Pearls of wisdom!
So nice lesson.Thank you very much.
Most of this, especially the better bits, directly lifted from Bill Evans' treatment of the tune, eg the B- F7 E- Bb7, is a staple method of his.
from spain...thank you!!! ;)
Definitivly you are a very good musician, teacher and PERSON! Thank again!!!!!!
I'm always learning from you Tony. Thank you!
Thank you Tony for great contents! It's very helpful!
Another great tutorial! Such a great jazz teacher. Keep coming back to your lessons. Appreciated.
Very accessible teaching. Love this tune.
Absolutely amazing. Can you please do more videos breaking down reharm rules like this one
I love it when you sing to these as well. Maybe you could do a video about singing and playing at the same time
Thats a great idea! I would for sure be watching that.
Thanks for posting the reharmonization rules and the lead sheet. I downloaded both and will keep the rules handy to apply when practicing.
Very inspiring! Coming from guitar, I love to listen to the ideas of trumpets, sax and piano. Thank you, greetings from west germany.
Wow buenísimo maestro

It comes directly from the Bill Evans version
😎✨✨ nice
Mr. Winston: May I ask that you do a lesson on the FANTASTIC improv in your trio performance? What great stuff. Hope I am not being a bother.
And thank you for making our improvisation learning a complete joy.
Tony, I'm a bit confused. You are using a tritone sub after the b-7 (F7) but you are playing the b minor without changing it to b dominant 7. Same with the Bb7 following the E-7. I thought you said that you shouldn't use a tritone sub after a minor chord. I know you said you change it in your head but why not just play the b-7 as a B7 and then F7? Same with the e-7 to Bb7. Thank you so much for all the help. It has been invaluable.
You could play B7. The melody note is D though and that gives you a #9 chord and if you want to keep it 'pretty' Bm7 is better. I don't think I said not to use a tritone sub after a minor chord. What I meant was the tritone is not technically a sub of a minor chord. the tritone sub only applies to dominant 7th chords
Great to read (and hear) your reharmonisation of this great tune. Thank you! ! Here is one more: in the fourth bar of B try Cm7/F7/.
Cool, thanks!
Thanks to TH-cam algorithm for letting me know about this awesome channel... Subscribed.
I love this song Tony (especially Tony Bennett’s version with Lady Gaga) and your arrangement. I think I’ve cracked it - thanks for the tips - it’s beautiful.
I agree, the Tony Bennet/Lady Gage recording is amazing. especially the key change going into the instrumental but I reckon TWs version is very cool too.
@@gaugeonesteam TW's is super cool 😎
@@leehayton He's a good teacher too. he de-mystifies things. I like that.
Thanks for listening
this video was incredible, I would love to see his arrangement for the song danny boy, grazie maestro!
I'll see what I can do...
That was great! would like to see what you would do with Jobim's "Wave" and/or "One Note Samba."
th-cam.com/video/rA1-5SvMM-g/w-d-xo.html
Wave was winstonized already
absolutely stunning tutorial
Paul McCartney used to like C to G minor as the first change. "Hey Bulldog" and "Queenie Eye" but I think there are more. Yes, as others have said.. You're singing is very cool. better with age even.
really? thanks!
@@TonyWinston Do check out the "Dudley Moore Trio" recordings. There's "piano playing gold" there.
What edition of the New Real Book are you using? My copy of the lead sheet doesn't look like yours.
Tony, is your reharm technology sheet available that was partly shown in the video?
thanks, i should have put that in the description. Here ya go: bit.ly/3tsUeIZ

Great vid but hard to follow for me. You need a program that shows each note your playing on screen. Most youtube pianists have them
Noted!
Hi Tony, two questions: you change the Bmin7 to B7 so you can play the F7 after that. You can change any II-7 to a V7 of the same root which is rule H, but the Bmin7 is not the II-7 right? The piece is in G major if I’m not mistaken? Why are you allowed to change the Bmin7 to B7? Second question: in the rule overview you say “V7 of II: G7 - Cm”. In what scenario is Cm the II? In D major right?
