    In my restoration of the 2 '78's,,I spent more time on the calipers than anything else.

    The rear caliper nut.
    Get a 12mm x 1.25mm nut.
    Cut it in half,clamp it above the damaged thread,and screw it off.
    That should repair the damaged section.

    You can block that hole with neoprene and clamp it on , especially on real stuck ones use grease gun on very badly stuck .

    Just give a file with a small triangle file .

    Great video! Really useful. The back brake on my 1976 GL1000 Ltd bike is binding. Any suggestions on how to fix please? Btw, where did you get your Clymer workshop manual?

      Hi and thanks for the comments. The Clymer manual was second hand from ebay. Binding is often caused by a partially seized caliper piston or sometimes a blocked passageway in the master cylinder.

      @@VJMotoResto Many thanks. Thoroughly enjoying your project and learning a great deal - better than any other channel! Looking at the location of the castlenut on the rear axle, is it possible to remove the rear wheel without dropping the exhaust (when changing rear tyre) as I suspect this will all have to come off to service the rear caliper?

      @VJMotoResto  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SuccessShared The rear axle has to be removed to get the caliper off. The wheel should stay roughly in place. Not sure if you have to remove exhausts because my bike didn't have any!

    Regarding the "Check valve" for the master cylinder it isn't listed for the UK version of the GL1000, but it is listed for the US version on CMS. It looks like a domed piece of metal with small holes and a hexagon shaped base?

    • @k1ckyscotland988
      @k1ckyscotland988 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The master cylinder looks exactly like the one on my 78 GL1000.
      Mines had the little dome fitted to the wide end of the internal spring.
      A sort of "click fit".

      Thanks for commenting! I've got a rebuild kit on order which I'm hoping includes the check valve, though as you say it looks like it wasn't required on the UK models? Might have been a regularatory thing?
