The first section (repeated slowed down at the end) was Al Di Meola's "Mediterranean Sundance", which was a duet with De Lucia on Di Meola's (1977) Elegant Gypsy album. It was one of the main songs played on tour by the trio of Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, and Paco De Lucia. The 1981 album by the trio was "Friday Night In San Francisco" if you want to hear a long version by the 3 of them.

I was at that concert in San Francisco. It was a whole evening of amazing music. The opening act was another guitarist that was getting some recognition for his virtuosity. Some guy named Steve Morse. The "new guy" joined the trio for an encore and held his own.

@@ithacaster I saw them in Canada, and I saw Steve Morse open for that later Mahavishnu group with Bill Evans and Jonas Hellborg.

Paco always comes up with something extraordinary. It's not just that skill, but the thing within that drives it. He always comes across as somehow both relaxed and intense. It looks like he's focused to an almost superhuman level.
Yes, I'll go along with that, too. Said as a man about a god. That summarizes it nicely.

One of the best I've ever seen on tv is Angel Romero. In addition to his speed and clarity, his facial expressions delight to no end. (Find in Classical Section)

    Paco loved Mike Oldfield's music ! ❤

    • @trisibo
      @trisibo 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I had no idea Paco had said anything about Mike Oldfield, but apparently he said in a 1986 interview something like "Flamenco is in a very special moment, it needs to receive every possible contribution in order for us to learn things we’re not accustomed to in our own music. [...] Mike Oldfield is a great musician who’s not part of our world and from whom we have a lot to learn, that’s why I seek out his music."
Mike certainly loved Paco's guitar, I can't remember whom, but in an interview with somebody who was there when Mike first came to Spain on tour, they said Mike couldn't stop asking everybody he met if they knew Paco and if he would agree to give Mike a pair of flamenco lessons.

I recommend a live performance of the Spanish singer Diana Navarro " CUPLERIAS GALA DE LOS PREMIOS CERES " She is a very versatile singer singing different styles of music with a very personal voice full of melismas she always transmits when she sings. Greetings from Spain

It is said that Paco hit a wrong note one time, and that it created a rift in the space time continuum. Yeah, even God noticed when it happened 😎😏

In jazz we say there are no wrong notes, only incorrect resolutions :-)

If I'm allowed a little nitpick, the pronunciation of the "c" in "Lucía" (or in any "ci") in Spanish would be similar to the "th" in "thin" in most of Spain, or to "s" in the south of Spain and most (or all?) other Spanish-speaking countries, and also in Portugal (where Paco's mother was from). And the accented letter is the "i". It seems most English speakers use "LuCHia", but that's more like Italian.

Paco plays on Chick Corea's 'Touchstone' album from 1982. He's featured on the first 2 tracks: 'Touchstone: Procession, Ceremony, Departure' and 'The Yellow Nimbus.' Both are excellent tracks. Here's the link for the first track: th-cam.com/video/kjQBIUOtgFM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QLzNVeEzVxqRD2ra

@@Paul-Martin_67 That album is 'Play.' It has a version of Spain on it. Btw, if you like Return To Forever, there is a track of them on the Touchstone album, the very last studio track of RTF. The story I heard was that there were plans for a new RTF album, but it did not happen because of legal reasons (al four members being under contract with different record companies at the time). That's why RTF was not even mentioned on the album. The individual members were all listed as guest musicians - who just happened to play together on that one track 'Compadres.' The next time you're in the mood for virtuoso solo guitar, check one these out:
Tommy Emmanuel: Either "Classical Gas" or "Guitar Boogie/Stevie Ray Blues" (July 2006 performance)
Roxanne Elfasci: Either "Claire de Lune" or "Arabesque No. 1"
Leo Kottke (World's most reknown 12-string guitarist): "Airproofing 2"
Marcin (he's just a freaking kid!): Either "Kashmir" or "Layla"
Trust me; you will be both entertained AND astonished.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, this guy is/was a master of his craft. And his mates weren't too shabby either, particularly flute guy. One nitpicky observation though, why an electric bass. An acoustic, or upright even would've been perfect. Still, can't grumble at the results 🙂
