@@kgold88 for two years in a row, I met Minnie and Daisy along the walkway from the International Gateway entrance at about 8:45-9:00 am. The lines are relatively short and the experiences were wonderful!
@kgold88 You can also sometimes fine other characters out that way as well throughout the day, so if you don't pop on back there it might be worth your while. We recently saw Pinocchio as well.
I absolutely LOVE the Muppets area in Grand Avenue, but the museum is a great spot to pull off in if you haven't had the chance to check it out yet! It's also worth visiting every time you get the chance, because there are always new exhibits in there that rotate out.
I rope dropped HS in August but I wasn’t staying at a Disney resort, so I got to stand in the hot August sun for over an hour, and they literally didn’t let us into the park until opening. If you’re going to do that, Disney, at least put shade and fans! I thought they’d at least let us into the park to go into some air conditioned shops or something, but no such luck. Not a great experience at all!
I usually like to rope drop either EPCOT or Magic Kingdom, partially because DHS was a very poor option and the safari at Animal Kingdom doesn't typically open early. At MK, I'm heading for JC, then Pirates then BTM. At EPCOT it's either Remy or Soarin' or Spaceship Earth (I know that's not the "best one to rope drop in the AM-but it's kind of a tradition as I like to ride it twice per visit. Start my day and then end of my day 🤷♀️) I likes what I likes. 😂 Glad they've changed things at DHS. I might have to throw it back in the rope dropping mix.
Same! Yeah, this is definitely a welcome change at a park that could REALLY use it. Looking forward to really taking advantage of rope dropping this park now that this change has been made.
Oh, this is a much less positive change for people like me who stay in Disney property because we love having that short amount of time in the parks without everyone else. My husband and I struggle with crowds so it’s the best time of the day for us as it’s so much quieter (and cooler first thing).
This doesn't change your ability to have that time one bit! 😀 You still have your 30 minutes plus now you can also get into the park a lot quicker cause you're not limited to only a few turnstiles to get in.
Probably a dumb question but If we’re rope dropping to get a certain ride we already booked LL for, would it be best to get straight in line or just chill and wait for it to open? (Coming with 3 kids so trying to do whatever I can to minimize stress😅)
You would want to rope drop something you didn't get a LL for. The point of rope drop is to beat the long lines. Rope drop one of the other Tier One attractions. Rope dropping something you have a lightning lane for gives you no advantage unless your plan is to ride it twice.
@a.m.1655 It's not a dumb question at all! It really just depends on how you want to spend your morning. If you're wanting a chill morning and already have that LL, then I don't see there being any reason to get in the line once your inside the park. I'd be using that time to stroll, enjoy the morning, maybe window shop, take some pics and then head in once the rope drops. However, if you want to take advantage of another shorter line OR plan on riding the one you have a LL for more than once without having to wait too long, I'd get in line so that you have a better chance at that opportunity PLUS can still take advantage of your LL. When it comes to reducing stress though, both for you and your kids, I think avoiding the line straight away is the way to go. Get in the park, get yourself situated, maybe bring breakfast/snack with you, take a bathroom break and then head to that LL. The time will pass so much faster if your strolling around before rope drop than if you are standing in line and if you're there before the park opens for day guests you're already ahead of the game. So if I decide to take my family and drive from my resort to magic Kingdom do I have to wait the half hour or can i rope drop with everyone else who takes the buses to that park?
If you are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort or other resort that makes you eligible for Early Park Entry, you have access to that perk regardless of how you choose to get to the park. You can absolutely drive yourself OR take the provided transportation and still have access to Early Park Entry.

If you're a resort guest and plan on taking advantage of Early Park Entry, you could likely get onto Runaway Railway with a shorter wait without the use of Lightning Lane assuming you arrive at the park early. So you wouldn't really need to buy Lightning Lane in order to ride Runaway Railway specifically. . . . . but you may want to have it for other more popular attractions in the park.
This is good news, Kat. With the mobility issues affecting me now, I can no longer deal with rushing mobs. I experienced one in Charlotte Airport on October 2, when i was struggling with my very painful ankle, and i almost got knocked down and run over. Also, when you talk about people with problems getting through the turnstiles, boy do i know what you mean! It’s hard enough for me to stand in a line with an uncertain wait time.
It is VERY good news! I do appreciate that this makes things a lot easier for everyone, but it's definitely an extra perk for those with mobility issues who would rather not have that tight squeeze at the entrance. Definitely not a fun way to start the day!

I prefer to rope drop Epcot at the international gateway, because there are some awesome character greets!
Who do you get to greet? I’ll be entering at international gateway in January for the first time. Usually we enter at the main entrance.

According to MDE, it opens 30 min prior to the park opening to day guests. I do not know if that reflect the new opening procedure. 🤔
They started doing this for early entry at Hersheypark here in PA. No one likes it LOL
