We chose this floor because it was cheap, but it works. There was another floor that was slightly cheaper but it was golden oak and I didn't want the cabinets to blend into the floor. We are just happy to have a clean kitchen!

Maverick has been at the door through this whole project, always trying to come in and check it out. We finally have the plastic down and the door opened up. I think he was excited to finally check out the new room.
I’m a loving the kitchen remodel!! Hold your horses - old paneling for toe kicks??? Can it be?? It looks great!!! Totally wasn’t expecting that and yet it blends in together and works. The paneling on the end makes the statement ‘that’s right - we’re the cool kids on the block - we like retro paneling - boo yah!!!’ Ok - and now Negative Nancy speaks “the dingy ceiling is an eye sore! It looks like smoke damage or just years of cooking grease. Roll on 1 coat of semigloss white to match your new kitchen! Your progress and handicraft skills are amazing! And making progress makes you want to do more and more. And us LUCKY fans get to come along for the ride!!! Weeeee!!!! Love you guys - snuggle hug to Mr Grumpy!!!
Ashley has told me many times that we have to paint the ceiling, lol. We keep looking at the "oops" paint but there hasn't been anything good for a ceiling. We'll see what we can do about it.
Looks great! What's even better is the smiles on your faces that reaches clear to your souls. Little Maverick once again steals the show - already wanting to get into daddy's tools and build stuff. A born DIY'r I'm not a builder, nor live in a trailer but I've been in trailers and notice they have puny amt of fuses, especially homes and such built back in the 70's when people did not have near as many electric devices there are limited outlets - maybe look into that and you might want to add another breaker switch or 2 to run to areas where you'll have more electric need like charging stations. Obviously ONLY if you know exactly what you're doing with electrics.
Sharpies and duct tape and a phillips screw driver ... essential tools with DIY projects :) So many young people could learn volumes from your commitment to this project :)
What a difference one day can make. Home improvement projects can be infectious or a little bit like Lays potato chips; you can't do just one. I love the sheer delight Maverick has tootling across the new floor covering. Always good for a smile. Have an epic weekend! Someone buy this home!!!
Your son reminds me of my son at that age he would take his dad's tools so when his dad needed a tool and can't find it he would look in my son's toy box. it was there ever time. lol Now my son is 19...boy I sure do miss those days😁

Yes, the stove has been sitting outside but we just brought it in today. We are going to finish cleaning it up and hopefully have it hooked back up by tomorrow. It cleaned up pretty good.

I have followed your journey for about 9 months and think its awesome your family had a dream to live in the country and know after all the hardwork its becoming reality. I remember thinking to myself when you first showed your new place 'what a dump' but now im starting to see the potential that you two saw all along. So far the only thing i dont like about the kitchen remodel is the last panel you put on the side of the cabinets. It doesn't flow with the cabinets, the color difference stands out like a sore thumb. If it was me i would use the smooth side out (backside of wall panel) and then stain to match the cabinets.
Fair enough. I didn't need the panel really but just felt like adding it to hide some issues at the floor level really. It looks okay in person though. For free, it works for us. We'll have a video coming out soon about our property plans and what we hope to accomplish here. We appreciate you joining our journey :)

Kitchen looks great. I was waiting for Maverick to go inside the cupboard and he reached in and found a tool. So funny, you might have never found it there but said, "I was just looking for that." I find these little things so charming. He's so cute.

Seeing your little boy investigating the cabinets reminds me of our old farmhouse, where every door had a child-proof latch except the one with plasticware and old pots and pans. Our little boys had free access to that door, and they made full use of it!!!
You two remind me of when my husband and I where your age. We did all our own repairs to our home and worked together. I LOVED THOES DAYS AND I MISS THEM. We had so many late nights and long days. Doug, when you install the range I would use a new flexible gas line. Old ones have been known to fail and cause a fire or worse yet an explosion. Be safe !!

I love a front kitchen. It makes a mobile home look so much homier. I notice the dining area was given a sort of separate look, the dinette table and chairs have their own space. Mobile homes used to be built with so many cute features. They have done such a great job making the kitchen look so nice.

We've learned to wipe up spills quickly with our laminate flooring; otherwise you will get stains. However, I must agree that it looks great! Because you are tackling the job together encourages me your relationship should prove to be a strong one. Kudos for a job well done!
I thought at first the floor was going to,be too dark, but with the light green walls and the light cabinets, looks great. (I know I’m a year late, but I’m just seeing these, so commenting as the first time watching, lol)
Well I am impressed, I'm impressed with the speed of your work, I'm impressed with the idea of using the old sheet material for the aesthetics of the end panel and toe boards. I would give you top marks, but I'm afraid maverick stole the show, running around on the new floor, top man showing you the pictures and raiding the cupboard . Just one comment on the negative side, do you have a problem with your camera because the quality is quite bad, certainly not up to your normal standard. But all in all a good video, well done both of you.
When you upload videos to youtube, they are displayed at a really low resolution at first until TH-cam finishes it's behind the scenes processing. If you check the video settings, it's probably at 360p or 480p. After a while it should go to normal 1080 HD. We use to schedule videos ahead of time and that gave them time to process, but lately we have been just letting them go live right away so that's probably why you see the difference. Maybe we'll start scheduling them again so they have time to clear up. Thanks for the feedback on that!
