    Hi, Basti here, I'm the one that went on the road trip with Stefan.
    I just wanted to really thank Stefan for taking me on this journey. Stefan and I connected through Patreon, where I'm one of his supporters. I have asked him a few questions around his Land Cruiser 105 Series as I'm building a similar car. Stefan was kind enough to provide me with some information. It just so happened that I had some time off and Stefan was going on a trip to the New England Tablelands and asked me if I would like to join. Such an opportunity doesn't happen very often and I was very happy to join him. It was a great experience.
    It's crazy when you realize how much knowledge Stefan has about basically any area in Australia. His mapping, waypoints and historical knowledge. which he probably collected over many years, is incredible. The trip itself was 7 or 8 days in total. We stopped at many beautiful places (as you can see in the videos :) ) that I would have never been able to discover on my own, just going day by day and exploring new places. The trip was amazing. I just thought I'd put it out there. Stefan does not only have a lot of knowledge in terms of the trip itself, but also lots of experience knowing how places changed over time. It's almost like you do a road trip with a bit of history lesson and interesting information on the go. We stopped at rivers, we camped in different areas and saw some amazing landscape.
    Once again, thank you Stefan for letting me be a part of this journey. I really enjoyed it. I can only highly recommend your knowledge. It's impressive.
    Basti

    The Cathedral Rock loop is worth a walk even if you don't climb the rock, and especially in the wet. This area has regrown most of the magic it lost in the big fires. The sub-alpine woodland is distinctly different to most of the surrounding habitats.

    From a website: “The total drop of the two waterfalls has been (unofficially) estimated to be 115m.”

    Very nice mate. We are blessed here in oz, with so many places to see and explore. On another note, can i ask you what tyres you are running, and how you rate them for ON road?? Thanks 😊

    NSW National Parks are a pain for camping and access always closing roads and locking gates. You could have camped for free nearby at Wattle Flat in the State forest.

    Pretty sure mate you can fly “over” a National Park, just can’t launch or land in a NP. They don’t own the airspace although they think they do the mongrels 😂🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
    Great clip as always bud, well done 👍

    Mate I hear you about those nsw bookings. Im just about to take my two kids by myself from Brisbane to Barrington Tops for a week. I did a fair bit of research and booked as best I could. But never been there so stressing a bit whether they are good spots or not. Or should i have just picked one spot and daytripped to each spot from there?

    • @AlloffroadAu
      @AlloffroadAu  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      yea this pre booking is just bad just hope you have a good spots and if you only stay a night each I just pick. better one and hope (if you arrive late and leave early as we usually do)

    Question, you made a comment to switch your Starlink off because you had mobile reception, why? Mobile costs, Starlink doesn’t, at least mine doesn’t as comes with fixed monthly unlimited down/i😅p load, hence more reliable, better bandwidth and free given you would have paid the monthly fee!

    • @AlloffroadAu
      @AlloffroadAu  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      yep but I'm not on the unlimited plan and the 50gb are quickly gone. If on unlimited yep agree.

    To be honest I’m glad that they’ve banned drones. It seems funny that you say you have zero impact when one of your drones was smashed by a bird that was defending its territory.
    So the drones do have an impact. You may not always see it but the noise and the intrusion into the airspace of the native birds surely has an impact.

    • @AlloffroadAu
      @AlloffroadAu  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      I understand your concerns about drones, but I think it's important to consider the broader context. In my experience, having flown drones for over 10 years, I've only had one bird strike out of thousands of flights. This suggests that the overall impact on both people and wildlife is minimal.
      On the other hand, I've seen dozens of dead eagles on roadsides, likely hit by cars while feeding on roadkill. It's a reminder that many outdoor activities have some impact on nature. For example, bushwalking can cause erosion. Additionally, fires resulting from poorly maintained national parks and insufficient back burning can devastate large areas, making any human recreational effect seem minuscule in comparison.
      Responsible use of nature and its resources is crucial for our well-being as a society. It's all about finding a balance and understanding the relative effects of different activities

      @@AlloffroadAu You're doing good Stefan. Nice reply, which shows the knowledge you have.

    • @rextimmy
      @rextimmy 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      They haven't banned drones entirely, you need to get approval to fly them for recreational use in the park you are visiting, there is a form on the nsw national park website. No idea if youtube vids fall under recreational or not? You can also fly them commercially, again you need approval and likely more hoops to jump through. Check the nsw national parks website, there will be more info on it all there

    • @AlloffroadAu
      @AlloffroadAu  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Yes, I've gone through the process for some parks, but it's not really feasible. The process is long, complicated, and often ends in refusal. Plus, it's different for each national park, which seems excessive for just a 5-minute drone flight.
      One issue is that national parks often classify this as commercial activity and want to charge fees. However, my TH-cam channel is purely a hobby and has never generated any income-it doesn't even cover the costs of my trips. So paying for a license to fly a drone and do a little filming just isn't feasible for me.
      I'm all for regulations that make sense and genuinely protect our environment, but I feel this approach doesn't quite hit the mark. There are already existing rules about keeping a safe distance from wildlife and people that should be enforced instead.

      @@AlloffroadAu I enjoy all your work Stefan and appreciate and understand your point of view. I just see them as unnecessary and intrusive. Do you think that not flying one would reduce your enjoyment of the places you visit?
