Glinda in this song is trying to give Elphie a makeover to help her fit in and feel loved, but she realises that it's not necessary because Elphaba is already beautiful and always was, it's just that she didn't recognise it because she grew up so trapped in her own concept of beauty and popularity standards. That's what makes the love story between Glinda and Elphaba so much more compelling than Fiyero - Glinda broke through her filter over the world to realise what Elphaba was worth. This was used in my school's 5th grade talent show years ago. Students who auditioned wanted to perform the song (We might've went to see Wicked on a field trip before the talent show and that's why everyone was obsessed with it). To avoid annoying the audience, the teachers only allowed one group to use it: dancers!
