Many may be ignorant to the bliss in hearing the chant But it is for the few who live for the bliss of such divine chant that this Universe is still reverberating with the divinity of humanity in getting closest to the Ultimate reality
Thanks for posting. It is very difficult to memorise the Ghana/Krama padam. Always there is the possibility of mixing regular Rudhram unless full concentration on Ghanam is given. These Pandits chant without seeing the text book. So this shows their, talent, involvement, sincerity and the years of hardwork on learning this. Hat off. Best Wishes to them. Radhekrishna.
This is one of its kind, and its superb. We chant Rudram as well, but it takes a lot of Deeksha to be able to learn the Ghanam. Salutes to Rudra, and those who are blessed with this nice Vidya.
First of all, I thank ramasws1 for uploading this RudraGhanamParayanam.Get up in the early morning (say,at 5 a.m.);have a nice bath, if possible, in cold water.Play this rudra parayanam.Close your eyes and listen to this chanting .Positive vibrations will be felt not only in your whole body and mind but also in your home. The entire day will be very pleasant.
Hi Ms Daly, Ghanam is derived from the Sanskrit word "Ghana" meaning dense. The ghana patha involves repitition of words of a mantra in specific pattern. These pathas were designed before pen and paper were invented, and this is how the words were passed on from one generation to next. The repetition helped in keeping the pronunciation and the tune of the mantra intact. There is more details in this video - Just search "Lecture Demonstration on Vedas - Part 02 " on youtube

Shri.Devidas, don't worry about the comment made by Mr.Chandrashekardevaraj...While most people enjoy the beauty & fragrance of the roses,a handful of people see only the thorns in the roses and not beyond that..!These kind of people never come out of the shell of ," I ", "me" and "mine" ! Let us just ignore these self-centered individuals and let us continue enjoying the beauty and fragrance of the roses
FOUR WORDS => A-B-C-D- A-B-B-A-A-B-C-C-B-A-A-B-C-B-C-C-B-B-D AND SO ON For example, the group of words a-b-c-d- mentioned earlier, when chanted in the ghana format will be, a-b-b-a-a-b-c-c-b-a-a-bc; b-c-c-b-b-c-d-d-c-b-b-d; and so on.
The Example has been taken from the Article " VEDIC CHANTING" A Perfectly Formulated Oral Tradition" -by Dr.S.YEGYA SUBRAMANIAN --as given below => "For example, the group of words a-b-c-d- mentioned earlier, when chanted in the Ghana format will be, a-b-b-a-a-b-c-c-b-a-a-bc; b-c-c-b-b-c-d-d-c-b-b-d; and so on."
Thanks for upload, @chandrashekardevaraj, what you mean about svaram, dont comment if you dont know, some of them are my co students, let me know which svaram is wrong, coz i did ghanantham, currently in United states of America...
I Love chanting Sri Rudram! Anyone could tell me if there´s any difference in chanting this way and the common way, without the repetitions? I mean, is there any difference in terms of "power" or attaining karmaphalam?
Rodrigo Duarte -Just search for ‘Samsveda Sri Rudram’ or ‘Sti Rudram in Samaveda’,in you-tube. You will get options of recital by different groups.Choose the one that resonates within you.
Only in India will you find people in the same room, intermingled between 5,000+ year old sacred euphony recounting the causal body of the cosmos, the firstmost wind the word is howled on, and chatter about nothing overlaid. All respect to those who have the ability to do this - and those who would even attend such an event for whatsoever reason but does this reveal tendencies to be curbed? Has everyone got the right attitude here? If some do not, why?
Namaskaram, please can you explain exactly what "ghanam" means. I am a foreigner who lived in India for 15 years, during which I learnt the Rudram-chamakam by heart, and used to chant it at the Shivananda Ashram temple in Rishikesh every day. I am fascinated by the extended forward, backward, forward, backward version in this extraordinary video. Please can you give more details for enthusiastic bhaktas like myself. Pranaam. Nandini Daly Hi, Ghana patham is making 13 words sentenze by using 3 words of Vedam. It is needn't told by gurus that Ghanam was first introduced by Ravanasura . He was one of the great Taapasi (highest level of austerity) and was a devotee of Lord Shiva. Ghana Patham is most complex way of customisation of Veda mantras. Only some part of Veda Mantras can be chant as Ghana. Chanting Ghana requires not only skill, but also lot of energy. It requires lot of practice to remember the Sandhis(Joints) and Swara(Rythm) while joining words. One has to hold his breath for atleast 10 seconds to complete one sentence. Some sentences will take more than 30seconds. Imagine persons chanting Ghana will take a max 6-8 breaths per min. Its not that easy task. Keeping the complexity of factors like energy consumption, and Swara usually it will be chanted with a set of people divided into 2 groups. So that people chant this Ghana will not get tired soon. When it is properly chanted by right set of people with certain levels of pitches, we can easily go to meditative mode. The amount of positive vibrations created in that area is incomparable. I myself a Purohit and with my experience I can tell that it will be amazing to listen this Ghana in live atleast once in life time.
Rudra ghanam is NOT part of Sri Rudram. Sri Rudram is salutation to Lord Shiva with 11 chapers usually followed by a 12th chapter, which is an assortment 8 mantas from yajurveda and 2 from Rig Veda). Sri Rudram is part of Taittiriya Samhita of Krishna Yajurveda and occurs in the centre of it. The Shiva Panchakshari Mantra occurs in the centre of Sri Rudram. Shukla Yajurveda has a short version, called Rudraashtaadhyaayi.Sri Rudram recital is followed immediately by Chamaka Prasna (which is named so because of proliferation of the words cha (a conjunction meaning 'and) and the word 'me' ( meaning 'unto me') and is in the form of prayer for benediction of material and spiritual comforts). Ghanam is an advanced style of recital, common to Rig veda, Krishna and Shukla Yajurveda and Atharva Veda.So 'ghanapathi"s are very few in Rig Veda and Krishna Yajurveda and few dozens in Shukla Yajurveda. Atharva Veda is almost extinct and revived by the efforts of the Kanchi Paramacharya, with less than a dozen scholars, but Ghanapathis are unknown. ++++++++++++++++++++++++ Forwarded as received...

Rodrigo Duarte -You must listen to this in Gayan(musical) form i.e. ‘Sama gana’. Direct experience of unification with divinity.
