There's a nice sadness to this song and a ska and muzak sound as well as, same with these songs that are also the best on this album, Shadow of Fear, Embarrassment, In the Rain, and of course You Said. Top 4 songs from Absolutely.
Brilliant, but underrated music. I don't love all the songs on the album, but between the great hits, there are some pearls ... Listen carefully, there is so much going on in these songs. The record that I once owned doesn't have grooves anymore, they became canyons.
Terrific bass line from Mark Bedford, it just propels the song forward, possibly my favourite song off the album, and Suggs vocals on this are really good.
This is a good album, which starts very strong, then eases off a bit but then comes on strong with the last 5 to 6 songs.. That's a lot of songs to put on an album..
Good observation. It may have something to do with when the band initially presented the album to Stiff, Robbo wasn't hearing any singles, so the band were told to finish it off. They then wrote 'Embarrassment' and 'Baggy Trousers' and probably left everything else on. 'Solid Gone' should have been strangled at birth and 'In The Rain' had already been released, so the album should have been trimmed down a little in my opinion.
@@djh29971 I'd have to listen to it again but I remember that most of the songs were not immediate but 3 to 4 were which ended up being the singles.. I just imagined that Madness couldn't write a bad song as a kid but I was wrong.. I think I only bought the hits albums when I was young as I lived in Ireland and it was hard to get their songs in the shops at the time..
