    Just did my first drive today. I signed up a couple weeks ago and was basically being forced to drive or have my account forever deactivated. I must say it was cool. 4 rides within an hour. I'm in Chicago. It snowed here today. I would suggest to anyone reading this to invest in some weather tech floor mats. The precision cut ones. I'm gonna get out there tomorrow because the circus is in town.

    This was an awesome review. Thank you. The only thing I am worried about with driving is I'm a female. So obviously picking up strangers and safety is a concern of mine. I really need to make some money though so I'm going to try it out. I just finished my application and I can now start driving. I plan to start tomorrow.

    I think if I go for Uber since I currently work 7:30-4 and have a hour drive Ive thought about if I do work for Uber to work aroudn 6-8 or 6-9 Monday-Thursday unless I decide to take a day off during the week. And Friday stick around until 10 and work most of the day Saturday then take Sunday off to be with family and go to church. Im not working during the bar scene either.

    If a passenger doesn't give you a rating at all, that doesn't lower your rating, it has no effect on it. Since your rating was a 4.5, it means that some of your passengers that did rate you did rate you below 5 stars. Impossible to get all 5 stars. Some passengers just rate a 3 if the trip was fine and there were no problems.

    • @SalMarone3173
      @SalMarone3173  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sean Dudley I maintain a 4.8, Sometimes I go down to 4.6 it matter on how many 5 star ratings you get. so if you did say 35 rides and only 20 rated you then it would bring it down. Its not a perfect system thats for sure, but you have to get below 3.5 consistently for your account to in danger.

    • @seandudley5664
      @seandudley5664 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sal Marone
      The rating system is based completely off of rated rides. If you have someone who doesn't rate you, it doesn't count at all, for or against you. If you did 35 rides, and 20 gave you 5 stars, you should go up, and the 15 that didn't rate you would have no effect that all. That is what I see happen when I am rated.

    • @SalMarone3173
      @SalMarone3173  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sean Dudley Good to know. I've had a 5 rating a couple of weeks but then it would usually go down to 4.8. But I only drive part time so I think it's easier to attain with less time spent on the road. Thanks for the good information my brother.

    I've been thinking of doing uber too but I'm worried I could get a drunk person in my car. But that's more likely if you do uber at night and on major holidays like st Patrick's and Fourth of July

    • @SalMarone3173
      @SalMarone3173  8 ปีที่แล้ว

    great video Sal. I'm also an Uber driver.... I noticed the same thing with my rating going slightly down slowly even though I've had like 100% great rides. Are you sure that if the rider doesn't rate me, that my rating drops?? That would be good to know so I can maybe subtly tell my really good riders to rate me good or something. Slip it in with a joke or something so it's not obnoxious but they know to rate me.

    • @burns1210
      @burns1210 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think some people are just never satisfied. I'm down to a 4.79 lately. I was around 4.85 for the longest time. I have been hitting the surges more often, and I think when riders sober up and see what they paid, they take it out on me.

    • @SalMarone3173
      @SalMarone3173  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      April Williams The way earning worked was different when I made this video. I get 20% of my fares and now they offer new drivers to pay 25%. The fare structure of different in every market, and varies from state to state. In Nj I believe it's $1.05 initial fare and then .30 per mile. I'm not sure if those are the exact numbers but it goes like that. Where you get paid a low amount per mile. Truthfully there isn't much money in it anymore.

    do you have to be registered with tlc and have your car plates changed to be a uber driver??? I already started my application with uber, but I just to make sure I don't need a tlc license here in NY. did you have to get TLC license?

    • @SalMarone3173
      @SalMarone3173  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do need to have TLC plates in NY. I'm pretty sure Uber can help you with that. I would write to customer service and ask about it. Here in NJ you don't need TLC plates as of yet. I'm not sure if that will eventually change do to upcoming events happening with Uber here in NJ.

    Will Uber allow a 2009 Ford Focus SE Sedan with over 213,000 miles on it to be used for Uber? Ive thought about becoming a Uber driver part time as I currently work in a mailroom and would like to do it to build up a savings to buy a new car.

