My heart is so happy to hear this. ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉 no matter how different the child is, it never means to treat them different. No matter what condition the child has we as parents must give them the best love and care possible. Thankyou for raising him mom and dad!
I used to believe personally speaking, as someone with a mild learning disability, that I wasn't able to go to college, and that it is only something that normally abled people can do. But now I just completed my freshman year at Texas Woman's University in Denton. I believe that Texas Woman's University has a program for those who are more severely disabled than me. Check it out if you're in the north Texas area.
Very inspirational indeed....but it is normal and right that Down Snydrome people accesss higher education. They probably have a lot to teach us about our humanity.
Steve Morse and creativity, different angles, perspective, put of the box thinking because reslly it is all about the journey that teaches us humans. not the end goal.
It's such a good idea to have programs like this. People with Down Syndrome have so much to offer. With a little help, they can make our society a better place!
It’s competitive because even though the people in the program are disabled, they do have to have a certain level of functioning to be accepted. People who are profoundly intellectually disabled and who do not have enough independent skills cannot do the program.
oh what a cool story to hear about because i have the same problem as Ryan and i never went to college because after I graduated from high school me,our parents moved to nh...( even though that does sound kind of cool but now i live in ma w/ our parents in an apt.til our new house is built in taunton,ma)
but that's ok(because then i joined the program called rec-connect) which is a program for people who have a disability do fun stuff on zoom or in person w/ our friends......
Many people with DS can read. It depends on their IQ. Some people with DS have severely low IQs and some people with it have what is called “mild” intellectual disability, so their IQs are in the 60-70 range (where 100 is the average and 70 and below is classified as intellectual disability). Someone with an IQ in like the 30-50 range would not be able to read fluently. Of course, it takes a lot of work and help for anyone with any degree of intellectual disability to learn how to read, but it is possible if they have the potential.
I dont rly like the tone of this interview if im being honest. Microaggressions like “he didnt get the hint” and both the reporter and his parents acting like he cant reach for the stars. Like yes prepare any child of yours for disappointment but dont keep insisting that it wont happen for them… “we kept trying to tell him” like nooo. Thats how ppl in general lose confidence and start 2nd guessing themselves. Im glad he stayed true to himself and believed in himself 💕 many ppl with down syndrome are WAYY more capable than we give them credit for.
People with lea ring disability can go to college too I have 7 college credits reading early childhood Im same job 29 years You can do it pass college life skills

College DOES NOT guarantee success! I don’t have a college degree and I bring to my checking account $1,200/week.. The first step in success is knowing what you’re passionate about and go from there. Who knows maybe you don’t need to spend $60,000 to be successful.
This should be at every university. Absolutely extremely important to have these type of programs.

Seems like such a sweet guy! So inspiring!
Wonderful, keep going brave man.
Can we have an update on him?
The syndrome is down, but the hopes are UP 🔛🔝

🤭🤭😂
Down's Syndrome is only a name!
Glad he gets to go to Clemson, living his dream.
I wonder how it’s highly competitive. Like it couldn’t be that they select the “least disabled”.
LMFAO

Congratulations 🎊 young man..nothing is impossible ❤
i was surprised he could read his college acceptance letter not making fun of him though just suprised
Thats just having common sense its not mean to be surprised about that because thats just reality people like him not getting accepted a lot
It is a disability that effects reading social skills and speech but it seems like it's not a disability and that they are like us
Common misconception. It varies from person to person. Not all people with downs can't read or write
Many people with DS can read. It depends on their IQ.
