I know there isn't a competition for Indian wedding ceremonies and I know I have only been to one Indian wedding in my life but....this had to have been the BEST Haldi ceremony EVER! Staying at the Jai Mahal Palace in Jaipur Rajasthan was a dream come true. Attending this Haldi ceremony was a dream I didn't know I had I feel like such a broke record but the Jai Mahal Palace and the haldi ceremony knocked my socks off! That's vermillion and in hindi it's called sindur
Red sauce was Rori(we put on forehead)....it was not sindur
Yes priest is correct word (in Hindi -- pandit) ; the red Dot on head is called Tikka which is meant to be quite auspicious.

Red (vermilion) is an important colour which symbolises fertility, Prosperity, sacrifice and enery....
Haldi (turmeric) is yellow and is also very important ingredient.... You will find it in every occasion even in funeral.... It have medicinal property....
There can be many meanings to one thing... Everything is symbolic in Hinduism... And based on Ayurveda...

Proest is called Maharaj in Hindi.. and the ceremony is usually for soothning of the bride skin to look more beautiful... and elders give tones of blessings to bride for her better future.../ same is also done on the groom side..... happy to help.... haldi is called turmeric... every part of india have this ceremony and core belief remain the same and somewhat it changes as you move in india from region to region... happy to inform you guys... you both are best always happy 🤗

Some have already commented, haldi(turmeric) is antiseptic, often used for minor cuts etc. By covering bride and groom with haldi essentially they are getting rid of potentially harmful skin germs before bride and groom come in close physical contact after wedding, traditionally bride and groom wouldn't have much physical contact before marriage in India.
I haven't seen a non-Indian girl carry Indian clothes and looks and everything thissssssssss welllll !!!!!!!!

It is a paste off powderer turmeric which has medical properties and it use to apply on skin Bcz turmeric helps to glow the skin fairly.. 👍

And they put rice after that because in vedic periods the indian economy was dependent on rice cultivation and we consider rice as symbol of prosperity.
