@@Saytek_live whoa, i wish you the fastest recovery, tons of health to you and your family! Keep jamming, soon covid will go away, and musicians will get all people back together again. Big up from Minsk, music is not forbidden here yet 🎹🥁🎸🎛🎚🎶🎵
I've had the luck of having Saytek as my Ableton instructor. I hope I have the luck to see him live soon, as well. I've always loved his setup, and it is very interesting to see it develop over time.
So nice... but I got a big question about performing live... Do you write patterns on the fly, or you've got them prepared beforehand?... (sorry that's a thing I didn't quite get)... Also, do you improvise the structure of the song or you prepare it... If you jam all the way through, pls HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT IT? WHEN DO YOU THROW A CERTAIN LEAD, OR LOOP, OR DRUM PATTERN, OR EFFECT... Are you all the time counting bars, or not?... WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN YOU ARE IMPROVISING?... Thx so much
Different live artists improvise to a different degree if its more experimental you can improvise more. I like to perform tunes so you will recognise them but they will never be exactly the same twice because everything is arranged lived, all filters are tweaked live every sample is triggered live. Often the arrangements are done on faders and mute buttons of the boxes. But I also create drum parts and synth lines of the fly so there is real time programming involved. Basically if I left the stuff alone the same pattern would play for ever in its current state nothing happens without me making it happen in real time, this means when I can really play to a crowd and change the vibe accordingly the same material could be tracky and deep or it could have loads more big breaks and drops. I can also tease the crowd and watch and wait to drop the kick drum or bassline in when I want. Hope the answers your questions
@@Saytek_live wow... Really, Saytek talking to me??? Thx so much!... Just one more question, when fully improvising, are there certain set of rules, such as in... jazz... Maybe?... Cheers Saytek!!!
Alex FR well I mean depending on how experimental you go rules are there to be broken but its good start to stay in key and quantized of course you don’t even have to do that! Like I said I am about tracks you can recognise and release a lot or my live stuff so my sound isn’t really that experimental so I am more like a conductor and my machines are like the orchestra playing individual parts I have written and I do a little improvisation over the top.
@@Saytek_live ok... so you've already got the songs "arranged" and when it's time for the show you play them as they go, embellishing them here and there... is that correct?
@@Saytek_live sounds amazing! one question - how long are your tracks when you're playing live? Do you go back and forth with motifs throughout the set, or is it more like a DJ, with tracks structured and specific motifs presents that are not revisited when you move on to the next track? The reason I ask is that I (am trying to) improvise fully; no preparation of specific motifs or beats. Instead I practise improvising - I have the most problems creating drop-like transitions. I was messing around with my iPhone the other day, garageband, and I made tracks in an hour. Not very serious tracks but nobody gets points for technique. If people like it great, if not, too bad. We play live because we like to. (Or I do). However what I did like about the iPhone was the FX track which is basically like the Kaoss 3, which is my next acquisition! Thanks and very happy for your success! Sean
I love those chords that you play around the 3:24 mark of the video. Any insight what you used to make them? They're so techy and moving - been wanting to find that sound for ages! Thanks
Hey man great video 🙂if you don’t mind me asking how do you record your tracks? And you mentioned compression on the mixer, I think that’s what I need as I just can’t seem to get the sound levels as I want and it does my head in lol! Do you master your own tracks after recording or have you got all the levels sorted to play live so just leave them as they are? I seem to have to crank up the mids and highs and cut the bass a bit after recording but just can’t find that sweet spot, I’ve got the highs/ mids turned up for the tr8s on the mixer already. I have all my hardware going through a Allen and Heath Zed 22fx then through focusrite 2in 2out on to my Rokit 8’s Sorry for all the questions, those are my only stumbling blocks but bloody annoying ones 😂
Hey I record onto a Zoom H4 and all the tracks are mastered in the same way normal tracks are before release by a mastering engineer normally associated with the label I sign them to.
@@Saytek_live ok cool man thanks for the reply, that’s looks like a nice of kit. That should wave goodbye to random audio drop outs, clicks and pops when recording on to a laptop. So frustrating when I recorded a track the other day and it was full of cracks and pops 🤷🏼♂️
got it sorry i use dj6 for input and djm nexus mixer interface for output on agregate device so all is routed back throu ableton for sidechaine and all that. u just need input interface with allot of ins and the mixer that is in all clubs for outs.
I love "how i play" series...more pls..thx.
:)
its a great series
@Djtechtools... Fake account.
He is so much into this, maybe tired a bit, but still passioned and obssessed like only musicians can be. Know and love your gear,

Had the pleasure of meeting Saytek at the Brighton Music Conference and saw him setting up his legendary hardware rig, the set was absolutely nuts!
Thanks mate :)
My boy! Proper Live Techno Artist!
Thanks :)
@@Saytek_live Oh yes
Personaly, I feeling his energy by Phone inside me. And still, dub soul mechanic by Saytek is one of my favourite track ever.
Thanks for putting these together for us DJTT!
Glad you like them! Cheers to SAYTEK as well for helping make this one happen.
Very interesting and inspiring to see!! Great video!
Inspiring setup, thanks for sharing. I'm surprised you use the Scarlett with a near 4 grand mixer though. When I had a scarlet it failed a few times.
its super stable for me
Oh yes hon the saytek🙌🙌
Thanks :)

Alex FR no they are not arranged they are arranged live but a lot of the patterns are written first.
Just found your channel awesome!!!
Thanks, nice video!!

Thanks :)
Solid!

Where are the kaos pad and RMX in your signal chain? Are they on independent sends on the mixer? Coming back to the 5/6 channels?
On the send and return coming back into returns :)

Hey its a patch from the MC707 played polymetricly and filtered with delay :)
@@Saytek_live cheers mate. I'll dive into it!
Good job awsome setup
Where i can take my controller
cant you get a stable clock from the MC707 ? Erm??
also is the RMX and the KP3+ pretty much does the same kind of effects?
cheers
yes I can have started using it recently
very smart setup! but instead of using a plugin for 303, I'd buy B-ringer td3, a 303 replica, analog synth, hardware, a lot of fun for a 100 eur
Yeah I have heard there are great! :)
@@Saytek_live for the money, it's just a must to grab it!
How do you connect the kaoss pad with the rmx??
I run them in series on the send and return :)
This is a really nice poster on the wall Mr. Saytek :)

yes love that place hopefully I can return soooon :)

77kamper yes mate recording on the computer is not the one unless you are using a dedicated computer for recording with a great audio interface.
No more new videos???
Mid master clock = not fucking around
haha yes!
Abelton and the V10 is all you need
You don't need anything it all about the right tools for you as an artist!
Two turntables and a mixer, apple pro laptop and Serato is all so need
to perform live electronic music? think you have a lot to learn!

The RMX Effects are (for me personal) to harsh and agressive
Its about using them at the right time and place! They are not subtle thats for sure!
