I've seen people make DIY home made recycle UHMWPE armour. And I've seen it work amazingly well. Then I've seen people BUY UHMWPE and try and make armour out of it and it failed at stopping even a pistol round. It appears to have a similar composition to damascus steel, not reaching it's melting point, and mixing it thoroughly together kneading it like dough, seems to be the key to stopping hard hitting rifle rounds. Because a straight up slab of UHMWPE from a factory won't stop anything. But hundreds of layers of cut up milk bottle half melted together stops 308's. It's really weird.

Couldn't you do a composite of both materials?

For shits and giggles, have you done a ballistics test on construction hard hats?

Boy are we glad you asked.
We have a construction hard hat in research and development right now. Going for a Type 2 - Glass G out of the gate. Class E will come a bit later.

There are a lot of UHMW-PE helmets that can be ordered from China. They costs around 110$-140$.
have you ever dealt with them? Is it trash?
    Sincerely from Ukraine.

At that price point, I wouldn't trust it. If something seems to good to be true, it likely is! UHMWPE is more expensive than Aramid by a wide margin.

Having worked in fiberglass , truck caps to cocktail trays.the process is very similar. Look up the fiber by yard. The price of the resin. The press tooling . A total money grubbing rip off! Could be made profitablely and sold for well under $100.

Tooling and machinery is definitely expensive, as are material costs. We also have about four days of work put into each helmet from start to finish.

As the guy who currently coats the kevlar with the resin, I can tell you you aren't making one of these helmets for under $100. Let alone a profit lol

Custom molds are insanely expensive, as is the tooling if you don't already have some. A company needs to make a profit and pay employees, so companies have to charge more during the initial production runs, especially if they're focused on quality, production runs will be low. The more that are produced, the cheaper they get. Military grade helmets are a niche market, not everyone needs one, although everyone should have one. They could offset these issues by producing better quality construction and motorcycle helmets and getting into those markets so they could sell a higher volume, but perhaps they wish to stick to defense equipment. As for good quality materials, you'll have $100 in material costs, you won't be making a profit, and you won't be paying employees.

The ATE Lite and Gen 3 is manufactured and assembled with Honeywell materials at our Texas Facility.
The Gen 2 is pressed overseas to provide a budget friendly option for our customers.

We can in certain situations. For single customer sales we generally recommend people make an order through Rainier Arms who is one of our dealers with international shipping capabilities. For anything over $10,000 we can handle ourselves if you email at info@hardheadveterans.com
