"in theory one could encounter the ghost of their past self." This is so cool, imagine someone so full of hatred does something in a place then they leave and grow, become better. Returning to that place years later, they could literally be haunted by their past actions.
GOLDANDBONE! GOLDANDBONE! GOLDANDBONE!
Litteraly me anytime this series gets an upload, i am so normal about gold and bone
Let me tell ye the tale of me gold bones.
This is SO good! I love when worldbuilders incorporate a bit of science in their magic sistems. If it's of any help, in biology when we name species we only write the first letter of the first word in capital letter, the rest we leave it in lowercase and, if posible, we write the scientific name in italics if its typed on a computer and underlined if its handwritten (so like _Maregenus bombacio_ for example).
This was super informative, thank you!
Honestly, take your time with this project. It's so cool!
@@TheSmolBritIm very enthusiastic about your work, keep it up, take your time tho, as a very wise worldbuilder once said about alchemists "It is a process that simply cannot be rushed, as the art is as much thinking what you are carving, as the carving itself"
"That's it, I'm giving up on art and my worldbuilding project, it's too difficult and frustrating."
* Watches new Gold & Bone video *
...
* Picks up pencil *
I’d read an entire book series of this enchanting world you’ve created! I love it!
Same! If that ever happens, I would gladly pick it up without any hesitation.
My mom is an avid reader, I'd get a copy of it for her too
If gold absorbs magic passively, would this make it easier for enchanters to recognize fools' gold, or would they have worked with gold often enough to tell its fake anyways?
I'd say in many cases it's the latter - the rate at which gold absorbs magic naturally is so minor it is rarely noticeable, but I suspect many alchemists would be in the practice of keeping vials of substances that react with fools' gold!
It is easier to heat up fools' gold(FeS2) and see if it is really a gold. If SO2, a gas with strong smell, is emited, then it's fools gold, if not - it's gold
To add on to @@Karton142's comment -
Understandably, we have a whole class of olfactory cells _dedicated_ to detecting sulfides, given their frequency in the long list of volatiles coming off spoiled food and other "things that will make you very uncomfortable at best if you eat them". Heck, sulfur-dioxide (SO2) is what energy companies put in natural gas for that signature "rotten egg" smell, and there's a good reason the smell of volcanic activity is often described as "sulfuric."
Now I’m imagining bootleg enchantments on fools gold that almost always go slightly wrong
@@anoushkapoppy5941 There is no gold in Fools' gold, but it may be a sign of gold nearby
And just as I was about to go to sleep, ah well, won't hurt to stay up for a couple more minutes : )
Make sure to get your beauty sleep!!
Just make sure you don't stay up too late!
Well what will an extra hour do in the long-run?
7:44 I love how you use real chemistry and incorporate fantasy in it. I hope this world will continue to be developed by you and I can’t wait for more updates ❤❤
I need a TTRPG system and world book about Gold & Bone.
Had a bit of flashback to Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn but this is really unique. Makes my mind light up with all the possibilities, stories and legends that would naturally occur in a world like this.
Please more!
I think this every video!! Would loveee to experience a ttrpg setting like this
I immediately thought of the currency in BS Stormlight, its so cool
This world building mixed with art is just a 🤌 chef's kiss of beauty. I love (hard magic?) systems like this
Hey thank you so much!
Something something magic make hard
If this was a series, i can already see the main villain wearing God-Emperor of Mankind amounts of gold
absolutely loving the witch hat atelier style of magic rules, my favourite kind of stuff ❤❤
Looking forward to seeing where this goes. I'm glad I was able to offer some nugget of info to inspire you during that last stream.
Most definitely, I appreciate it so much!
So glad you are doing more G&B videos! It's easily the most creative world setting idea I've come across in a long time. You paint such vivid imagery (literally and figuratively). I can picture this as a book series, a graphic novel, or even the setting for a TT RPG. I would love to explore such a world.
YESSS another person using a persons will in magic I have a whole magic system based around a persons will power this hypes me up so much!!!
Your magic system is insanely cool and unique. Keep making these videos.
I absolutely adore this series! Can’t wait for the next video!
I feel like this is gonna end up being a novel series. Your worldbuilding is so good and I honestly love how you’re shaping this setting.
