Good questions. Thank you for asking them. First off, it is almost certain that taking part in extracurriculars will affect your academics in some way. It may be good, it may be somewhat detrimental. Apologies if I wasn't upfront enough on that. Like I said in the video, academics are still important, but there is a balance to be struck between the development of important transferable skills that you can't get from just studying, and the academic side. Secondly, I'm not saying you have to do what I did. If you have no interest in extracurriculars then that is entirely fair, but I would say that it is generally a good idea to have more to life than work. You don't have to be running something to get something out of extracurriculars. Wind Band for me wasn't something I was running, it was just a different environment for me that gave me something a physics textbook couldn't.
