Wow, I wish I had seen this last spring, I just reworked my personal mach3 sx3 mill. I did not have enough inputs and was very frustrated setting up motor tuning on my spindle control. As a Machine Tech Instructor one of our machines at the school has Centroid and it seems to work well. We also have 2 Haas cncs, a Mazak cnc lathe and a YCM VMC with fanuc. So I have other machines to compare the Centroid controller to and it works nicely

Great job on communicating what this does. I'm trying to retrofit a older lockformer vulcan 2000 plasma table that I bought a year ago. As my luck would have it before I could even use it the software crashed and there's no way to get it. So here I am trying to learn what I can to do myself on installing a new controller, motors and save myself some money. I must say it's definitely overwhelming being that I've never personally used any cnc machine let alone program the machine itself to where I can use it .....

All I have to say is that Centroid has top notch service! I ordered an Acorn kit at the worse time possible, during the Christmas craze, and it still arrived in a week, to Sweden!!! and that is more or less unheard of! Thank you Centroid, you can count on more business from me! =)

is their anyway to add 1 more axis? I want to use on a CNC router and the gantry typically requires 2 motors. In the future I would like to add a 4th axis. So the 3 axis machine will take up 4 drives on the board and the future 4th axis would need a fifth. I know you can probably run the 2 gantry steppers off of 1 axis output, but I heard if you have a separate output for each gantry axis you can run a homing program to make sure the gantry is straight. Basically homing each gantry motor independent to make sure your gantry is perpendicular to its travel.

My only complaint is that I didn't know about this sooner. I unhappily spent 650$ on mach4 w/ hicon board. If Franco cnc wouldn't have posted this I would still be in the dark about acorn. This seems like a great product and I just received mine but more word of mouth or advertising would have been great. Newfangled gave This old tony a free Mach4 and he threw out multiple shout outs at them.

I have to say mach3 seems to have a far better driver for steppers. I can dial my steppers in Mach3 at 150ipm and 300 rapids and they run flawless. In centroid by the time I get the steppers dialed in to be accurate to an inch on the table to dro the max ipm I can get without losing steps is 35-40ipm. The features in Mach are far more detailed in adjusting frequency, velocity, and resolution on the steppers. If such features exist in centroid they must be hidden somewhere.

Why is it limited to a single encoder input? Lots of expansion elsewhere... but... it's clear Centroid does not want to impact their primary CNC retrofit business for folks who have encoders on 3+ axis (which, is normal). It's nice to have a product from a single vendor... but... the next step up is $1800+... so... if you get into this and realize you need more from Centroid- you are really in a pickle. We should be clear. Centroid is trying to figure out how to dabble in the DIY market- without impacting their primary business. I can appreciate that, but, to say this is better than the other DIY products is a stretch at best. All DIY products will take more effort. This is clear. To claim that this DIY product will solve all of the issues present elsewhere is not accurate. The issues you run into will just be different- and your safety net will be the same.

Just now listening to this presentation covering the features of this Acorn and cross-referencing to other typical systems and hardware that most people are aware of, or should be aware of if they have no experience.
BUT ......BUT .....BUT .....if the presenter's name is really "FRANCO"....if you didn't listen to your own presentation before posting, you should have. It is one thing to give a "relaxed" presentation, but it is another to give a presentation like this and CONSTANTLY use the FILLER WORDS ...."YA KNOW" and "LIKE". You might think of this detail as "chinsy" ...but it really is not. Narrating like this makes a good presentation ...very cheap. Consider this "constructive criticism"
I listened the whole 35 minutes. You must have used "YA KNOW" and "LIKE" a thousand times. VERY POOR for such a public presentation .....but the product does look very good.