      MrWill1985 yes that should work fine for uber, I don't see a problem. Uber also can help you get a car, look into Uber financing.

    Whenever someone says they love driving for uber i'm waiting for them to point me to their affiliate link because clearly they hate it and they're trying to get paid from their affiliate link.

      mynellemail Nell I actually did love it at the time I made this video. It was before they dropped the fares and we were actually making money. I had 5000 views on this video and didn't even know it. Someone emailed me and told me to add my link in my description because he made money like that with Lift. I've since went to work for a private Limo company driving coach busses making a lot more money and a lot less hassle.

    • @nellatl
      @nellatl 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sal Marone ok now that makes sense. Uber/lyft sucks now. All the hassle and risk for forced $3 rides especially if u have a luxury vehicle still doing $3 rides.

    • @SalMarone3173
      @SalMarone3173  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mynellemail Nell exactly. It's not good. They went way too cheap. They should have emphasized good service and screening the drivers better and not just be the cheapest. It was a poor marketing strategy.

      Hey Robert I don't think it would affect anything. Fill out the app. See what happens. They do a full back ground check and driving abstract. Worst case is they tell you how to correct it or they don't accept you but at least you tried. Use the link in the video to get the process started if you like.

    • @SalMarone3173
      @SalMarone3173  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't remember if I received an actual welcoming kit. It may have just been email. I know if you don't want to use your own phone then Uber will rent one to you for I believe $10 a week and a $200 deposit I believe. And they have places they hold meetings where they help you finish your application and distribute phones.

      Hey @mannyman I would say you have to work a minimum of 30 hours at week to make that much, There will good days and better days, but you can make that fairly easy.

    Does your name need to be on the insurance and registration of the car you are driving or can I drive my parent's car? I am 21 so I have that eligibility.

      +Benjamin Ehlers The insurance can be in your parents name but they would have to add your name to the insurance and be in the insurance card.

    would you recommend for one to just drive to the airport and look for rides?

    • @SalMarone3173
      @SalMarone3173  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure what city you are wanting to work but in NJ they recently just banned is from the airports again. Plus there is no incentive as far as cost for us to circle the airports so I wouldn't recommend. The best thing to do is put the app on and just go with the flow. Try to pick up in the area of your last drop off and use as little gas as possible when you don't have a customer in the car.

    money is good but what about the wear and tear on your car?

    • @SalMarone3173
      @SalMarone3173  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like any business there are expenses that come along with it. It's the price of doing business. Uber has options to finance a vehicle at selected dealerships and the monthly payment comes right out of your earnings. When driving Uber you're not an "employee" of Uber, you're a independent contractor so having and using your own vehicle is part of it. A lot of people have a hard time wrapping their head around that. Uber is not for the person that has an employee mindset.

      +Sal Marone This is nothing more then uninsured taxi's. good luck if you get into an accident trying to see if your business car without commercial insurance will pay for your car

    • @SalMarone3173
      @SalMarone3173  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Fitzgerald Once you receive a request and your on your way to pick up you are then under Uber's insurance. The policy at that point covers up to 50k. Once you pick up a passenger the insurance goes up to 1.5 Million. If the app is not on than you are under your own insurance. It is recommended that you sit parked and wait for a call, 1) to save gas and 2) to lessen your chances of getting into an accident which would stop you from driving and there for put you in a position to not make money. I have been in an accident and Uber covered all expenses.

    • @jamesf791
      @jamesf791 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sal Marone the driver and the car are not insured only the customer and the customer is insured door to door. every state law states a commercial vehicle must have commercial vehicle insurance. your insurance company will tell you this.

    • @SalMarone3173
      @SalMarone3173  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +James Fitzgerald I'm not saying your wrong. But I think the issue is that "ride sharing" is not yet considered a commercial vehicle. A lot of people drive for Uber part time. I personally go weeks and even months without driving sometimes. So if it was a traditional cab service where you were dispatching a lot of cars then I'm sure commercial insurance would be better enforced. It's like telling the guy who delivers pizza or Chinese food that he should have commerical insurance. It's a part time gig for most people and truth be told the money isn't great and if people were paying out the nose for more insurance it would be less worth it than it already is.
