  • Growing time-lapse of an evening primrose plant (Oenothera biennis) from a seed to blooms. We used a 12-inch pot to plant covered with soil for this demonstration. A seedling appeared 1 week after planting. It grew very slow for the first 2 months. The plant then sped up and started to invade the whole container surface. Around the 100th days, lots of buds were developing. Those quickly bloomed into bright yellow flowers and wilted away after a day. As its name, evening primrose flowers only bloom during night time. We had to play a trick by dimming the growing lights to the lowest setting. It was quite challenging to capture those moment, however, it worked perfectly. Evening primrose plant reached about 5ft in height near the end of this video.
To be honest, evening primrose was unexpected and not even in our plan. We were buying seeds for different vines and end up with a bag of this in the shipping box. That's why the trellis was built there initially, and to our surprise when the flowers popping up.
Still, we are happy with the result regardless. Better be careful of buying seeds online next time!

Would they grow in hot climates? Also, is this the same plant as those small pink evening primrose I see in some vids? This look so tall! 🗼🎇

I’ve got one of these growing in my wildflower garden by complete coincidence, I’m sure a bird or squirrel deposited it and it’s just about fully mature with bloom heads about to pop open. Beautiful display, thanks for recording this!
