    Sat in the Renault Zoe with 52 kw battery this year. What a great car. And the Renault 4 and 5 look great. Renault really knows how to make stylish electric cars.

    Back in the 1970’s the old 4’s were all over Europe, cheap, practical and reliable...they were made in Algeria, Morocco, Slovenia, South America...all over the place..good to see Renault using their design legacy in the electric transition.

    The reason why camera mirrors are not allowed is because you don't have a 3d vision which results in not having a accurate perception of distances.
    Bigger wheels are being used because manufacturers are making ginormous cars and they will look silly with 15inch wheels. Also because they make the ride more comfortable

    What the majority of people want is something small. Not a colossus like this. Many people live in cities and don't have the space to use this monster.

    Smaller diameter tires need more revs for a given distance. So they last lesser than larger diameter tires. So money it´s at an equilibrium.

    Even with smaller tires, this is taller than many sort-of SUVs and crossovers. I like stepping up into a seat, stepping down going out, versus a low bucket you plop into and push up out of. MY RAV4 has spoiled me, with its easy in/out and super comfortable driver's seat.

    It looks a bit like a Tonia Toy, but I like it as it is. Looking forward to seeing it on the roads. It's not particularly small, by British standards, and will be very practical on our roads - minus some of those extra gimmicks. Electronic rear view mirrors sound promising, so long as they're reliable.

    "How can such a small battery pack give 250 miles of range?" I think the answer is that it's the larger battery pack that gives 250 miles and the 40 pack will give 150 to 180 miles.
    If you look at the semi circular join where the front wing joins the front grille area then it replicates the original shape and the rear window trapezoidal shape also apes the original.

    Of all the innovative practices that Tesla has brought to the auto market, building luxury first then use that oversized margins to fund lessor luxurious models & rolling down market increasing production capacity would be, I would think, one of the easiest and obvious ones.
    Many of the legacy ICE assembler-manufacturers have some luxury models, like that Hummer, just not in numbers sufficient to drive down the manufacturing cost.
    Obviously lower cost range EVs are very needed. tesla's strategy was to build from the highest range to the lower. They'll get there. Meanwhile none of the companies building EVs aimed at the affordable segment before establishing EV manufacturing cred are floundering.

    Renault has not sold a car in the US since the 1980s, when they paired with the now defunct AMC. They have never been a factor in the US. The Renault 5 was slightly successful, but only with heavy discounts and the Renault Alliance which they based their entire strategy on was a dismal failure. There is no one here, who has fond memories of the marque, the EV4 and EV5 will be a really tough sale here.

    Please stop the false wheel (rim) size statements. There is no significant connection between wheel size and vehicle efficiency. First, tyre diameter (something that actually matters) is determined by tyre profile not wheel rim size. Second, gearing (which is determined by the reduction gear and tyre circumference) is a vehicle design consideration and if the vehicle designers have done their job correctly the tyre size will have been selected based on the efficiency sweetspot of the motor and vehicle. Finally, expect an SUV with offroad usage in mind to have relatively large tyres - anyone who deals with undulating or rough and broken terrain knows the advantages of larger tyres (and ground clearance). It is easy to compensate for large tyres by increasing the reduction gear ratio.

    • @trashmail8
      @trashmail8 ปีที่แล้ว

      "On the Tesla Model S P100D, a 19-inch tire uses about 5% less energy than a 21-inch tire. For Tesla S 60D / 75D / 90D models, the difference is almost 12%. And on the Tesla Model X P100D, the difference is even greater: 20-inch tires provide a 23.3% reduction in energy consumption compared to 22-inch tires."
      toka.energy/en/blog/how-wheels-affect-electric-vehicle-range/
      But I guess it depends on general usage ( city/stop-and-go vs. continuous speed) and that there isn't a single answer:
      "Advice regarding wheel size is not as simple as saying that either larger-size or smaller-size wheels are best for every scenario. Both have advantages as well as disadvantages. For example, less power is needed to get a smaller wheel into motion. Therefore, in areas with stop-and-go traffic, it's best to have a smaller-size wheel. When in motion, the vehicle’s motor works harder to cover as much distance as a large wheel. This means larger wheels have more efficiency than smaller wheels when in motion."

    • @chris27gea58
      @chris27gea58 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trashmail8 If the vehicle engineers have done their job propertly they will have selected a reduction gear(s) and tyre diameter that after motor torque and vehicle weight are taken into account represents a sound basis for an efficient and responsive vehicle. In general, what matters in connection to wheels and tyres is a) weight and b) dimensions of the tyre (circumference being the most significant dimension because of its impact on gearing) and c) rubber compound of the tyre. Only comparisons based on definite measurements of significant factors, e.g. that include the weight of wheels and tyres and the exact diameter of the tyre (from which its circumference - which has an effect on gearing and is therefore highly significant - can be derived) as well as its rubber compound, can tell us anything of substance about efficiency. Wheel rim size information by itself is worthless because weight is the most significant thing about wheel rims and because without specific information on a tyre's dimensions we can't know the circumference of the rotating wheel and tyre mass, which after all is the thing that matters (because the tyres rather than the wheel rims meet the road surface).
      Even when we have relevant and complete measurements and data for vehicle efficiency comparisons the applicability of those measurements and data will still be limited - what we learn will primarily apply to vehicles of a certain type and weight with certain motor torque characteristics and having a certain reduction gear ratio.

    The problem with these European concepts is just that. The Renault 5 EV has been teased for well over 2 years now, I'm already bored. Same with VW and their ID2, no suprise the Asian companies are proving successful amongst buyers, they actually go ahead and produce the damn things.
    I'm in the market for my first EV, and the likes of MG, Hyundai and Kia actually have cars I can buy right now.

    Hello Sam and all; at the three minute and 47 second mark (3:47) you state that “get the vehicle with smaller wheels, stay away from the larger wheels because it will do nothing for range“… That is an absolute falsehood that you are saying!… because the larger the diameter wheel the farther the vehicle will go on one revolution of the axle! When I built my 2011 Chevrolet Cruz ECO with range from 840 to 1280 MILES (not km) on a single charge, I purposely put on larger wheels to give it a better ride, a cool stance and it helps lower the RPMs of the motor (versus going higher RPM’s at a set speed with smaller diameter tires) while going further / farther! If you continue to spread “miss information“ like this I’m going to have to unsubscribe and stop watching because I’m gonna think you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about and you will lose credibility! Of course you’re not the apple in my eye because despite me coming on here many times and asking you to check out my “ultra long range electric vehicle” that I made in a one car garage with no lift and very little heat enduring the New England winters you have still ignored/avoided reaching out to me so that you or one of your representatives can come and look at the car! Why is that??!!
