Great video but you do need to heed the comments on proper handling and release of Trout. Wet your hands, take your picture, and get them back in the water quickly.

wow you guys killed it. also nice video I'm glad you recovered you camera. I also want to thank you for showing what flies you were using not many guys show exactly what they were using. I'm a beginner at fly fishing I'm still learning about it like what flies to use and when to use that particular flies. once again thank you. keep up the good work

Nice video guys! One suggestion for you here and also for viewers. For lure fisherman, swapping out treble hooks for a single hook on spinners and spoons pays dividends for released fish! In fact, all of the panther martin patterns that work well here in Colorado can be bought that way from the manufacturer with a single hook.

@thecoloradowickedfisha have you fished these 2 lakes recently or heard a report on them? I've heard conflicting reports that they may have winterkilled 2 years ago. Thanks

Great video, it was really entertaining! I went backpacking for the first time last year and also fished some alpine lakes. It was such a cool experience and some of the best fishing of my life. Thank you for putting together such a great video, subscribed!

I will be in the flat tops in early September for elk backpacking in. I have been there many times around those same lakes hiking in from the upper Stillwater Reservoir, Stillwater Reservoir , and Yamcola Reservoir, but have never fished any of them. With a big game tag you now get a free fishing license so I will try this year. What do you think I should pack, a spin or fly?
For all of the know it all’s, if I’m lucky enough to catch anything legal I will eat it.

Nice Video. Do the lakes you fished in the Flattops have names? ie. are they labeled on a topo map? Thanks

@@markmuller3144 Why give the name? Let people explore and keep lakes a little less crowded.

What a great video! I’ve backpacked all over up there, and was just curious what trail you were on, where you were from Devil’s Causeway. Also, I really appreciate you sharing the gear and rigs you used. My son is just getting into fly fishing, and this was very helpful! Keep posting videos!

I cover the fly selection in the "Gear Check" section of the show. In this case, it is a size 14 baby bugger in black with a bead head.

11:42 broken jaw.. what a shame. You keep your fish out of the water way too long too. Quit making such a trophy out of it and have more respect when catch and releasing.

Trout are such a sensi bitch of a fish - Take them out of the water by hand for a few seconds & they're pretty much dead........ Pretty much have to keep them in the water the whole time... Catch some dragon flies & cut the wings in half on a #10 hook - ALL DAY !!!!!!!!!!!! Great video however

You must be from out of state. No one calls them cut ties. Either cuts or natives not (shudder) cutties...

Lived here 18 years and, yep, will always be from "out of state." And you can't say "no one calls them cutties" because, well, clearly I do.

I guess I thought treeline was close enough. Several of the hikes and exploratory adventures took us clear up to 11,100 ft, which in the Flattops is treeline.

Gotta love the elitist...Nice video and looks like it was good times. I can't imagine how many fly fishermen cringed when you said you all had switched to spinning outfits and lures. NOOOooooo!!!! lol
Be glad you didn't film the eating of any fish. More haters would have commented...
I personally would love to see more people use soft plastics. I things it's as close to live bait as you can get. It just takes more finesse sometimes.

Thanks for the comment. We actually did eat a BUNCH of delicious brook trout on this trip, so there's the cold, hard truth.

Sorry you didn't enjoy it. I do get excited about trout fishing! Actually, all kinds of fishing for that matter! If you don't like my constant enthusiasm for the fish, you will want to refrain from watching my other vids.