I'm someone who's been pondering DMing for years and agonizing over the worldbuilding aspect. Your video has given me so, so much inspiration to get started! Thank you!
So excited to see a new video in this! I've been catching up on your streams and its been great to learn about your world.
Botanical Overseer is such a nice term!
I’ve got an idea of an urban legend for your world. Once, there was an alchemist who was pushed into a vat of vitae by a jealous rival. Usually this is fatal, but so strong was this man’s will and righteous anger that he later emerged as a walking unstable potion that corrupted whatever he touched. After turning his would be murderer into an indescribable mess on the floor, the poison man slinked into the sewer system in self imposed quarantine. If you ever wander into a catacomb (god knows why), and notice that the walls are odd materials, or worse, shifting, go back the way you came as fast as you can. the poison man’s form isn’t the only thing that’s…unstable.
The whole concept of the vetai is kind of similiar to my magic system of Potio I love getting inspired by your work!!
loved the little botany drawing of Esh;- your art is beautiful and you should be very proud
Yoooooo gold and bone lore let’s fucking gooooooooo
I'm really glad a new video about gold and bone is here. I couldn't find your channel because I forgot
Oh I love this how in-between spoken lines you can sense how things like will could channel this magic
Since magic naturally gathers or is created near places with much sentient or intelligent life
With magic gathering near will it only makes sense focusing will, will focus magic
And the runes! They are not some ancient language of the universe but instead the secret code of the enchanters , magic could be imbibed into gold without any runes being put
But the runes both help others deduce the use of the item
And the process helps focus your will on the outcome of the magic instead of just imbuing it with raw vitae
I suck at drawing but I love writing so these lore videos are a lot more in my element. Would love to see more of these deep dives
Another excellent video! Details like the differences in the ways laypeople and experts refer to magic really make the world feel lived in. The way you incorporate real science into the magic system is also so cool and makes it seem much more believable.
Okay this is utterly awesome in ways I can scarcely describe. This is the precise amount of principles and 'rules' for a magic system, while leaving so, so much wonder and gaps for the imagination to fill. So. Freaking. Cool.
I got hard-core monster garden vibes from this video then saw you did a fan video for his stuff - good work!
I'd love to see a video about the different folklore and the most popular tavern stories of this world.
Your world building makes me want to world build, such beautiful art, thorough lore and a smooth voice to coast us through it all is a 👌chefs kiss
I really enjoy how well you’ve utilised your art to convey the worldbuilding here - focusing on the etching tools and their inlays whilst sharing the details of runecraft really put me in the head of the enchanter themselves!
I love where this project is going, and how much potential it has! Very nice work indeed 😄
I love this so much! You are one of the people who inspired me to start my own worldbuilding series! I'm in awe of your art and the level of detail in your world. Truly breathtaking.
Best of luck with your project!! X
@@TheSmolBrit Thank you!
The ghosts you mentioned of people who are still alive being theoretically possible reminds me of the idea of a Fetch.:0 Except a Fetch is usually portrayed as the ghost of someone who hasn't died yet. And may or may not be a portent of that doom if the signs it leaves are not followed. But some Fetches are malevolent apparitions rather than simple warnings.
It'll be interesting to see how the ghosts in Gold & Bone interact with magic as well as thw Ornata. :D
Two TH-cam videos have made this world feel more fleshed out than many entire shows and book series. I cannot wait to see what you come up with next! Keep up the brilliant work!
I love the world you’ve made so far and it makes me curious on how the test of the world looks like! What do people who aren’t alchemists do for a living when alchemy is such an impressive feat and one that many can acquire! What’s the historical impact these magic systems have on your world? Keep up the amazing work!
Love your videos, they're so inspiring. Can't wait to see how this system applies to the Ornata as well.
This is a very unique power system.
I'm loving the world building, you should make a document with all the informations, i would love to make a rpg campaign based on gold and bones
Been waiting for this one🎉🎉🎉
I love the lore and the art, btw your accent definitely adds to it.
Absolutely fantastic writing and art. My goodness
This is simply amazing! I’m loving how this is coming together. Makes me want to do some of these videos for my world!! It’s so intertwined with each other. The art work really sales it. Keep up the awesome work please !
