Just as with paper money, digital money will sooner or later devalue to its intrinsic value, i.e. nearly zero. No currency has ever stood the test of time, with the USD being the longest lived of them all, where Dollars from as far back as 1789 are still legal tender, but that's nothing compared to actual commodities like Silver, which has been used for the last 6,000 years. That's why a significant portion of my savings is in Silver coins. A couple years ago I found an old 1000 Mark banknote in my yard and looked it up. Had it been brand new it would have been worth about 0.75 USD, however, back when that banknote was still legal tender, its value was set at 20 Marks per ounce of Gold, so that banknote was worth 50 ounces of Gold. How much happier I would have been to have found 50 ounces of Gold rather than a tattered piece of paper I wound up putting in with the paper recycling.
