We are still working in the yard trying to get our yard back in shape for the season. Bit by bit!
We also started ordering all of our contents that we lost in the fire. We should have lots of household hauls in the weeks to come.

We are a large family with 10 kids ranging in age from 23-8. We homeschool live on a few acres in Central Texas. With our family size, we buy a lot of groceries, so expect several once-a-month grocery hauls at the first of every month. On our farm, we raise great pyrenees, a handful of livestock animals and tend to a small garden. It's an adventure, and still new to us. So join us! Sometimes we succeed, and many times we don't.

I find it interesting to hear you say a 'Mother in law's suite', we call it a 'Granny flat' in South Africa. (a flat is a British/English term for what Americans call an apartment)

I just wanted to tell you also I had same problem with my hosta last year and I read that you need to put coarse sand all under the hosta plants and the slugs won’t travel over it cause it would cut them. I tried it this spring when they started coming up and so far I haven’t had any damage. We just bought bags of white coarse sand spread it all around and under.

Good idea! We have iris planted around an oak tree and they are lovely!
I'm not sure if you know but you can split hostas, I think normally when they are fairly established, but worth a shot with smaller plants, also that weed killer recipe works really well for us x