I loooove this world so much! And it's so interesting to hear more and more about it and imagine all the different stories that can be set in a world so full of character 🤩
this is the most impressive and interesting world building ive seen !! i love your videos so much and the visuals you make, it inspires me for my own world-building in my story which i slack on quite often 😓
this is my new favourite thing
On a trip right now, gonna watch this later ❤❤❤
call netflix rn
Oh man! You cut the snail! On the other hand, nice work.
I did sadly, but he is saved to my computer haha
I keep coming back to this one because of how much I love your magic system. It feels so interesting, and just like, satisfying? Idk, it just feels _right_. Well thought out, very clear with what it is and isn't, filling it's own niche, etc.
I've been struggling with my world's magic system for way longer than I'd like to admit. It just never feels like I have a concrete system, and I don't really like the ideas I've come up with so far. Yours just feels so much more... 'professional'? Idk
Sleep deprived me put this under the wrong video, lol. Enchantment and alchemy are still very interesting, don't get me wrong, but I was talking about the 'Let's Design A Gothic Magic System' video 😅
quality of these videos is awesome and they deserve more attention, thanks for the upload!
cool art man 👍
Told just enough to leave us wanting more.
I discovered your channel through Gold & Bone videos, and I'm so in love with your art and world story 😍
Who else would love to see a movie based on this theme
More content for my smooth brain
This is one of my favourite things on the internet. You’ve built such an incredible world! I eagerly await the next release
Whaaa I just discovered this channel earlier today and now there’s a new video?? This is awesome
Watching through this series, I REALLY want to play/GM a ttrpg in this world. I imagine three main class types: Ornata, Alchemists and... well, I'm not sure what normal people would be called, but those would include the Beshat as well as gun users. It would probably be more of a narrative-focused system because the magic system has so much out-of-combat utility that it just makes sense. If I ever decide to learn how to make a ttrpg and you haven't made one yet, I'm for SURE coming back to this channel.
EDIT: I would ask you if I ever did of course, but then again it's unlikely.
Amazing video I love hearing all of the lore and world building ❤
I can see in areas of higher levels of magic that animals would take interesting and complex forms as they too have will and desire however it would be more simplistic and primal leaning towards sort of magical evolution.
I absolutely love your videos!! Longer videos are beautiful, I adore being deeply immersed in a fantasy world that feels as fleshed out as yours! (Or at least watch your art come together, it is so beautiful that I have already had to watch a video of yours twice because I forgot to pay attention lol)
+1 sub!
So enchanting an object with runes is like programming? You need to write specific lines of ”code” to make the enchantment do what you want. Interesting concept!
This is such a cool channel and series. It was the first thing that got me interested in worlbuilding!
I dig the fantasy soldering iron
Incredible video as always
This is fantastic, im so interested in this you have no idea.
😱 new golden bones video 🤩
Great and inventive work!
i like how the runes are essentially code. if A, then B.
If I was an alchemist, absolutely NO ONE would be able to stop me from calling my vitae solution "Goop" or "Goomp". Put a fancy label on it with some nice calligraphy, looks super professional, oh what's it say on the label? GOOMP
This is so cool!
Amazing work as always!
Hey thank you so much - I'm a big fan of your work!
Very inspiring!
BABE WAKE UP NEW GOLD & BONE VIDEO
I love these video's so much! :D
GOLD AND BONE GOLD AND BONE GOLD AND BONE FUCK YES
Another banger video by the goat
omg engraving runes is literally just coding, down to having different languages! I love it!
Wow, the amount of cultural and economic thought behind Gold and Bone is astounding.
You often see magic systems where some material is in high demand, either due to being a very good conductor/source of magic (Gold/plants in G&B) or being a very good insulator against it (Lead in D&D). A lot of authors forget, however, that has a STRONG economic impact. People in G&B are probably much less likely to have ornamental jewelry made of gold, likely preferring Silver or Platinum, as Gold is even more precious than it is to us. Likewise, anything you see made explicitly of lead in official D&D modules is probably used to shield something from magic.
Economically, having plants bred and grown in bulk specifically to be used in vitae mixtures is both realistic and really good attention to detail. You always see wizards with these little plant pots of herbs they put into potions, but if you're making more than like... one potion, you're gonna need a hell of a lot more thyme Gandalf.
