or maybe it was still Railtrack?) inundated the stations at Leamington Spa and Banbury with free private taxi services between the two stations. And it's not only England -- I experienced the same treatment with a free replacement bus service in Latvia in 2007.

The south east is more reserved, the farther from London the less reserved. Most folks are pretty down to earth. The farther from London you get the more normal it is for total strangers to chat.
The enthusiasm may seem less, but that's more that, like the sweetness of things here, subtlety rather than volume is appreciated. The folks will be warm hearted even if not grinning on the outside.
You've seen a lot of the comedy so you'll be aware that many areas use siblinglike mild teasing as form of affection.
Long as you enjoy yourself here, it doesn't matter how you enjoy it

The more you travel the more you’ll open up. I left home at 15 to join British army so me and Daniel probably get on well , any way maybe next time take me up on my offer and we’ll go for a pint 👍
Enjoy the sun before you move north. The south east is the only part of the country having a summer this year. Here in the north we had two days of around 20 degree weather and they called it a heatwave. It was 12 degrees the other day when it was 30 last year

The Rockinghsm County Way seems to be freaking out if someone talks to you. By the wsy, on the Tube, people read newspapers and share the free ones around. He was being polite.
