If you play on a low difficulty your rookie season and average an insane amount of points or are well rounded enough, they start you your first season and you make the playoffs (usually only with the Timberwolves or Knicks). Therefore, Vic wouldn't exactly be dead at the time your player receives the award then. So they wouldn't want to spoil the game for you.