I also really like the fusion of magic and smithing, as the two rarely intersect beyond "I made this sword, now take it to someone else to be enchanted". I think _only_ gold being capable of storing magic lends itself to this as it's very soft and melts at a decently high temperature, making it fairly easy to work with even for someone who has no idea how goldsmithing works.
It also barely reacts with anything, including oxygen, and gold ore is generally native (chunks of) gold mixed with a small amount of (~4% by weight) silver - meaning it's pretty easy to extract and start working with right away. Just crush the ore, chemically separate the silver using something silver reacts with (such as boiling nitric acid o.o) and you're left with gold.
@@TheKd8lvtYou can easily cover something with gold, while not needing a lot of it, important for non-weapons
I’m so excited to see this world develop
GOLD AND BONE LETS GOOOOOOOOO
awesome stuff!
LORE! LORE! LORE!! LORE!!! 🌟🤩✨
i wanna read this book if it ever becomes a book
looks so cool argh
This is the kind of content i would definitely support on Patreon or something
Fantastic.
immense skill :O 👍
Let’s go
Ok, I love the scientific names
WOOP. Love it. Question: Do nonhuman Ornata occur? Like animals? What about plants, or trees?
There seems to be a tie of magic to sentience, so...? Edit: Scrolled! I know my answer :)
amazing
YIPPEE ART TIME
This is fantastic stuff! I love interesting magic systems!
I have an idea I think would be cool however I'm not 100% sure if it would work but it could be a cool reason for some exceptionally powerful tool/magic item. It starts with a king from long ago, he ruled a kingdom that would be in debt long after his death so he made a plan that could solve the issues of the kingdom after he dies. He himself was born an Ornata though kept hidden his entire life. He used large swathes of the kingdoms and his personal wealth to buy enough gold to create a solid object of gold (sword, wand, staff, whatever you think would make the most sense). Additionally he hires two close individuals (I was thinking twin brothers but it could be husband and wife or any variation of two extremely close individuals) that are alchemists, they are hired to carve runes (possibly in two different styles) trading the item back and forth taking turns spending entire days carving the most fine runes. One day one works on their runes while the other can focus on whatever they please and then they switch rolls planned to continue for multiple years instead of the ordinary week or so worth of work. After several years the item is covered in the runes head to toe, runes far more miniscule than ordinarily necessary on an object of solid gold. This would fulfill two of the three requirements of making an enchanted item to an extreme, lastly there is the Vita (forgive my spelling if this or anything else is wrong). This requires the addition of living matter melted within an acid which is then spread over the item to complete the enchanting process. Once only the Vita is required the king instead of requesting wealth for tax asks for Produce for every farmland in the kingdom, not all but what could be spared to go into the process of the Vita's creation, and the final addition to the Vita is the kings body itself. Whilst alive he allows his body to dissolve into the acid becoming the key living component to the Vita, he gambled his life on something he didn't particularly know would work but the Vita itself was likely the first to use a living sacrifice in it's creation and if not that the first living Ornata used within the creation of a Vita. The item was then finally imbued with the enchantment creating likely one of the most legendary or powerful items which if the kings intentions were followed would hopefully save the kingdom.
This is the first idea that came to my head when I heard that the stronger the 3 things (will/effort, Quality of resources, and Vita) were the better the item was. It's not really fully fleshed out but it would be interesting to see this concept taken to what you could envision with it with your adept story writing skills. Some things like how the king hid his Ornata status (perhaps the bottom of his feet is where the gold sprouted), the time period this takes place could be an interesting point as well though I envisioned it early on in the discovery of enchanting, and I think it is a bit overdone but you could have the King be sentient within the item itself magically bound for eternity potentially to advise the kingdom forever. And perhaps a better reason than debt for the creation of this item, maybe the kingdom was defeated in a war and vassalized by a tyrannical ruler and abused but with no true way to resist this item was the only hope to give someone enough power to free the kingdom. I'd like to hear how you see this happening in your world or if this is even possible. I got distracted by my own thinking so I could be entirely off base on thinking this item would at all be powerful or if the king making himself part of the Vita is even possible.
YES!
