This video along with the comments below is enough to get anyone through this task. The goal is to gain knowledge and save money, and this post has certainly done that for me. Thank you to the poster and commenters, because sometimes we can learn better from our mistakes. Great job as a team on this post!

DO NOT DROP SARK PLUGS! DO NOT TURN THE WATER FIRST. YOU MUST TUCH ENGINE ON BUTTON AFTER ADDING OIL IN EACH CYLINDER. YOU MUST START THE ENGINE AFTER ADDING FUEL STIBILIZER.

This is how NOT to winterize your machine.

  • @FinestEmergencyLighting

Well like it was said before. The machine should NEVER be started with water running through it like that. It can and will severely damage your machine.

You did wrong thing at 00:55! Never supply water to the cooling water passage when the engine is not running!! The water could flow back through the muffler into the engine, causing severe engine damage!

Dont listen to this guy. Always turn engine on first then turn on water and turn you're water off first then stop the engine. I have worked for a powersports dealership for 14 years.

Seeing as how this video is from 2017, not sure if I'll get a response. Either way, couple quick questions. I know one of the main things is to get as much water out of the ski as possible. So just curious as to why you run the engine with water first? I also see you say to do the Sta-Bil first, but how much? On the back of the Sta-Bil, it says 1oz for Evey 2.5 gallons. I have an 18 gallon tank. Should I put 7oz in my tank? I feel that is too much. Thanks to anyone who responds.

Hi Nate. You are right the objective is to get the water out. However, if the ski was run in salt water a flush might be required. Turning on the engine before water is a must. The marine antifreeze step only applies in harsh cold climates and only small amounts should be inserted to avoid flooding the system since it could flood the block (bought a jet ski that someone put to much antifreeze in the engine without having it running and it rusted 5 valves in place). Engine fogging could probably be skipped if the period of inactivity is not to long. Adding to much fuel stabilizer should not harm the system. Removing water from hull is important also. The battery can be disconnected in the ski as well. Lubing parts such as steering and reverse bucket along with corrosion spray is also a good idea.

Thanks for the response! I had already had it flush from the last time I was out on salt water. Also I live in NJ, so it can get pretty cold here. In fact we've had a few nights below 30 so far, and I'm just now winterizing it. Either way, I followed the video and the comments. Started by putting in some Sta-Bil and filling the tank. I then ran water on it first, as they did in the video, after shutting water off I rev'd it a few times to get as much water out. I then ran RV anti-freeze through it (while it was running of course). The anti-freeze started coming out the back when about 3/4 of the gallon was gone, so I just finished the gallon. I then fogged the cylinders one-by-one, pressing the start button to cycle engine each time, and then removed the battery. I'm gonna spray things down with corrosion block next, and I'll be good to go I think. I will change oil and speak plugs before I ride in the summer. Thanks

Should have cycled the engine with fogging oil in while spark plugs were out

The gas in your fuel lines and fuel pump have no stabilizer in it. You must run the engine enough so the gas with stabilizer in it is all though your gas system.

Do no anti seize plugs. You will never need it. I work in a ski salvage yard, and never had a plug too seized to take out. You run more of a risk of shorting the plug

Yeah you did it backwards, Always start engine first, I am a noob with these and I knew that lol, All that water is going to run up into your water box and into your valves and rust them and they won't move and you will get piston slap

Wow just wow not to be rude but how long have you played with jet skis and decided to make a video about something you clearing don't know about. I don't need to explain the others below have done so.

You did more wrong things after 00:58, but at 2:41 you are adding regular stabilizer which in not harmful to the engine, but is not correct. You need to put stabilizer for MARINE engines!
And if you ask what's the big deal? I'll tell you two things: 1) Ethanol Treatment (Marine Stabilizers have factors to treat the Ethanol which can absorb water, leading to phase separation and potential engine damage. 2) Corrosion Protection: Marine fuel stabilizers may include components that offer enhanced protection against corrosion in marine engines, which are frequently exposed to the moisture and saltwater environment.

never put antifreeze in motor use rv antifreeze they dont have a water pump either this video is done all wrong it will keep it from freezing but the fuel system is not treated the antifreeze is harmful and when you add rv antifreeze to it have it running never put to much fog oil in cyl the squish in head is very small and could hydro lock it never put anti seeze on plugs could get into top end you should put fog oil into intake also to protect intake valves also should check the jet pump cone for water could hurt jet pump and there are a few more things done wrong
