  • Trying to clear a backlog of machines I'll never have time to restore.. This is a Camelback Drill Press that is in pretty good shape.... It's Located outside of Navasota Texas and fore sale for 500.00 cash... That's what I have in it and the wife will not be happy if I don't get it back :) The email address is in the About section of my channel.

    I love the Excelcior presses. The only thing I see missing is the sensitive handle assembly that belongs on the right. Maybe 18" long handle. Should have a squeeze handle to release the dog block that locks it to the feed shaft so it can be repositioned. The guard on top is for the back gear. Position it to protect when the back gear is engaged. The gears are exposed when disengaged, IIRC.

    The camel Back Drill that needs saving looks a lot like the one Keith Fenner has in his shop

      I have a really nice radial arm drill so I just don't need this one, or any of the last three to come through the shop :)

    I remember John from the PM forum, I find ihe thought that machinists have to give up their lifetime’s collection of machines & related stuff, quite sad, that could be me in 20 yrs or so.

    Yes swapping L1 & L3 or L1 & L2 will reverse direction if it is running backwards.
    But changing L2 & L3 will make it spin one way or another if it is “poling” which is what yours is doing.
    It’s not that the motor is too weak it’s just that you still don’t have it wired right is all.

    IT LOOKS LIKE YOU DONT HAVE AN ELECTRIC FULE PUMP . PUT SOME LOW AIR PRESSURE IN THE TANK STEAVE FAILING THAT CALL AN ENGINEER OUT AND HAVE A DIAGNOSIS DONE . SO YOU DONT JUST CHANGE PARTS AND COST YOU TWICE AS MUCH . BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE YOU .

    • @10swatkins
      @10swatkins  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      IT has a electric pump.... Service calls by JD are hard to get right now and expensive as hell.... Found another in the tank filter that is probably the problem...I'm going to delete it and put an inline filter outside the tank that will feed the main filter water separator.

    • @johnlottes7440
      @johnlottes7440 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had the same thing on my Kubota BX22. Empty the tank, remove the pump, install a shut off valve, inline separator/filter, reinstall the pump, fuel up and off you go (hopefully).

    • @10swatkins
      @10swatkins  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@johnlottes7440 Tank had cleaner and all the fuel sucked out, Just did not know about that inside strainer... Pretty sure that is the problem.... I'm just going to drain it again, get rid of the in the take strainer and put a clear inline filter on the outside of the tank... Where it should be in the first place! Going to be in the next video,,,, see if that cures the problem...

    I have the 2wd, non-cab version and had a similar issue. The fuel shutoff valve has a screen on the inside of the tank that gets clogged. I had to replace the whole valve as JD doesn’t sell the screen separately. The valve is somewhat accessible under the fender and mine has a access panel on the fender. The valve just unscrews from the tank. Hope your tank is close to empty. Good luck.

    • @10swatkins
      @10swatkins  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think that is the issue after a little searching on TH-cam One guy pulled his and JD shop told him it was on to use brake cleaner on it,, I'm just going to get the new assembly , only about 27 .00 I did not know it was there or I would have changed it when I cleaned the tank :( Thanks for taking the time to comment...

    You need a good sort out. you have loads of room , you have loads of unused wall space , loads of roof space , you need another mesa nine, compressors that should be outside in a small lean to etc. all this would give you loads of space for more machines

    • @10swatkins
      @10swatkins  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is some savings to be had but,, well nothing else can be outside per the wife! Machines also need not only the space for the machine but room to work around them... Toolboxes and work tables use it up also.... The beast alone takes up 12 x 30 feet.... Not much to be hung on the walls, all my stuff is heavy and needs support from the floor which also take us room...
      SO it's either less stuff hanging around to be worked on or littler machines, and that just won't do :)

    Another thing to check on your JD Steve, would be for a blocked vent in the fuel cap or fuel tank. I had that on my Case 995 and it would run for a bit each day and then die as the vacuum built up in the tank.

    • @10swatkins
      @10swatkins  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I popped the fuel cap off and heard it relieve a vacuum it had pulled... So I left the cap off, got it started and after a few minutes it did it again.... Something is pulling a vacuum on the tank though... I don't see any air vent on the tank as shown in the parts book but I will check that too... Thanks for replying...

    You are going to have to go through your machines and make a different priority list, there is toooooo much gold in this machine, to not move it to the front of your list and work your magic on it!! It would be great for the channel, this one is right up Dons alley too, maybe he would help on this one. This is one I would love to see brought back!! Easy for me to say, haha. I would come help you if I wasn’t in Northern Minnesota! lol. Great video

    • @10swatkins
      @10swatkins  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have made a list and this one is so far down it hurts.... It's sat in the back of the shop for about two years now and not moved very much forward... The Bridgeport is main focus right now, then the 10ee then the Axelson 16.... Then the Radial arm drill , a very modern one, needs a down feed problem fixed and that is going to be a bear.. Then we get into the brown and sharp #1 cylindrical grinder then..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ...... IT's a lot of work on that drill for something I'll never have a use for and would never see any more money out of .... Plus I REALLY need the room :(

    • @10swatkins
      @10swatkins  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh about 5 a year.... Most years... You guys don't see everything :) Most of these machines are basket cases and take a lot of time to find parts, spent 3 hours today looking and getting 4 bolts for the Bridgeport riser!
      I have slowed down a bit in the last two because I am also the Countries #1 Dealer/ Installer for CellGate entrance systems, drive about 60,000 miles a year and have a wife :)
      What you don't see are the thousands of hours spent filming and editing... The last video had about 5 hours of video that I condensed into 40 minutes and that took about 4 hours to do....
